  1. "I'm just saying what I heard, it's entirely possible that I'm very wrong. I personally wouldn't play games on a Pentium." there is a really good YouTube contributer and one of the overwelming themes off his channel is that games really only take advantageoff one or two cores. Check him out Www.YouTube.com/linustech
  2. Rufus is a windows based boot disk created.. it should give you the option of creating a Ubuntu boot disk.. Change your boot order... Boot drives have saved my butt a lot in the past
  3. Hey If you have a live OS usb start it up and see if your sound works then. That might tell you if it's software or hardware
  4. Yeah it's a 980 m. And the pentium is a dual core
  5. Hey guys looking to spend about a thousand dollars on a laptop after poking around the internet. I'm curious about this computer, https://m.newegg.com/products/9SIA8S15K14291 Eluktronics W650KK1 Gaming Laptop - Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual Core Desktop CPU Windows 10 Home 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 15.6” Full HD IPS Display 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive 8GB DDR4 RAm. For a gaming laptop is it better to skip the i7 with shower speed in favor of a fast Pentium... Also from what I can tell the1050 ti and the 980m are about the same speed... This is the list of competitive laptops https://m.newegg.com/ProductList?canPowerSearch=True&powerSearchParams={"CategoryId"%3A0%2C"StoreId"%3A0%2C"SubcategoryId"%3A3365}&%3FsubcategoryId=3365&nodeId=167732&storeType=2&NValue=100167732&GPU%2FVPU||NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti=||601285496||Power&GPU%2FVPU||NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M=||600536648||Power&sortField=PRICE My instinct is for more cores but nothing really takes advantage of extra cores in my workload.. Guys my thousand dollar investment is in your hands
  6. This Amazon affiliate thing has me very upset (yes I know this is old news. however I saw the video how we make money, and missed the video about being booted). If this is covered somewhere else please direct me I couldn't find it. This decision by Amazon hurts a small independent journalist that I consult before buying anything tech related, and it reeks of the groupthink mentality that has destroyed other amazing companies. Journalism the other branch of Government is dying right along side the newspapers and local TV stations. It is irresponsible for Amazon as a retailer to deprive it's own customers of the resources they need to make intelligent buying decisions, and it is a disturbing glimpse into a future that will be full of dependent journalists. OK I'll step off my soapbox. Anyway, this decision by Amazon stinks of middle-management and I would like to add my name to any petitions or be directed by the Linux Media Group to a contact area at Amazon. So that I (and hopefully many others) can voice our disappointment in a way that will make a positive impact.
