  1. I can't seem to find much about performance benchmarking for VR regarding GPUs. I'm going with the R9 5900X but not sure which GPU is best to go with around the £600 mark. Ideally want to stay below if possible. I'm inclined to lean more towards AMD, as prices for those cards seem more reasonable for the performance in regular gaming compared to Nvidia. Just wondering if there's any VR related features that AMD or Nvidia have that give them an edge - VR is the main reason for upgrading VR games include: Blade & Sorcery (with mods) Beat Saber Regular games include: Hearthstone COD GTA 5 Garry's Mod
  2. I'm using a DP cable that I bought separately. I'll swap the cable and see how it goes. Will update if anything changes. Thanks
  3. The Problem My primary monitor (iiyama 27 inch 1440p/144Hz) randomly blacks out for 1-3 seconds. The other 2 monitors are unaffected I'm unable to spot a pattern, sometimes it happens when I'm just on the desktop, sometimes when working in a Blender scene. A quick google search suggested that I might be hitting the capability limit of my GPU but the problem happens across a whole range of iiyama's monitors? Once the GPU madness has settled I'm looking to upgrade but I would like to know if anyone else has any insight on a similar issue and the steps taken to resolve. If its more likely that it is the monitor, then I may hold off upgrading for a bit longer and get another 27 inch monitor, replacing one of the 21.5 inch ones and keeping the iiyama as a second monitor. Specs below, appreciate any and all information anyone can give on this topic. Thanks -Luithian The setup CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 Mobo: Asus A320M RAM: 1x HyperX 16GB 2666MHz DDR4 + 1x HyperX 4GB 2400MHz DDR4 GPU: GTX 1060 6GB Case: AvP Storm P28 PSU: Corsair 450W (I can't remember the exact one) Storage: 1TB SSD Samsung 860 Evo, 1TB HDD WD Blue 7200rpm Monitor 1: iiyama GB2760QSU-B1 (27 inch 1440p/144Hz) Monitor 2: LG 21.5 inch 1080p/60Hz Monitor 3: Hannspree 21.5 inch 1080p/60Hz
  4. I'm thinking that, but everything I've experienced so far points to the AMD Driver, I can swap my old 250w PSU back in but this would be a risk as the minimum PSU recommendation is 400w.
  5. True, but it was either this for £17.99 or another one for £9.99
  6. When it turns black, I have to manually restart it, but the application just freezes and I can't tab out, also my anti-virus is pretty good, and I've never had a virus.
  7. I've done this, multiple times, but to no avail. Some sites say that it is due to a faulty PSU, which is probably not the case as my PSU is brand new. EDIT: The RX 460 is relatively new, so it could take a while for bugs to be patched.
  8. EDIT: The issue has been solved: The issue was solved by going into AMD Global WattMan, and underclocking the GPU by 10%. All applications are now much more stable, but feel free to read about my frustration below. This topic is about my issues with my AMD Driver So.... I bought a Powercolor RX 460 2GB, all was well, it arrived, installed the GPU and the new PSU, installed the driver through Powercolor's website, and pressed play on Overwatch. I was blown away by the amazing performance, then it hit. Frequent, unpredictable, sporadic, varying crashes. These crashes don't just occur in Overwatch, but also in other titles aswell. All settings in the driver are set to not interfere with the application. Specs CPU - Core i3 4130 @ 3.4 GHz GPU - Powercolor RX 460 MOBO - Asus H81M-K PSU - CiT 400w ATX Power Supply RAM - 1x Corsair 1333mHz DDR3 4GB, 1x [Unknown Brand] 1600mHz DDR3 4GB downclocked to 1333. The 3 main types of crash so far Black Screen of DEATH The system will crash, both monitors go black and the PC restarts itself without displaying a Windows restarting screen Unresponsive application The application will freeze, but may sometimes still play sound, but only render as a black screen. Tabbing out varies as sometimes I can, sometimes I can't BSOD Only bluescreened once or twice, the BSOD features the error to do with "atikmdag.sys" All of these events and trials combined have lead me to believe that the issue lies with the AMD driver, version 16.8.2. 3dMark Sky Diver benchmark runs fine, with no crashes. I've tried using the TDR fix in the registries, both at 8 and 10, but still crashes occur. If you have any questions related to this topic, want to help, or are having the same issue, make yourself known! All help is appreciated Kind Regards, -Luithian
  9. R9 280? Also it's pounds (£).
  10. Forgot to add in the post that I don't trust buying second hand, whoops! Also £5 more on a PSU seems reasonable enough Thanks
  11. I'm thinking that, although the 750 ti was recently £80, but for the extra performance, I'd be willing to pay slightly more. Thanks
  12. Since my last post, the obvious choice was the GTX 950, which since then, has gone out of my price range. So here I am again, seeking help and guidance for a budget GPU, let's do this. The red corner: PowerColor Red Dragon AMD RX 460 2GB - £98.99 The green corner: MSI Geforce GTX 750 ti 2GB - £94.98 The other red corner, that makes no sense apart from saving money: MSI R7 360 OC 2GB - £83.99 I will also be spending an extra £8.99-£20 on a new PSU to accomodate it, as my current 250w has neither the power; or the connectors to supply the GPU. I am also not prepared to spend over £100 on the GPU, as the entire system itself originally cost £230. EDIT: Buying a second hand GPU is not an option, as where I live is pretty much a retirement village, and the second hand GPU market within 10 miles consists of GT 210s and GT 610s, with the odd HD 78XX, priced at around £150 mostly. Extra Info: CPU - Intel Core i3-4130 @ 3.4GHz RAM - 8GB (2x4GB) 1333MHz DDR3 (Replacing soonTM) (Also 4GB is 1600mhz, but I (borrowed) 4GB from my Gran because she has 32 bit windows.) HDD - 500 GB Sata ????RPM SSD - N/a MOBO - Asus H81M-k (Yes it was pre-built, don't judge, it was cheap as chips and the CPU is incredible, IMO) Anything/everything constructive is appreciated. Many Thanks -Luithian
  13. I will be upgrading my GPU soon. The use of the word "upgrading" is a slight understatement in that I don't technically have a GPU, Intel HD 4400 FTW! There are 3 contenders in the ring, and all 3 are viable candidates. In the Red Corner: The R7 360, currently priced at around £75 In the Green Corner: The GTX 750 ti, currently priced at around £98 In the other Green Corner: The GTX 950, currently priced at around £120 EDIT: The card will need to be powered by the PCI slot only, as my awful power supply has NO outputs for 6 pin connectors. The main reason for my post is for opinions on whether spending the extra money would be beneficial to me, and that Intel's graphics drivers are about as useful as a pile of horse $h!7. That and I kinda messed it up and I can't undo it. The upgrade has been a long time coming since I spent £230 for the system total, brand new then stole 4GB of 1333mhz RAM from my Gran's PC, since she doesn't need 8GB anyway. All useful opinions are appreciated, thanks -Luithian
