HP ENVY 13-ab016nr: Decent Laptop?

Looking at above, need a good student laptop that will be able to run more intense lab programs and cad software, and from what I can tell in my limited experience and not having used it this looks like a good fit. Is this a good laptop for the price? Has anyone used it before and how did you like it? Any other suggestions? My price cap is 1000 but id like it around 600-800 -

I have a bit of a unique issue. I'm into alot of old 'garage band' (not the apple software, actual bands in garages) music from the days of cassette. I've seen cassette to usb devices, but after spending so much on the looks of my pc, id rather not have to have a cable hanging out of my case all of the time. Do yiu guys know of any front mounted solutions, maybe one that uses the optical drive bays?
