  1. Thanks! I already have the USB extension cables. I don't need to have a KVM for my server, it has IPMI I'm already using that (iKVM built in). Hoped I could use a pcie thunderbolt card but I only have USB-c gen 3.2 on my Gigabyte Aorus b550 elite v2. It's a shame. Maybe for my next build I will take that in consideration.
  2. Hi Guys, I recently got a 19"server rack wich will house my server and network gear. I also want my PC to be in there, one problem; Where my server has IPMI which I can use to manage the KVM part.. my pc doesn't have that. I don't want to spend loads of money on a kvm switch but I also don't want the cables to be very long. Any one idea's on relative cheap KVM extenders that cn be bought in Europe and has at least: 2x USB3 2x Displayport Thanks!
  3. Hey Guys, Hope y'all doing well! I have this truenas setup and everything did work great until the update But now I have problems with certain shares. I can mount the share, and see certain folders and files. but like 99% is missing. Client says: Looks empty, permissions are the same on all folders because I used recursive perms. On the server side: On the client side I can create new files and folders but those aren't shown on the server side. Whats wrong, more importantly.. how to fix this? Tried updating permissions and mount options but no luck Cheers, thanks Dennis
  4. Hi, to get more hardening, try to use a firewall like PFsense or sophos xg. Not sure why you should have 13 addresses, I only have one and I'm running 10+ services behind that one ip by using HAproxy.
  5. Hi Guys, I'm using portainer and I want to deploy portainer like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L80QDuix5RE The guys deploys a stack like: I want it like that but bind-mounted to a folder. I am running 2 dockerhosts in seperate LXC containers and those share the same mount /mnt/dockerhost. How can I do this? Thanks!
  6. Hi Guys, So I have a server running with a HP H240 HBA and there are 8 drives hooked up to it. I use the HBA to pass through my drives to a truenas box and it’s working great. According to the manual it says it allows up to 200 drives, but has room for 2 phsyical mini-sas connectors to 4 sata which allows 8 drives per HBA. How to get more drives attached? I need 16 drives to be hooked up. Can someone please help, thanks Cheers!
  7. Hi Guys, The problem I'd like to discuss with you is something I asked on the truenas forums. But over there the responsiveness isn't that great. Also the matters I have discussed here arre mostly resolved. I am running truenas 12.0 stable in a VM, passed through HBA and it's workign great. I also have pool which isn't passed through with HBA; so I did migrate all files over to the good pool. That part is done and okay. Now I wanted to get my jails over to the new pool. - iocage export <jail name> - copied all jails from images to new pool images - iocage import <filename> This works. but when I want to start one of the jails it gets: truenas [efault] stopped <jailname> due to vnet failure What does this even mean? I checked the settings; they are the same as the old jails. Any idea? Cheers, Dennis
  8. Thanks guys! Unfortunately it isn't possible but I still appreciate the explanations.
  9. Ah thats too bad! Is there any other solution that you know of? Those fans tend to get real loud sometimes
  10. Hi guys, I have a server chassis with 3 hotswap fans. Those fans are 4 pin pwm fans, which slides on a backplane that has a pwm header. That backplane gets powered by molex. So I am wondering if there is a female molex to pwm fan adapter? I like to keep the fans a little more low on noise sometimes I did find another post somewhere on the ltt forums that was referring to molex fans. But this isn't the same. Thanks!
  11. Heya guys, Hope everyone is still safe during this strange times! I seek guidance, can someone please help me? Currently I have running a proxmox server with dual xeon e5-2680v2, 256Gb ram and plenty of storage (plenty for me). I also have freenas running on that server and currently the disks are passed through directly by using “disk by-id” The disks are all connected to a HBA which isn’t something manageable like in enterprise servers. Everything is working well, but how do I change the disk by id to just passing through the PCI-e device? Because when I try to it just shows up no drives. What are the advantages of the pci-e device against loose disks? Is there any at all? Does it fix my smart values inside freenas Also… does it fix the hotplug function which my drive bays has? Lots of questions I know! But thanks in common! Cheers
  12. Thanks! What are the consequences for not being able to expand a raidz vdev?
  13. Hey guys, I have a freenas server with 2 pools. 1) 4-1TB drives raidz1 2) 2 normal striped for meh data. So pool one leaves me with 2.55TB of usable storage, its not enough and I Need more storage. I was thinking, will the following work: Replace 1 out of 4 drives with a 2TB drive, resilver then the second the same way... and so on. Until all 4 drives are swapped with 2TB. I know 2TB is small but these are 2.5inch drives with a maximum clearance on 10mm. So it kinds is blegh Will it work though? And is it possible to get rid of pool 2 and add more 2TB drives for pool 1? thanks guys! Cheers
  14. I completely forgot about this topic. Got it to work after I disabled S.M.A.R.T. inside of freenas. Freenas tries to check on the disk which are passed through, that means that the low level functionality still is in use by proxmox. Freenas can't grab the values because it's in use and freezes. Disabling the SMART service inside the freenas services panel was my ticket to get this working. No more freezes anymore *knocks on wood*
