  1. Update. I had searched this forum for awhile prior to posting. Best I could come up with was a Q code error that the motherboard eventually landed on - 23. Someone else in the forum experienced the same thing with an Asus motherboard and it was suggested they try reseating the ram. I tried that, not resolved. I have also now tried a new graphics card and reseating the ram. Still no peripherals working and the same error of 23 is present on the Q code display. Any and all help appreciated.
  2. Hi everyone, I think my graphics card is on its way out but there's something else throwing me for a loop. My current build - 9700K Asus Z390 ROG Maximus XI 32 GB Gskill Trident Z RGB Gigabyte Aorus Extreme 1080 TI EVGA G supernova 750W modular PS Various hard drives So I don't know what my bios version is but I updated it a few months back, it should be the most recent or almost recent version. One day I was gaming and the computer just froze, and shut down. When I tried to reboot, it would turn on for 1-2 seconds then turn itself off. Then repeat that process. I had previously water-cooled my GPU from the prior build, long story short I did have a leak during initial pressure test, it got wet, but I let dry for a week. That was 3 years ago and I haven't had an issue until now. Probably unrelated but worth mentioning. Anyway, after seeing it cycle on and off a few times, I turn it off and shut off the power supply as well. Let it sit for a week. Power it back on, same thing. So I remove the GPU, restart, it Posts and brings me to BIOS because I assume because I also cleared the CMOS. Boots fine, runs fine. Okay, figure I'll try with the GPU again, to confirm GPU is done. Re-install, everything runs perfectly. Two days go by, one full day of gaming, web surfing, etc., No issues. I usually restart my PC every few days, otherwise it's asleep. Come down to it this morning, wake it up, tower lights up, everything is good. Peripherals are all off. Power to monitors obviously good, but zero RGB on keyboard and mouse. No peripherals working at all. Restart the PC and now we're back to cycling itself on and off again. On occasion it will boot and seem to post but zero to peripherals. No power to keyboard and mouse and no display signal. My gut says GPU, which would explain no displays, but why would the keyboard and mouse not work either? They're plugged into the MoBo. I'm trying to read the codes that flash on the MoBo display but they flicker insanely quick that it's honestly hard to know what it's actually displaying. Any insight is appreciated. I'm debating about buying another GPU to test but I was already planning on upgrading come the next RTX release. So I'd rather not, but 5 years with one GPU is a win in my books. Thank you!
  3. Hey Everyone! So I recently picked up a PG279Q ROG Swift for my setup (coming from 1080p 60hz cap TV). Huge difference. Didn't make sense to upgrade sooner due to lack of space in my old apartment. Regardless, now I have this awesome monitor and I'm enjoying some solid 1440p gaming with moderate to high FPS depending on the title. There are some that seem to bring it down to a (admittedly still playable) 30-40hz. Which is still fine, but what's the point of having a monitor capable of 165hz if you can only push 40! Plus it makes me wonder as to how long my 970 will be able to perform as well as it does with newer/future titles. So here's the debate. Pick up a cheap 970 and Sli. Sell my 970 and pick up a 1070. Or sell my 970 and pick up something like a 980ti. I'd love to pick up a 1080, but the $900 + price tag is hard to swallow right now as I feel that much money might be better spent upgrading my processor/mobo in the next year or so. My plan was not to exceed $350 CAD, or $350 + $250 for selling my 970. My other concern is even running Sli on my existing Mobo. 3 PCI slots which are fairly close, and I need one for my WiFi card. Here's my build http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/yP2QZ8 Any and all input welcome.
  4. Yeah that's what I'm looking at now but I'm not 100% sure on another decent sub $50 heatsink. I'll figure that part out though. Thanks for the input guys... seems like an obvious change when I look at it now!
  5. I like that idea very well! I've tweaked it a little more to my personal preference (really want the Air 540/240). But now I can't find a cooler that will fit inside. Suggestions? For air cooled of course... I'm debating about a smaller water cooler now. 6. Hey everyone! I'm putting together a web browsing/gaming/mild video editing (GoPro only on occasion) PC and I'm starting on the cheaper side and planning to upgrade to a new system in the coming years. I also plan to do some mild overclocking. I wanted to get some opinions before I finally make the purchase. Any and all input is appreciated! I'm in Canada and my budget is $1300 before tax. I do not need a monitor as I'm going to be using my couch/tv. Hence the cheap wireless mouse/keyboard combo. I plan to upgrade eventually but they will do for the time being. I realize I can get a cheaper case but I've chosen this one by preference of style and that it will look half decent under my TV. Let me know what you guys think! 7. Hello LTT World... I will soon be purchasing my first PC build in a very long time. After long drawn out decision making on the build, I've got it all but figured out with a few exceptions. I've borrowed Linus' "about $2000" build (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jDXbYuNf_s) with some small modifications due to personal preference. What I've come to ask you all today is, if you were buying this exact build (please do not critique the build like other forums have in my quest for answers, it's not in the build section after all! There are a few personal preferences in there that I'm not willing to change), which monitor would you buy? I do a fair bit of uncompetitive gaming, the odd photoshop/video editing for fun with a GoPro, and that's it. I just can't decide if I'm better off with a strong 1440p Monitor now and waiting for higher quality 4K displays, or if this is the right time to jump into 4K. Here is the build - http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/dBbqWZ So the question is simple - what would you buy?
  8. Awesome! I can take a look at their website. I know the 780 isn't going to perform like the 980. So I guess maybe the 980 is the best way to go at the moment. Unless there's a 980ti/AMD solution before the New Year. Unless anyone else has a different perspective other than the SLI 970's.
  9. And that's what I was worried about. I tried to search for 970 SLI benchmarks on 4K. But this doesn't help me at all in 3 years time. Would you still choose a 980 over a 780 considering the price tag difference? Does the 980 justify the future proofing or am I okay with the 780. (Many questions that have open-ended answers, I know, sorry).
  10. Awesome, thanks for the input! So the general consensus so far seems to be SLI 970's or wait for a 980ti/AMD rebuttal.
  11. Never even considered this option! And 4K ready! Thank you!
  12. Can you recommend an Asus board? The big selling feature for me was onboard audio as well as wifi. I've never bothered to look at sound cards and prefer to have PCI slots saved for graphics cards instead of a wireless card. Anything you can recommend? I know this isn't the build planning section so thanks for your input!
  13. I forgot to mention that I do light video editing for personal use as well - hence the extra RAM and i7. 3 TB is what I need with regards to video editing I figured they would. That's why I'm not going to pull the trigger on anything until they inevitably come back with something else. I was leaning towards the AMD side before the 980. I prefer Asus and Corsair, I like the companies and their products. I know the ROG board is overkill but why not?
  14. Hey everyone! So I'm going to be building a new gaming PC just after the New Year and I'm trying to plan everything now. However I've had a hard time determining which graphics card I should go with. Let me explain my plan! I want to go with a solid 1440p build that will play games like BF4 and future games at a reasonable frame rate maxed out. My budget is $3500 CDN and this is the build I've put together so far (exception being the graphics card which is interchangeable for X). http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/hYZkqs Ideally, I'd like something that will allow me to upgrade to an SLI configuration in a few years to run 4K maxed out. But that's where I'm running into the problem. The new 980 seems to be the logical choice, but I'm not sure if it makes sense to spend the additional $300 over a 780 when I can almost SLI 780's today for almost the same price. I know that the new 980 uses new architecture and technology but is it really worth the price for future proofing? I've watched a lot of benchmark videos and read up on the stickies in this section of the forums but I'm still not sure. What do you think would be the best solution? Thanks in advance!!
