  1. Thats a good point. I would love 144hz since I play a lot of rainbow six and some overwatch. However 1440p would definately be nice too... How big of a difference do you think there is between 100hz and 144hz? edit: now realizing that the UW 1440p 100hz gsync monitors are ~200 more dollars than the 1080p 144hz.
  2. It doesnt stutter at 60hz so I've just been keeping it at that. I'm honestly not too 100% what the cause is at this point... If i turn freesync on, and set it to 75 hz it stutters and tears like crazy. Even dragging a file explorer window feels laggy. Im guessing it has something to do with freesync, since it has to be turned on to use 75hz. I used to have an AMD card with which it worked perfectly fine and did not stutter even though I had a 60hz monitor as a secondary. I guess using freesync/gsync takes care of any problems from using 2 different refresh rate monitors. Freesync turned on: Both Monitors @ 60 hz: no stutter Both Monitors @ 75 hz: Stutter (even when second monitor is set to match @75, and it stutters worse in my opinion when set to 60) Freesync turned off: Cant set the UW monitor to 75, Both monitors @60 hz: works fine. If i set secondary monitor to 75hz then it stutters a little bit, apparently only on the second monitor
  3. Craigslist may be a good idea; definitely something to think about. My only thing is I want to stay with a 34 inch ultrawide monitor, so it kinda looks like my choices are 1080p 144hz or 1440p 100hz (like your asus monitor) Are you able to easily keep 100 fps on ultra settings in all games with your UW 1440p? I have a 1080ti but I've read even that may struggle to keep 100 fps on ultra in all games, at least because ultrawide 1440p has ~30% more pixels than normal 1440p. I was thinking the 1080p 144hz one because I know for sure I can always have 144 fps at 1080p, and I've heard theres even a big difference between 100hz and 144hz. I dont think I really know what you mean by setting a custom resolution
  4. So I currently have a LG 34 inch ultrawide 2560x1080, 75hz freesync monitor. Only I have a nvidia card so I cant use free sync and for some reason whenever I turn it on (you have to in order to set the monitor to 75hz) and put the monitor in 75 hz, i get all this weird stuttering/tearing... I've tried everything to fix that issue, even buying a small 75hz monitor to replace my old 60hz one, thinking that the stuttering was from having 2 monitors with different refresh rates, but that didnt work either. Long story short I've been using my monitor at 60hz. Anyway, I was thinking of getting a new monitor; the same size and resolution but its 144hz, has G-Sync, and is slightly curved. It costs $657 on amazon, and my friend would buy my old monitor for about 200 bucks. I just wanted some second thoughts on this. I know going from 60hz/75hz to 144hz is going to be an insane difference. However, in your opinion is it worth $657 ($457 if you factor in my friend buying my old monitor) for just the refresh rate upgrade and G-sync? I guess maybe I just feel kinda weird buying a new monitor that is the same res and size... lol Sorry for the wall of text My current monitor: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAC4Z5204704&cm_re=LG_34UM68-P-_-24-025-344-_-Product Monitor I'm thinking of buying: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0728JH3RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ep_dp_oxbWBbJFC2DBV
  5. Hey! So a while ago I upgraded to an nvidia video card but I have a 75 hz freesync monitor as my main monitor. Obviously freesync wont actually work but if I have it turned on in the monitor's settings I can still run it at 75 hz (if i turn off freesync it only allows 60 hz). My secondary monitor is only 60 hz; and I figured out that having two monitors with different refresh rates can cause a weird lagginess/stuttery feel. When I have my main monitor at 75 hz with my second one at 60, everything is stuttery/laggy. I guess this wasn't an issue before I changed video cards because my old one was AMD so I was able to use freesync. When I think back, I can kind of remember that my secondary monitor sometimes felt stuttery but my main one was always smooth with freesync turned on so I never thought anything of it since I just use my secondary for discord, spotify, etc. So for a while after i changed cards I was just running my main monitor at 60 hz to keep the refresh rates the same and feeling smooth. However I just bought a (kinda cheap) 75 hz monitor to replace my secondary one, in the hopes that I could now set my main monitor back to 75 hz without having the weird choppy feel to it. I just set everything up and it feels almost just like it did before with different refresh rates. If i set them both to 75 hz, my main monitor is stuttery but the secondary one is smooth. If i set them both to 60 hz they are both perfectly fine. Not really sure what to do now haha. Idk if theres any way to fix this other than getting a gsync monitor (which I could possibly save for but It'd be a long time as I am a broke college student ) but if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate any help Thanks!
