  1. Alright so I made the purchase with some changes and I appreciate everyone's help CPU: Intel Core i5-13600K 3.5 GHz 14-Core Processor Motherboard: Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE AX ATX LGA1700 DDR5 Motherboard Memory: Kingston FURY Beast RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL40 Memory Storage: Kingston NV2 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive Storage: Kingston NV2 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive Video Card: Asus ROG STRIX GAMING OC V2 GeForce RTX 3080 10GB LHR 10 GB Video Card Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: Corsair RM850 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Total was roughly $2,700 I believe so it wasn't too bad over budget! Reusing my NH-D14, they're sending me the mount so it should arrive soon And also reusing the older drives for additional storage if they don't actually turn out to be dead hahaha @Dukesilver27- I see that the mobo Gigabyte Z690 GAMING X ATX LGA1700 Motherboard DDR5 has the ability to setup RAID. Now I've never done a RAID setup before and all I've really heard of in the past was that you should have a RAID controller bought separately depending on the configuration. Any tips would be amazing Thanks! Thanks!
  2. Hi Duke, That's a really great suggestion thanks! Yes I still have my receipts and invoices in email luckily so I'll definitely get in touch with Noctua. I've been out of the loop for so long but I heard Nvidia is releasing 4080 soon? I'm not in a big rush to "game" but I do need a PC so would it be advisable to wait and see what the new cards would be priced at and their availability before finally deciding to go with a 3080? Since that mobo can house multiple M.2 drives should I just buy another one and not reuse my old SSD since they do have "life spans" and mine is 10 years old. Cheers
  3. Built my first gaming pc back in Nov 2012 (I still remember all the feelings of excitement and anticipation) Sadly it has died on it's 10th year I turned it on, logged in, loaded up firefox, went down for dinner, came back and it was a white screen with "grid lines" and nothing was responsive. I tried to reboot, reset, system restore, reinstall windows locally and cloud and each time it would just either boot and get stuck on a black screen or it would boot, or lots of red lines on the screen, or go through all the typical windows things like "attempting to restore 56%" etc Therefore I'm thinking either my mobo is dead or my drive is faulty that's preventing me from even getting into windows itself (could be gpu... but I don't think so?) Budget: is roughly $2,500.00 Canadian (but prefer to spend only what I need) Usage: I mainly use it for gaming (used to play lots but haven't really had time lately), I also use it for work from home stuff but nothing heavy just typical emails, excels, vpns etc For gaming I would say I'm definitely a fan of the Witcher Series, Anno, Civilization, FarCry, Halo and a lot of other smaller indie titles like Hades and Ori Goal: Hoping to have a machine that'll last the years as I don't foresee another upgrade for a while and that I can still enjoy comfortable 1440p gaming at smooth frames. I normally just buy whatever is convenient all in one place instead of jumping to 50+ stores to get a deal and I suppose I do live near a Canada Computers. Here's a list of parts I have currently and maybe I can get some advice on what to salvage or just build a totally new machine (Maybe I can convert the remaining older parts into a home server or something haha) Any advice would be much appreciated especially with Black Friday Sales on now and the fact that I literally have no PC to use! Case: Corsair Carbide 500R CPU: Intel i5-3570k 3.4Ghz Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H ATX LGA1155 GPU: XFX Radeon HD 7970 3GB RAM: Patriot Viper 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600 Storage_1: Crucial M4 256GB SSD Storage_2: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB 7200RPM PSU: XFX Pro 750W 80+ Silver Semi Modular OS: Windows 10 Ultimate (Not sure I even have the keys anymore...) WiFi: Asus PCE-AC88 Monitor_1: Samsung Odyssey G7 27" 1440p 240Hz Monitor_2: Samsung BX2350 23" 1080p - This is just for keeping tabs on performance/chats Keyboard: Kingston HyperX Alloy Origins (Aqua Keys) Mouse: Logitech G303 Shroud Speakers: Logitech Z623 200W 2.1 Headphones: Corsair Virtuoso RGB 7.1
  4. Ah, that one seems amazing. Wonder if I can persuade the employee there to give me the online price since I need it today... lol I'll wait for a little longer for other possible suggestions before heading out to buy. UPDATE: Got the ASUS RT-N66U, hopefully this'll last longer than a year!
  5. Long story short, I woke up and found out my EA4500 router died. Well, at least that's what the conclusion was after phoning up Linksys for over an hour... So yeah I'll need a replacement router ASAP as I need to do work and I'm not about to travel all the way to school just to do it. I guess I'm willing to spend anywhere under $130 CAD since that's what my EA4500 cost. My preferred vendor is NCIX. Any immediate response would be greatly appreciated! Cheers! EDIT: I suppose I don't mind using another Linksys product, but I'm not familiar with routers at all so any suggestions would be great. (I'll get a $15 rebate from linksys as well, although not sure if it'll be worth it) Oh and the tech support person recommened that I buy their "new" Linksys EA6100 router. http://www.ncix.com/detail/linksys-ea6100-dual-band-ac1200-98-96826.htm Any good?
