  1. So if I get a compatible Laptop motherboard it would work? How similar is laptop building to a regular desktop, would attaching the GPU,CPU,RAM and a monitor through hdmi and finding a compatible power supply cable and brick just work? Would the laptop motherboard use the hdmi screen or would it try to find its laptop screen like some sort of phantom pain. Am willing to make this a little hobby project so I'd be willing to invest a little money and time to designing a shell of the laptop, gpu and cpu coolers, maybe ordering some CNC parts from somewhere or 3D printing something. My uncle does own his own tattoo gun brand and has his own factory with a CNC machine maybe I could ask in a favour ;p.
  2. My fathers gaming laptop's motherboard died, its been sent in for fixing and confirmed that motherboard is dead and nothing can be done. Since I like to tinker and take things apart, I have done a bit of surgery and removed the CPU,GPU's,RAM and wifi module out of the dead laptop, along with other giblets. I would like to repurpose these parts for a desktop for my little brother if possible. I have already took the SSD and SSHD to use for my own desktop, the ssd was the same as my main C drive and I combined their forces for that sweet & speedy raid 0 . I also got a raspberry pi and an arduino, any ideas for cool projects?
  3. Also could someone explain to me why all the corsair dominators are almost the same price but have different speeds etc and if what I picked is good for gaming.
  4. Here is my current plan - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/tj2cbj The Asus Maximus VIII Impact only has a single USB 3.0 connection but manual says its two ? , my case will need two for the front but I will also need a internal USB connection for the CPU liquid cooler to use the corsair link. What am I supposed to do so that everything works :L Also any suggestions towards my build? PS - Its currently 4:09 in the morning and Iv not slept, am about to collapse. Sorry if I am not making sense, but Iv just been planing to build this PC for over a week now and its just stressing me out D: PPS (PSS?) - how many fans can I stick in there
  5. I have come into a quite a sum of money and have decided to invest it into my decent 3 year old Gaming PC to give it an extra punch, One Punch Man style. My Current Setup: Case NZXT PHANTOM WHITE GAMING CASE Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i5 Quad Core Processor i5-3570K (3.4GHz) 6MB Cache Motherboard ASUS® SABERTOOTH Z77: USB 3.0, SATA 6.0GB/s, THERMAL ARMOR Memory (RAM) 8GB KINGSTON HYPERX BEAST DUAL-DDR3 2400MHz X.M.P (2 x 4GB KIT) Graphics Card 3GB Powercolour AMD HD7950 System Drive Two 120GB INTEL® 520 SERIES SSD's in Raid 0 Power Supply CORSAIR 650W ENTHUSIAST SERIES™ TX650 V2-80 PLUS® BRONZE Processor Cooling Corsair H40 Hydro Series High Performance CPU Cooler Current build also has 3 other hard drives. The company that built this computer for me (pcspecialist) said that the maximum power required would be 390W (original build only had the one Intel SSD) I currently use a Dell 2209WAf 22" Monitor Budget: £1300 with an increase to £1500 being available after a month. I have a disposable income of £100 a month but as a student am unable to get a PC on a monthly basis :C At first I only wanted to get a GTX 1080, but then I said to myself that it would be a shame to be using a 1080 to only run a game on a 22" 1680x1050 old monitor that makes buzzing noises and Iv even caught it once producing sparks inside seen trough the ventilation holes.... so I started to browse for monitors, and Iv realized I know nothing about monitors :))) first look at 4k monitors but then I was reluctant because of the prices and the feeling of "do i really need this much pixels, I mean Im used to a 7 year old monitor...", 1440p monitors caught my eye and the idea of g-sync and 1ms response times, and I'm really unsure of choosing anything because monitors arnt really in my pool of tech knowledge )::: After some thought and getting myself hyped and with money burning in my pocket, I started to look at getting more ram and then a new processor, but the processor is a different chip-set so i need a new motherboard but then whats gonna happen with the PSU and now I don't know what to do now. The things I want from this upgrade: More FPS More Pixels on my screen in terms of PPI (pixels per inch) but not to many to hinder FPS in the future Bigger Screen Maybe more RAM? Maybe newer CPU? which leads into new Motherboard? Am pretty set for getting the GTX 1080 Also I live in Scotland What would you recommend I do? PS: Sorry for this being such a long post, and tell me if I missed any needed Information
