  1. everywhere seems out of stock when it comes to purchasing one. Stripping down the laptop isn't ideal, but i've done it before. It's just a bit stressful to do it, always that stress of making a mistake. I'll have a look in the bios menu, hopefully it's that simple. When it comes to booting into windows 8.1, i'll have a go, i thing when i upgraded to an ssd i just swapped out the old hd and popped it in an enclosure, perhaps it'll still run. Thanks alot for the help, i'll keep you posted on progress!
  2. Good day to you all, I had a test exam today to see if our hardware/software is working. When the software attempted to connect to my webcam, it didn't find any. It seems that updating from windows 8.1 to windows 10 has made my webcam not be detected at all. Even in device manager. Here is the list of things i've tried: 1. Bios Update 2. Checking microphone (part of same logic board to my knowledge) works fine 3. Dell Updater, updated all of dell's required junk 4. Running Diagnostics by mashing F12 at startup (nothing relative to the webcam was found) 5. Installing archaic software that fixed the issue for people with XPS 15's 6. Show hidden devices in device manager. (nothing to be found) This is quite an issue for me, i have 2 weeks till my first exams. I'm really out of idea's. I need this to work. The Laptop is a Inspiron 15 5558 and i've used the webcam in the past so don't doubt that it has worked. Thanks in advance. (Edit: So far i've had great help, had a look in the bios and the camera is indeed enabled which rules that out. I've also checked all the function keys, none have a webcam indicator on it and i've manually tested every single one without result)
  3. Good day to you all! I come to you with an interesting dilemma (in my eyes, might be very basic for seasoned tech veterans!) I built a "scrapyard wars" style pc. However find myself in the position where i have to share a monitor with other household users. I'm also in possession of a inspiron laptop. So my plan is to make it so i can use the hardware of the desktop in a cloud like fashion, so i can utilize it while on the other side of the house, on my Inspiron laptop. I know some services exist to help out, like via the steam engine. Unfortunately I don't use steam at all, i primarily use battle-net and I've heard that their games seem to not co-operate with cloud gaming software. As much as you could say "buy a cheap monitor" and be perfectly correct (that would be the path of least resistance). I'm up for the challenge and would like to try doing this as a cool little project to bang my head against for the following months. TLDR: Could i get some advice or pointers for me to be able to cloud/home server access my desktop to use its performance on a laptop elsewhere on the same network. Many thanks, and long life to all tech fanatics, one day we will rule the world !
  4. Reboot and reconfiguring the settings seemed to have worked... now onto the multitouch issues! Last issue to fix before i'm done
  5. Hi, I just completely dismantled my laptop, and rebuilt it. Upgrading the hard drive to ssd, repasting and cleaning. First time ever and I intend to post a few pictures and word of thanks to the LTT community and LTT staff for giving me the courage and knowledge to do so. Edit: Visual issue Solved!: However i have some software issues with my windows 8.1 refresh, most pressing of all is a visual bug in the apps/program tray. There is a very ennoying double visual of the apps/programs of which only one is functional. I went to grand master google, but ended up not finding anything for 2 hours. Any help would be nice. (also have an issue with multitouch which i think is in pen and touch setting (which i can't find), but that i'll tackle a bit later) I uploaded a photo of the issue, screenshots come out normal, one also uploaded. The apps/programs can still be selected and opened on one of the visuals. I've already searched for the drivers. This is the setup i have: The issue with the touch sensor not registering multitouch and gestures remains, and the settings seem to not be found anywhere... Dell inspiron 15 5558 (2015) core i7 5500 with intel integrated graphics 16 gb ddr3 1600mhz geforce mx 120 Samsung evo 860 500Gb O.S:Windows 8.1(x64) thank you
  6. thanks, really appreciate the answer =)
  7. Hi everyone, I'm buying a new phone very soon and found some good choices in great shops near me. One of the phones in question stands out to me. It's better than the others i've compaired it to in most ways. Except one: Wireless Connectivity. It seems to not have a. band wireless but does have b,g,n dualband wireless capabilities... Is this something that i should worry about? Is a. band wireless important/necissary? Thanks
  8. Goodevening all, i seem to have some issue that seems irritatingly hard to solve. i'm building a budget build and it's coming along nicely. Then came my issue. I have found a nice and cheap board: ASRock Z87 PRO3 and also a great processor: i5 4590s BUT: the Z87 series need at least a bios update to run 4th gen intel chips. Problem: my board was sold roughly around 11/11/2013 same year as 4th gen releases. With a bit of luck the bios would have been updated by Asrock before sale. With none, i'll have to update it myself. Not a problem.... BUT WAIT: i don't have a older compatible cpu on hand... so if this board doesn't have Bios flash integrated without needing a cpu, i'm screwed. So any information regarding this particular board (didn't notice a bios flash button or so) or if Asrock did the update themselves would be appreciated. Many thanks. Centinor TLDR: Asrock z87 pro3 sold in late 2013, do they have the bios updated for 4th gen intel cpu's? Does the Asrock z87 pro 3 have a Bios Flash integrated which doesn't need a cpu? P.S: doesn't look too promising seeing as asrocks z87 update page show's the update dated as 12/12/2013 (http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87 Pro3/?cat=Download&os=BIOS)
  9. The way i see it, if i go intel, i won't be able to overclock so a stock cooler should be fine. (+LESS WORK!) If I go amd and don't want a jet engine beside me, I'll need a better cooler for high intensity work and overclocking. Any chance you could ellaborate on which cpu's you mean Flavortown2k16?