  6. Talking with the boss again and apparnetly the current servers have never had to be serviced and have been on 24/7 for the past 5+ years (not including cleaning or moving the servers). And so buying a pre-built server isn't totally necessicary. Which means if I did build it I'd need to learn how or help him find someone who knows how (eh probably pretty straight forward with some help from Google and these forums) :) Also would HDD's in raid for a server be more useful or SSD's in raid on a server? I suppose it depends on budget and useage eh? T_T Not even sure if RAID will be necessary since the approximate total size on each server doesn't even exceed 100GB per server. If anything maybe some kind of storage thing using multiple drives that utilize RAID that duplicates the data across all the drives? Also server OS is so extremely expensive and I'm not familiar with Linux...
  7. Ah windspeed I just finished editing my previous post lol Those specs are for the sever I'm currently with, the 1st one will probably be around the same hardware specs, not sure.
  8. I don't remember doing anythig on the server that activated this block on a single pc on the network. And I don't know how to login since I don't know any of the information needed; I even tried to click on forget password but it just glitches out and doesn't actually send it to my email.
  9. So I think it's called "Prosafe network management" and it is somehow blocking internet connection to one machine and requires that it sign into it before connecting online. T_T No idea what to do next.
  10. So yeah a bump for this topic and my concerns in the previous post above. EDIT: So I just did some digging and I found the hardware specs... oh lawd no lol OS: Microsoft SBS 03 32 bit SP2 CPU: Pentium 4 530 Prescott 3.00GHz RAM: 1GB total dual channel 200MHz DDR2 RAM meaning 512mbx2 slots? MOBO: Intel D915PBL (J2E1) HDD: A little confusing even for me... (didn't take it apart to look yet, too hard to open/close and reach for) Speccy says: 75GB 1x2 Raid 1 SCSI 75GB 1x2 Raid 1 SCSI No idea what the power supply is but I'm assuming it came with the case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129120 Antec Performance II SX1040BII Black Steel SOHO File Server Computer Case 400W SmartPower ATX12V including Pentium 4 SL400 Power Supply Ah, so a 400w Antec power supply. So yeah.... storage space doesn't get used up too much or at all, but redundancy is needed to prevent data loss. Building one myself would probably save quite a lot it's just that if it were to ever fail someone needs to maintain the server on both ends and I can't do it myself haha. Oh decisions....
  11. Our current servers are just tower style pcs but with "server" grade parts. There are no rackmounts or stuff like that. Might be able to reuse the case... not sure though, it's a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129120 Haven't looked inside for the specific parts but I'm guessing old stuff, possibly ide hard drives. The thing about storage is that 1tb would probably be more than enough. Would of just done a straight nas server or some kind of file server but we need the networking names, login accounts, permissions etc.
  12. Yeah I was leaning towards the pre-built style more especially from the warranty/on-site availability side of things. The current servers were built by a local pc builder that does business only clients so we do have deals with them, might just get them to do it again. I'm just not familiar with the parts or price points of servers. As for cloud storage of company data, I think they would rather have it on site all the time since there has to be a network setup with various levels of power and user names etc.
  13. So we have 2 servers at 2 different locations across the country and I'm looking at upgrading them. Both were built by the same company and they're currently quite old in terms of hardware and software (Windows SBS 2003)... :o shocking, I know. haha Anyways with coming time we're also upgrading out Quickbooks to the Enterprise solution and plan to use the servers to fully utilize QB's potential as a "access your qb data from anywhere" kind of thing. Thus the decision to finally upgrade the servers came as well. We use the server to manage the internal LAN network of computers, each having it's own names and to administer user names and permissions/powers that go along with any given account. eg. Admin, Accounting, Invoicing etc. Each pc also has different ips and power permissions on viewing data within the server etc. Other than that, we store all our data on each of the local PC's and then they always automatically back up important information into the server. If the sever were to crash or the hard drives fail, we would be in a pickle in terms of the LAN networking and to a degree the important business data. I know building a server "might" be cheaper than buying a premade + warrantied machine but I myself am am not too familiar with doing anything server related, just PCs. There's no way I could possibly do on site services for both servers when one decides to not cooperate so the building your own path doesn't seem too realistic. But anyways I would like advice on buying vs building. The budget would probably be around a max of $1,000 Canadian per server, even then I'm not sure if that must is needed, but it'll give good head room. Tips on what parts to buy or look for in a pre-built server, brands, services, places to buy etc. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies :D EDIT: So I just did some digging and I found the hardware specs... oh lawd no lol OS: Microsoft SBS 03 32 bit SP2 CPU: Pentium 4 530 Prescott 3.00GHz RAM: 1GB total dual channel 200MHz DDR2 RAM meaning 512mbx2 slots? 14. Any one else care to help? Or has experience with this? I'm not sure if reinstalling windows xp will solve the problem... but that's way too time consuming and will I'll use that as a last resort.
  15. Okay so it can ping things outside the LAN via CMD.
