Hello people,
As students from the University of Amsterdam we are going on a field trip for our Paleo-Ecology field work. During the fieldwork, as part of the research, we will be collecting data (numbers and names in spreadsheets). Since we split up in multiple groups with multiple laptops (and different operating systems and software) we need to merge all the data (and it is quite a lot) in one spreadsheet on a geographical location where there is no acces to the World Wide Web. Usually we would do, is to take a USB-stick and let it go around where everyone would add bit by bit their data to the excel/spread-sheet. This however has multiple issues related compatibility, speed (it is slow progress!!) and back-up system. Now, when we would have internet we would just go to some Google docs spreadsheet and everyone would add their data, but we can't since I haven't got internet.
Question 1: Am I asking this at the right place? is 'server' instead of 'software' page not beter within the LinusTechTips forum?
Question 2: Would it be possible to configure some computer as a server that runs a program that everyone could acces using their browser to submit their data to one spreadsheet?
Question 3: What software would be needed?
Question 4: Would be the minimal requirements for hardware (would a switch, with cabling and a computer suffice)?
Thanks in advance for comments, suggestions or questions.