  10. Hi, it's Centinor again, Firstly i'd like to thank the forums for the great responses to my post about belgian PC building. Lot's of helpful advice and great links! Finally i seemed to have gotten my build in shape! I managed to get a cheap 800W Modular PSU 2nd hand. GTX 950 seem to float around 120-100 euro mark on the second hand market. Now here is my issue. I seem to have issues in getting a proper cpu. Many of the ones i see are either really old intel ones, old amd ones or just junk ones. I would like to know what CPU's I should look out for which will bottleneck the 950's a minimum and won't break the bank. With the great deals i'm getting, i managed to keep my build around 360 euros! That is including a new case and the potential purchase of a 40 euro cooler. Anyway, thanks in advance
  11. I do light gaming along the lines of overwatch and Wow. But no higher than that. No witcher, Tomb raider, Battlefront for me. (no time) Also when it comes to budget, i would like to stay around the 600-700euro mark, but not much higher than 780euro's. Also Dual card setups don't really interest me. The only thing that i'd rather have is enough ram slots to maybe go up to 32 and the capacity to eventually swap out graphics card if i happen to find a bargin on a better one in a year or two's time. Wireless Network card will also be necissary seeing as i unfortunately got one of the rooms without wired internet in my student house so i'm stuck to wifi.
  12. well atm i'm doing all my univercity work on a laptop that has 5th Generation Intel Core i7-5500U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.00 GHz)] NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 920M 4GB DDR3 I'd need something with this kind of power, i would like to have a better graphics card. I'm not sure how mobile graphic cards hold up compaired to desktop versions, but to my understanding they should be better. And the main reason why i envisioned to go second hand is to potentially get higherend cards of an older generation for less then they go for new. Also just to cut costs.
  13. thanks alot for the speedy response! I live in belgium for others with great information. Also i do need a good card for my univercity work (mostly 3d mapping and layering), but seeing as i'm doing it on a laptop atm, i think any "highend" PC graphic card from the last 3 years should be good enough. Any recommendations?
  14. Hello Tech tips enthusiasts, Before i start, i would like to apologize for the grammatical or spelling errors i may make. (My english is out of practice.) On to the main topic! I often watch Linus' build video's, eager to start building myself. But in all his budget build, regular builds or yearly special builds, he has a tendency to have links to online retailers that are unavailable for us european weaklings! (e.g. Newegg) The few ones we have in common seem either pricier or just not clear for navigation. (yes Amazon, i'm looking at you) Even if one was not to go for new parts (budget buyers like in my case), the choices seem quite limiting. Craigslist exists but seems barren and devoid of any computer components in Belgium. So going for the Scrapyard method (big fan of that!) seems to be complicated. Anyway, the reason i'm making this post is to make a cry for help. I would like to know how european computer enthusiasts get their hardware and any tricks europeans have to get cheaper or second hand deals.(specifically online) Yours Sincerely, Centinor P.S: I might need some help with a build in the future, but at the moment i just want to know where the good places to look are... if they exist... Edit: Thanks alot for the speedy response! i really appreciate it! i'll update the orignal post with my country.
