Hey everyone! Just making this post to ask for some advice regarding some new RAM I've installed. I'm making my wife a gaming computer so we can play stuff together, and I got her some new Ddr4 TridentZ RGB ram. 16gb of the stuff. In Bios, it's detected. But only 1 stick's RGB is functioning, as I'm installing windows. Is this something that will correct once installation is complete? Or is the RGB light bar on the DIMM faulty? The rest of the system is composed of a bunch of old parts and new. It's as follows: MSI B360M BAZOOKA LGA 1151 mobo (refurbished from newegg) Intel i7 8700k CPU (used from friend, but saw it working before we took it out of her pc) Evga supernova 650 watt psu (used from me. Working) Zotac gtx 1070 (used from me. Working) Patriot p210 2tb SSD (new) Samsung 980 pro 256 Gb nvme M.2 SSD (used from me. Working) Cooler master i71c RGB CPU cooler (new) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Pics attached.

Hey! I'm just posting this here to ask for some help and advice, since I might have a problem. So, full transparency, I was clicking on a spicy link in someone's link tree account, and all the smart lights hooked up in my home immediately blinked simultaneously. I tapped the link again to test, and it happened again. Have I just given someone access to my smart home environment? Introduces some kind of virus? Any idea what this could be? Hey everyone! I'm just trying to find out why I might have high latency. I just did a reformat of my PC, same hardware as before, and the latency in my online games now fluctuates randomly between 200 ms to 600 ms. It was nowhere near that before. Any idea what could be the cause?

One side question: Any idea what FPS monitoring program Linus is using in this video? it's visible at 5:50, top right corner. It's a nice, discrete, unobtrusive, yellow FPS counter, with other useful data like GPU/CPU utilization, 1% lows, etc.

I usually go with chrome. Should I switch back to Firefox? I used to use FF exclusively in the mid 10s, but switched to Chrome around 2017.

Yeah, I was thinking I'd just sift through his list and pick out the things I wanted. But speaking of fan control, I have a Fractal Meshify case that comes with an in-case fan controller board mounted in the top. I plugged it into my main CPU PWM fan header, and then I plugged most other fans into the controller. Is that good? Do I need to download some utility to control the fan controller?

Oops! I'll edit my original post. But I got the G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series 64GB (2x32GB) DIMMs https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_311&item_id=230349 I was unaware fan curve could be an issue like that! I thought I could just set it in bios without any issues. But Then again I have never played with those settings before now. And sure, I'll let you know if I find a good overlay. The one in LTT's recent $10,000 whale PC video is a good one, and I want to find its name. EDIT: Oh! And I'm reformatting because my PC is still currently running on an old Windows install on a 256GB Samsung 950 Evo Gonna reformat and install a new windows on the 1tb drive.

I don't, but I could get one. Do you think that would be fine, even with all the extensions and extra cords being daisy-chained? I know each additional cord connection adds some resistsnce/inefficiency. I bought a 16 ft active USB, so I'm hoping that'll be enough.

And any tips like how you have to manually tweak XMP settings in BIOS in order to unlock the overclocked RAM speed on the box your DIMMs came in (I just learned this recently thanks to one of LTT's recent vids), etc. I'm making a list so I can easily download it all/do it all in one go after the reformat is done. So, the issue is that I'm trying to get a USB extension cable to run from a PC, to a smaller 3-foot female-female extension cord connecting the exterior of my sound booth to the interior, which would be connected to a USB microphone that is inside my sound booth. The sound booth itself is about 5 metres away from my PC, so I know I'll need an active USB cable, but I'm still slightly confused on how they work, or what configuration I'll need to set up. I've read that I can extend a USB 3.1 signal up to 18 metres if it's powered, but only as long as the INITIAL cable is the powered cable, and as long as any cable after the powered one isn't longer than the powered cable. I then read that the length lowers to 15 metres total extension, if the active cord is not the initial cable, and/or if other daisy-chained cables are longer than the powered cable. Is this accurate? But from what end is this talking about? Which end of the line counts as the "initial" end? Would the end with my USB microphone be considered the "initial" end, that must start with the active cable? Or the end plugged into my pc? Any help would be extremely appreciated. Would my current configuration, with a planned active USB 3.1 cable from my pc to the sound booth, work? Or would I need to do something like replace the female-female usb extension cord connecting the interior and exterior walls of my sound booth with a powered version? Thank you!

Hey guys! Just wanted to ouch base here and get any suggestions for my issue. So I just upgraded to a ROG THOR P2 1000w PSU and a Gigabyte RTX 4090 OC, and I was just playing Cyberpunk with everything cranked to maximum. And I noticed that my case fans began to pump out an insane level of heat, and for a moment I noticed a brief burning-plastic smell. I immediately quit the game, and the heat and smell began dissipated almost immediately. But now I'm worried. I haven't yet checked the CPU or GPU temps while under load, but I'll get MSI afterburner and do so as soon as I'm done writing this initial post. Then I'll reply with an update. I don't think it's the 16 pin high power connector. I know that has been a big issue recently, but I put that in fully seated and everything. I'll double check it though.

I'm just wondering which of these two G.skill trident DDR5 RAM kits I should choose for my new pc build. 1. https://www.newegg.ca/g-skill-64gb/p/N82E16820374432 This first one has a clock speed of 6400 Mhz, and 64GB of capacity. 2. https://www.newegg.ca/g-skill-32gb/p/N82E16820374438 This second one has a higher clock speed of 7600 Mhz, but only 32GB of capacity. Basically, I'm wondering which I should care about more. Clock speed, or total RAM capacity. I know either is kind of overkill for my intended purpose, but I've always just had a dream of building a truly OP, overkill, completely unnecessarily phat gaming rig, and I can finally do so! So that's what I'm doing. Lol I'd really appreciate anyone's thoughts or advice on the matter!

Okay, that's good to know. I'd definitely like the use of more than 50% of my hard drives. So with Z2, that means 2 drives are reserved for parity and redundancy, right? So I could lose up to 2 drives, and those 2 would be enough to backup the rest? I'm assuming I'd have to put all 10 in the same raidz2 array, right? And will raidz2 always only use 2 drives for parity? What if I use 20 HDDs? Will raidz2 still only use 2 drives for parity? It doesn't seem possible that they'd be able to cover all 18 other drives in case of failure. And, hypothetically, what if I want 2 separate 6-drive raidz2 arrays? Will they then each take up 2 drives for parity?

Yeah? Okay, I'll look into it. Since I'm most likely going to be using TrueNAS, should I instead go with RAIDZ2? From what I've learned, it's exactly like Raid6, just without the drop in write speed. And how many drives will be taken up for parity if I use 10 drives? And yeah, I've been leaning towards a server rack. I've just never used one, so I'm mildly averse. It's new and scary! Lol I could easily make a songle rack mount under my desk for it, I suppose. Easy access, and definitely way better storage options. Do I need something like a server mobo for a rack? Is that a thing? Will they take normal desktop CPUs?
