  1. WOW, i was not expecting so many suggestions to switch from the 970 to the r9 390... but then again i am slightly biased ... so i didn't even look at radeon. I see the 390 has twice as much vram... but it has a slower clock speed; so wouldn't that make the 970 faster? sorry if this is a dumb question...
  2. Hey Guys, I have ordered a pc (based on the new LGA1151 platform) through ncix canada... but they said i have a couple days to change out parts if i'd like to. so to do my due diligence and ask if anyone has any suggestions for different parts that might be a better choice.... http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/g6KWQ7 Thanks to anyone who gives a suggestion!
  3. Thanks for the response Noob Builder. It is much appreciated!
  4. Hey Everybody, I am thinking of doing a computer upgrade in a sense. I have an old hp desktop from 2007 with an old q6600 processor in it. but i have done minor upgrades to it over the years. So i'd like to reuse some of the components if possible. this is the build (the power supply/ ssd/ and video card are from my existing pc) http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/9cWhwP Basically i am looking to see if the items I choose have potential compatibility issues i haven't thought of or if there are better components i should choose. Future of this desktop: I'd like the ability to bring it up to 16gb of ram and add a new video card probably something like a gtx970... not sli will i have any issues with my current power supply keeping up with this? Thanks for your help, and having a look at my Post, Jesse
  5. This guy made it work while having room for sli... but with very minimal room between the card and the h80i. https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/54653-silverstone-sugo-sg09-corsair-h80i/ If I did this would there be potential for problems if the rad came in contact with video card?
  6. And 6" Taller than the sg09 . The Only problem with a Big cpu cooler like that is that it will put a lot of stress on the board when I travel with the computer (As was pointed out to me by whatthe_fuzz ) ... I found another post on the forum showing how the case could be slightly modified to allow for the h80i and I think I might try it. I might upgrade the hardrive but like Woodenmarker says AutoCAD and Civil 3D files are generally small, so i doubt I'll manage to get through 1TB of space. Thanks for the Ideas!
  7. This is Terrific, I am planning on doing a build with one of these cases as well, Hopefully I can make the H80i work for myself as well. Great Post
  8. Looks like a really cool build... but the case is quite a bit bigger then the sg09 I am looking at (hard to find a dufflebag to carry the 350D) I might use some of the cheaper parts that you mention though in my build (hardrive, and memory) and I'll use the asus video card like you mention. I appreciate the help WoodenMarker
  9. Yes I am (I'm in Vancover, BC) , right now I am pricing everything through ncix.ca
  10. Do you have any cheaper parts to recommend? I am all for doing it cheaper... but at the same time I don't want to sacrifice quality or performance to much. Do you have a brand of 7970 that is better?
  11. Your Probably right, for now I will go with the H80i and hope I can make it work like you say... and worse comes to worse I am not putting in the second graphics card right now anyways. I updated my Build list, so if anyone has any futher input as far as what I might change or add let me know! Thanks to everyone!
  12. Thanks I appreciate the insight, I wasn't even thinking about the stress on the board! Have you ever heard of the SilverStone Tundra TD03 ... according to their website it works on the sugo. I looked into the h80i and it looks like it will fit but will cover up on of the pci-e ports in the process unfortunatly I didn't realize home premium had a limit on it... thank for making me aware; I will be looking at professional I think. Laptops unfortunatly are very expensive to get the good ones; and never seem to have the same capabilities of computers... I have one now but it is to slow for what I want.
  13. A Lot of mention to the power supply, any recommendations on a specific one I should get (it needs to stay under 160mm long to fit in the case and meet the needs of two cards in sli for my future proofing) Is there any type of ram you would recommend? the 840EVO seems to have similiar specs and be cheaper, thanks! why the 7970? I've typically worked with Nvidia in the past but I would consider Radeon if they are better? I was hoping someone would talk about the heatsink; I really have never dealt with anything like this one. I've never dealt with AIO before (it is an All-In-One liquid cooling solution right?) I've always been terrified of water cooling mainly because of maintenence and worrying about it breaking and getting on the board. If I was to go with an AIO which one would you suggest? I have looked at the Bitfenix Prodigy but it is quite a bit bigger? I was hoping for something small that I could put in a bag (sugo makes a bag for them) and carry around with a portable monitor? While on the thought of portable monitors, any thoughts on the Asus MB168 coming out? I would put it in my bag with the computer
  14. Hi Everybody, I know a bit about computers and hardware (I have worked on computers and Upgraded as needed); but I have never built one from scratch and after searching online (videos and forums) I have choosen some parts to build my computer. Some information of what I need this for: - I do some gaming but the biggest thing for me is I will be running my buisness from it (AutoCAD 3D and Civil 3D) generally I have lots of programs open at a time. (At this very moment while I write this I have 2 AutoCAD windows, Microsoft Excel, PDF Viewer, Skype, 2 Windows Explorers, and some webpages) -Also I need this to be somewhat portable; so I am able to go over to a friends with it and take it on the road when I need to, which is why I want to work with the sugo sg09 case (unless you have any better suggestions). So down to what my build consists of: Case - Silverstone SG09 mATX SFF Case Motherboard - ASUS Maximus VI Gene mATX LGA1150 Z87 Processor - Intel Core i7 4770K Unlocked Quad Core 3.5GHZ CPU Heatsink - Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H80I CPU Cooler System (I've never really dealt with big heatsinks before?) PSU - Silverstone Strider 850 Plus 850W Modular Power Supply PSU Cables - Silverstone PP05 Short Cable Set (was recommended for small cases to manage cables better) Video Card - Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 OC 1000MHZ 3.0GB 5.5GHZ GDDR5 (eventually I would like to put a second one in) Memory - Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB 2X8GB DDR3-1866 240PIN C9 DIMM 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit (eventually upgrade to 32gb) SSD - Samsung 840 Evo Series MZ-7TE250BW 250GB (for installing my main programs on) Hardrive - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA3 (for main storage) At this moment the Price sits at $1,759.85 I really appreciate any recommendations or advice you can give me, I want this to be a great computer so if you have any recommendations of better components, or things that might save me money is great. Thanks!
