So recently I've been having this issue on my laptop (RTX 2070 non max q) where no matter what game it is it will lock to 20 FPS after playing it for a bit. For some reason alt tabbing in and out of the game brings the FPS back to what it should be. I checked the temperatures and for both the CPU and GPU they are around 85C with no throttling. I am using dual channel memory and NVMe SSD if that helps. Laptop is ASUS GX502. Edit: Well alt tabbing doesn't work maybe it was just a coincidence.

Hi, I have an Asus GX502 RTX 2070 and since past 3-4 days the GPU seemed to be unable to draw power (that is my guess) and it never goes above 0.6 volts. I think it should be 1 volt. Once I switch to battery (on g-sync) the GPU goes to 1 volt and the clock speeds go to about 1200 MHz as compared to the locked 300 MHz on AC power. In fact, in overwatch I got 100 FPS on battery while only 50 on AC. Now today, I was just doing my work and I had this on AC power and the laptop turned off. I turned it on again and as soon as I logged in in windows, it turned off again. I unplugged the AC and now its fine. Currently I am using this on power delivery at about 45 Watts I think. I have tried using the GPU on PD and Battery and it still works. Is that GPU faulty that when it tries to go max performance it turns off or is the AC power adapter broken? I saw the temps and for CPU they are at around 74C for CPU and 86C for GPU. Thanks

I have been using my Surface Pro 6 since the release day and it has been great! The display is one of the best you can get in this form factor, the pen support is also up there with decent front and rear cameras for a laptop. The battery lasts me around 9 hours of school work involving mostly MS Word, coding and browsing. I keep a lot of stuff open in the background so maybe you can extend that to 10 - 12 hours if you only code while on battery saver. If you decide to get the surface, go for the Pro since the form factor is great and in case you wanna draw it helps a lot. Wait for the Microsoft event on 2nd October. My only issue with this is that its not that powerful and starts to get sluggish with too many things open. I guess it has to do with my model being an i5 with 8GB ram. 16GB ram should fix it and of course no type-C which we might get this year. Final thoughts, even though the surface is a great device, I'd say also checkout other options like HP, Lenovo or Dell at that price point.

I'll be getting my Zephyrus GX502 with 2070 (not max q) in around a week or so. If you can wait then I can tell you how it goes. Mine will be repasted btw.

GentechPC for Liquid Metal for Zephyrus GX502
Fr0st_P1xel replied to Fr0st_P1xel's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Got their reply back, they made changes to their website so there are glitches on it. The tax charges is one of them which should be fixed soon according to them. I'll be going with the Kryonaught since the cooling on it is already quite good and LM has its risk.- 6 replies

GentechPC for Liquid Metal for Zephyrus GX502
Fr0st_P1xel replied to Fr0st_P1xel's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
I have contacted HID regarding the sudden tax charges, will see what they say. Hmm, I do understand the issues of LM. The two previous LM laptops are being used by my brother and cousin and it’s been an year and they work fine so far. But yeah Kryonaut is definetly better according to the results. I’ll keep this open and post what HID have to say so that if someone is confused about this they’ll know too.- 6 replies

GentechPC for Liquid Metal for Zephyrus GX502
Fr0st_P1xel replied to Fr0st_P1xel's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
I will consider that for sure, specially if the temp difference is only 2-3C. On the other note, can I trust GentechPC with their application?- 6 replies

So I was going to order the Zephyrus GX502 with liquid metal repaste from HIDEvolution since I have had 2 previous purchases from them and those laptops work great. However they started charging for tax apparently unlike before where they didn’t do so. The tax is around $230 which is huge. Because of this I was considering GentechPC since they don’t charge tax but I don’t know how much I can trust them. Anyone with any experience with them or any opinions?

Going for Aero 15 2019, any suggestions?
Fr0st_P1xel replied to Fr0st_P1xel's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
So I looked at it and the price difference is a $100. I do have a PD power bank, and I don’t care about the webcam. So I guess that’s the better choice. Thanks for the suggestion. -

Going for Aero 15 2019, any suggestions?
Fr0st_P1xel posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hi, After waiting on the reviews for the Mag 15 by eluktronics, well they were not so great thermally as the GPU is temp limited at 74C I think (own or disown’s review). So I decided to go for the Gigabyte Aero 15 2019 240Hz 2070MQ. I will be getting it repasted from HIDEVOLUTION as I trust them (this will be the 4th purchase). For the same price are there any alternatives which might be better? Pretty sure there is no 144Hz variant in this one sadly. I need a thin and light with decent battery life and a 2070 at minimum since my workflow requires the power and VRAM. Thanks -
2070 Max Q vs 2070, Worth the $400 increase?
Fr0st_P1xel replied to Fr0st_P1xel's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Yeah I know, this is why I mentioned that I am going to wait for the reviews. I have around 2-3 weeks before I need to get one. -

How about this? Gigabyte Aero 15 2019 2070MQ with LM and I could maybe overclock it somewhat closer to 2070 N? Edit: I will also wait for more reviews on the Eluktronics MAG-15 if they are not as good I am going for the Aero. -

If thats the case, I guess I have to go for Scar 3 with 2070. That one has fine cooling right? I can handle the gamery flashiness if its for performance. -
2070 Max Q vs 2070, Worth the $400 increase?
Fr0st_P1xel replied to Fr0st_P1xel's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hmm, do you know the performance difference between a 2070MP and 2070MQ? I know a lot of people say the MQ is just the MP of the lower variant but even so compared to a 2060, it has more VRAM (which I need for blender) and more CUDA cores. If the difference is not huge I am fine with the 2019 Aero since the port selection is great and the battery life is also sufficient.
