  1. Any help to clarify appreciated! Am planning to use diskpart access from the command line in my Rufus boot USB as a first step to clean and format my destination drive. Plan on using these commands clean create part pri active format fs=ntfs label = 512Windows quick 1st question> SInce this will be my Startup or C drive do I need to use a label? Next will reboot again into my Rufus USB to do a clean install of Windows 2nd question SInce I've already formatted the drive I assume I skip and formatting options and just install? Question 3 Knowing the above how do I configure my Rufus USB at the very beginning? Question 4 Is there any advantage in choosing the dual UEFI + Legacy option (alt+E) ? Question 5 If I choose UEFI nonCSM in Rufus, does this mean that I MUST have CSM disabled in my actual UEFI-BIOS? Question 6 Partitioning Scheme and Target System apply to the destination drive for the Windows install but the formatting options refer to the actual USB media and NOT the destination windows 10 drive. Are these assumptions correct? Thanks in advance!!
  2. Hi guys Decided I needed to do a clean format of my PC for a Windows Install. Last time I did this was when I built my PC over 5 years ago and obviously should have taken better notes! I have a dual boot setup with Disk 0 being my Linux install and Disk 1 at least WAS my Windows install. Running an AMD Megatrends BIOS. But I don't care about dual boot at this point. I simply need to get Windows up and running! WIll take you thru the steps sequentially to show you where I am at. First created bootable USB media using defaults with Rufus. And my first question Does Rufus by default create 2 bootable partitions on your USB, UEFI and non-UEFI? And my first error when I chose what I believe is the non-UEFI USB partition to boot from in my BIOS (see attached) To solve I followed the 2nd option and recreated my Rufus USB using MBR. Then when booting agqin I get errors 2 and 3. Have no idea what error 0x My goal is to simply do a clean install of Windows 10 on Disk 1. But so even if I have to install on Disks 2 or 3 thats ok as well! (error is saying the partition type is incorrect) Starting new job Monday and was actually hoping to do real work this weekend so ill be forever grateful for anyone that can walk me thru this!
  3. Surprised to find out my AMD CPU, ThreadRipper 1950x is NOT officially supported by Microsoft for Windows 11. But there are many posts and youtube videos suggesting workarounds such as My question is, is it worth it and if I proceed what types of issues may arise?
  4. Doing a complete reformat of my drive before I upgrade to Windows 11. Does it matter which method or utility I use or are they all the same?
  5. Maybe just being paranoid but.. A few days back made some simple edits in my BIOS, switching BUS lanes. But I seem to recall seeing something a little odd under history, last changes? The problem is I didn't take a photo and don't recall exactly where There were just a couple entries in a table or list with cryllic characters on the left and RAID on the right. Secure boot has always been enabled but no admin pw. I read something about rootkit attacks and am a bit concerned even though am always running antivirus 24/7 and haven't noticed anything suspicious at all in my system. When I enter BIOS again all I see under Last Changes are any edits I made. To be on the safe side should I do a complete drive reformat, fresh windows install? Re-flash my BIOS or? Is there some hidden log somewhere where ALL BIOS edits are saved? Any feedback appreciated!
