  1. Do you think that either of these would pose any ram clearance issues?
  2. I am in the USA, looking on newegg or amazon.com
  3. I am building a Rackmount server out of an old computer and I realized that the previous cooler will not fit in the new case (it was a closed loop water cooler with a 120mm fan). I need to purchase a small air cooler to fit in this computer. It doesn't have to be fancy, there will be no overclocking. This computer will be powered on 24/7, and will be in a room that volume needs to be kept to a minimum. Budget is not an issue. CPU: i5 3570k (TDP 77W, Ivy bridge, LGA1155) Case: iStar D Storem D-400-7p 4U (look inside the case, there is a metal bar that runs across) MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V
  4. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0047AFZXG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I ended up picking one of these. It looks like the next step for me is to pick a cooler and find the Quad gigabit network card.
  5. Do the hot swap bay's impede airflow? how do they keep themselves cool?
  6. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811165215 or https://www.amazon.com/iStar-D-400-7P-Rackmount-Server-Chassis/dp/B0047AFZXG/ref=pd_lpo_147_tr_img_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=D53ZB77JGJ79QHZ6F0AT Would that work?
  7. For the case alone, i am willing to spend up to $150 USD.
  8. I do not have local computer stores available for this. I need to purchase a case online.
  9. I am working on converting my sister's college rig to a server to use as a media server. It will distribute 96KHz/24bit music files to several HiFi systems, as well as sonos and possibly HD video in the future. The parts that will be reused are: Intel i5 3570k, Asus P8Z77-V, G skill ram ddr3 (8gb), 120GB SSD, Antec H2O 620 (if it fits), Corsair cx430 (unless i need more power). I need to purchase a rack-mountable server case (AV Rack), with a max front rail to rear rail depth of 22" (excluding front handles and rear cables). I would like either a 3u or 4u case that will allow me to use as much hardware from my sisters rig as possible. I would like the ability to run up to 8x 3.5" HDDs, and 1 SSD (for OS). I would like to have Hot Swap bays (either added, or includedwith the case) available for all of my 8x 3.5" HDDs.. I will probably add a 4x Gigabit network card, extra ram (why not its cheap), WD or Seagate NAS Drives (for storage), and a raid card. I would like to keep the case price down as much as possible (So I can put the money towards HDD's). Any recommendations, this is my first server build.
  10. I think it is only the Edgeswitch lite in the 24Port variation that is fanless
  11. As in investigate further, to looks like the Ubiquiti and the Netgear GS724T both are fanless. I might buy all three, and return the two that don't fit my needs With my resent findings of fan-less rack mounted switches, I am not really interested in any option that is not rack mountable. I am not overly familiar with cisco, other than the fact that some products require a licesnse to use. (i am probably completely wrong about this. How would the Cisco products differ from the others i have mentioned. I did not realize that netgear had a lifetime warrenty
  12. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/networking-switches/product-detail.html?oid=6783404 Any experience with something like this? An enterprise grade fan-less switch. Maybe even buying last years model (though this one can be found for a reasonable price)
  13. Main reason I want a rack mounted switch is for organizational purposes. I am trying to keep everything in this rack as clean as possible. I think a rack mounted switch will help me attain this goal. Also, as my network grows (in my next location), I want the ease of adding a second switch as I grow, and having a method to keep it all clean.
  14. I guess I didn't realize that noise was a consideration. I say this because this switch will be in my home theater/hifi room. I would like a switch that would be silent/ very quiet.
  15. I am looking to purchase a simple 16-24 port network switch that is rack mountable to distribute internet, and aid in file sharing between all devices in my Home Theater rack. The task I ask is pretty simple. I will have a NAS Server in the rack to distribute high resolution audio throughout my house. The other function is to supply wired internet to each all of the media players and devices in the rack. I do not need POE. What would you do?
