If you spend alot of time at desktop (surfing, word, spreadsheet etc) then a 1440p would be nice to have even if your GPU will struggle in games..
But the upscaling of 1080p is not very pretty..
I run the Dell U2713HM at work on a lenovo X220 laptop with nothing but intel HD graphics, works perfectly in desktop mode.
But dude, wait with monitors until g-sync is there with some competitive pricing..
At home on my gaming rig i still run 1080p monitors and am not gonna upgrade resolution anytime soon.