  6. Can only afford to update one of two TitanV GPUs and was considering a A5000 (nVidia RTX series, formerly Quadro) But it seems they require two different drivers! Same version but definitely different drivers. Can I assume these 2 cards cannot work together? A5000 https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/199657/en-us/ Titan V https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/199662/en-us/
  7. Budget (including currency): Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Unreal cinematic, Houdini, Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): ROG Zenith Extreme 399 motherboard 1200W EVGA PSU Need more vRAM and was looking at the RTX3090 but I don’t think the size or 3 slot design would work with my motherboard. Am looking at the A5000 instead since it’s firm factor is exactly the same as the TitanV it would replace,
  8. Why 128GB? Simulation. For film effects. Think millions of particles with real time playback. cj09beira, thanks for posting. It seems like (G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 128GB (8 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2933 (PC4 23400) AMD X399 Desktop Memory Model F4-2933C16Q2128GTZRX is a contender! Just need to confirm it can actually reach 2933, the comments don't explicitly say that it does, only that it works. And got this from GSkill tech suppport "... Also need to determine what difference there is between Trident Z (F4-3200C14Q2-128GTZ) Trident Z RGB (F4-2933C14Q2-128GTZRX Flare X (for AMD) F4-2933C14Q2-128GFX \
  9. Have inherited a 8x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 2666 Mhz kit.Running the 1950X TR.Very minor issues on first boot. Linux drive not recognized on a dual boot systemMaybe something to do with CSM or FastBoot? Dunno, need to do more research! On default settings I am only getting 2133 MHz with this RAM and any attempt at OC using the EZTuning wizard results in no post. Can any memory experts suggest a reasonable top speed I can expect with this kit? ( with proper settings of course)And if I decide to purchase a new 128GB DIMM kit1- Is it possible to reach 3200Mhz with 128GB RAM?2- Any specific recommendations other than the preferred vendor list? I've heard good things about G.SKILL Flare X.https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232646&nm_mc=AFC-C8JunctionPosts like the following suggest its problematic getting 128GB RAM to work at ANY speed, hence my apprehension!https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?95601-Zenith-Extreme-1950x-and-128GB-RAM-Wont-postBut apparently AMD Ryzen does NOT offer memory dividers for either 3000Mhz or 3400Mhz. Perhaps that was the issue?https://youtu.be/sLm57m_bKb8?t=373Thanks in advance for any feedback and or recommendations!
  10. yeah got a bigger case(Enthoo Luxe). Now my radiator doesn't fit:(
  11. warning. Does NOT fit in Enthoo Luxe with motherboards having connectors at top(I have the Asus X99AII).
  12. Using air cooling for 2 GPUs. On linux so using NVIDIA X Server software to manually ramp GPU fan speeds when I render. It would be great if I could also ramp my case fan speeds at the same time.Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this? My parts list https://pcpartpicker.com/user/eco_bach/saved/d6Ff7P
  13. Last night was rendering fine after installing a 2nd GPU but I awoke to find my new PC build without any power. I normally shut down in evening but leave powered 'on'. ie can see LED's on my mobo, an ASAUS X99AII. Never experienced before and have been running fine for a year. As mentioned the one recent change is installation of a second GPU. Can any experienced hardware experts suggest troubleshooting steps? Here are some pictures on my google account https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOvSpKqNdpCOfMpV5HhUqkjoS_HFLt2qsIVgpadARIP1bKUselnDEjv7nNwW6-jjQ?key=OWZpWllDX2t5Q04xb2NtSW1vTW9jOTFKSmRVWWZR And parts list https://pcpartpicker.com/user/eco_bach/saved/d6Ff7P ok so opened case, hit reset button on mobo and pushed a couple power connectors and then switched power ..voila.. working again. But most troublesome to me is why this happened by itself overnight in the first place and if it will happen again.
  14. Hi Recently purchased 2 additional Nvidia GTX 1080 gpus to complement my existing GTX Titan XP gpu on an Asus X99-AII mobo. Thought I would have no issue installing 2 additional cards since there are 4 gpu slots and I thought I had plenty of room. However, when installing it seems that the last slot, furthest from the cpu, cannot be used because of lack of clearance with my PSU. Here are some pictures on my google account https://photos.google.com/share/AF1Q...9jOTFKSmRVWWZR You can see I am using the 3rd slot for a 2nd gpu. And this is my part list https://pcpartpicker.com/user/eco_bach/saved/d6Ff7P Before I return the 3rd GPU can anyone tell me if there might be a way I can accomplish this?
  15. Whats the status on this project? If ANYONE can create a tool with the same functionality as Afterburner, I would GLADLY pay for it!