  6. If you haven't already, try setting resolution scale to 100%, it usually automatically sets it higher and majorly effects fps, for me at least.
  7. True. I guess its not that big of a difference; I just would prefer 75 if possible. For now I am actually running it at 60 though because my smaller second monitor is 60 and having two different refresh rate monitors makes everything feel choppy; even dragging a file explorer window around. I guess I didn't notice this before because I think freesync fixed this (at least on my main monitor) when I was able to use it on my old card. I plan on getting a 75hz monitor to replace my second one so then I'll have matching refresh rates. Also small update on the Doom thing: I changed the API setting in Doom from OpenGL to Vulkan and now I have much higher FPS (stays at 200 pretty consistently with some dips to 180 now and then) and higher GPU utilization... So that kind of fixed that I guess :).
  8. I've tried that already the tearing for some reason gets worse when I cap the FPS. When its higher it is much less noticeable but if I look closely I can still see it. It seems no matter what I do it doesn't fully go away. I also have to keep free sync turned on because if it is off than my monitor won't run at 75hz.
  9. Alright, thanks everyone
  10. Hey so I just upgraded my Video Card to a 1080ti (from a Radeon R9 290) a few days ago and I was wondering if anyone here could help with something. To start off here's my PC: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/KeanMorris/saved/#view=VGnJVn I have a 2560x1080 75 hz ultrawide monitor (freesync). I have my CPU at 3.8 ghz and my ram is running at 2933 (unstable at any higher and I don't really know how to mess with RAM settings..) I first noticed this issue when playing Overwatch on low settings. In the beginning my FPS was going straight to the cap of 300 but then I noticed it kind of fluctuated and went down a bit (going down to like 250, sometimes lower; including a couple times it went down to 180 for a little bit). I thought this was weird so I started watching the usage in HWMonitor only to find that my GPU's utilization was starting out at 99 percent and then going down to roughly 50-60 and then constantly changing to values in-between. The utilization also seem to go down if I started recording with OBS, which doesn't make much sense to me as even when I'm playing OW and recording my CPU usage is still only at like 40 percent. Then I set my graphics set all the way up to epic and it seems to run fine; it doesn't hit 300 FPS but the utilization seems to stay at 99 and I get around 250 FPS. However NOW I have (or I just noticed that I have) quite a bit of screen tearing that I can't seem to fix no matter what I do, and while it isn't unplayable, it is certainly annoying.... But back to the GPU utilization, the same exact thing seems to happen when I play Doom. GPU utilization stays around 50-60 percent all the time. Ill put a clip that I recorded at the end showing this. Some other games seem to be fine from what little bit I've played; Witcher 3 and Just Cause 3 on ultra run pretty similarly at around 90-120 FPS, and the GPU utilization stays at 97 percent. Googling around I've read some posts and things from people who have a similar problem but I never really saw a definitive solution... Anyway sorry for the gigantic novel of a post but I figured its best to provide as much info as possible. Also thanks in advance to anyone who helps, and here's the Doom video:
  11. Hahaha. Yeah I should definitely do that lol. Thanks man!
  12. True. I figured better to go for a better card rather than one with freesync.
  13. So I saved some money and got some for Christmas. I plan on getting a new Video Card since I just upgraded everything else recently. I currently have a Radeon R9 290, and my CPU is a Ryzen 1700x that I have overclocked to 3.8ghz. I have an ultrawide, 2560x1080, 75hz freesync monitor. I know it would be really overkill for a 1080p monitor but I had planned on buying a 1080ti if I had enough; which I currently don't but I will once I get my next paycheck. I currently have enough to buy just about anything else, a 1080, 1070ti. I wanted to know what you guys would recommend. I just would like to be able to run everything on ultra at nice and high FPS, and would like it to be somewhat future proof. I was also thinking that sometime in the near future I would save up for a VR headset, so I would like to be ready for that as well. Thank you guys and Merry Christmas!
  14. I'm given a choice of LLC 1-5, might lvl 2 be a better choice than 3? And wow I really appreciate the detailed answers man; really helps a lot, thank you! I'll try testing like that for sure. I was sort of just using Cinebench as a preliminary test; if it failed then I didn't even try Aida64. Should I stop doing that and just use Aida64? I've been using Ryzen Master just to monitor the temperature. What can I use to monitor the package temp? Okay I'll definitely look for that. Dude thank you so much, you're the best.
