  1. So you're saying I can just get a D3 motherboard and be fine, but its better for me to just upgrade to DDR4-2800/3000. I will be gaming at 1080p btw, maybe 1440p if I can be assed to OC my monitor again.
  2. I'm going to pretend I understood that, can you simplify it for a idiot like me? as I have no idea what VCCIO/VCCS is or VDIMM, even IMC
  3. Yeah same here, really informative.
  4. Sadly both are underclocked to 1600mhz, my motherboard only supports up to 1866 anyway, I was only 15 when I made this rig and its very badly done, this is why I want to make sure I get it right this time, I already have a SSD and all that, and I don't really have a budget set out yet, but looking at what I want, its going to cost me about £1000, i7-6700K - £300 Z180-P/K - £110 Gtx 1070 - £400 DDR4 - £80
  5. So with a Gtx 1070, I7-6700K and 2133Mhz DDR4 RAM and a SSD, but only for booting, I should see no more frames than with 2333Mhz RAM,
  6. There is no issues, for a short time, but over long time it can harm the CPU, its not officially supported by Intel to use 1.65v
  7. The CPU uses its L1-3 Cache for access to storage but cache does not fit a lot, maybe like 8MB, well on mine anyway, and the RAM is used for larger things, Like if your trying to load in a 8K image which is like 100MB, your cache can't fit it, and its taken from your RAM, Correct me anyone if i'm wrong or off a bit.
  8. Not at 1.65V, on a Skylake motherboard sadly, I would have to underclock it, and I think I would rather just buy new faster RAM
  9. That's something I did not know I guess if i'm upgrading may as well do it right, and not half ass it.
  10. The part numbers for my RAM are KHX2400C11D3/4GX and 9905403-519.A00LF, means nothing to me but if it helps
  11. I have 2 sets of RAM currently one set 2x4GB is 2333Mhz and the other is 1600Mhz, maybe 1866 I never checked, Any idea how much I would have to downclock to make both stable at 1.35? Or even how to down clock, I assume its just as simple as changing it in the BIOS to a lower clock speed?
  12. Yes I do, just looked some stuff up about Skylake and its support, DDR4 memeory is 1.2v, while mine is 1.5-1.65V, So prolonged use will fry my CPU
  13. This is what I have been told, I'm just confused as why in the specs for the D3, it says DDR3 and not DDR3l? My ram does run at 1.5v, just like DDR3l, or do I need it to be 1.35V?
  14. As I thought, I just got confused by some things other people where saying, about Skylake not supporting DDR3? I'm more of a AMD guy, Don't know much about intel, thanks for the replies
  15. I'm looking to upgrade my PC, I'm looking for a nice performance for cost PC, and have most of the specs I want, however motherboard choices confuse me a bit, I am looking into a i7-6700k, and have 3 motherboards that I think I like, a Z170-P D3, Z170-K and Z170-P, On the specs of these it says that the Z170-P D3, uses DDR3 ram while the others use DDR4, as I already have 16GB of DDR3, would I get anything worth while upgrading to DDR4? Which would cost £20 more for a DDR4 motherboard and £60-80 for 16GB of more ram. Or should i stick with my DDR3, Clocked at 1600Mhz (I think), not like that matters much though.
