  1. Hi there! I have a GTX 1050ti that's about 6 months old and it seems to have failed. I'm using a server and since I have a new GPU coming tomorrow I made a fresh install of windows that does not run in a virtual machine to run some tests. The windows install went fine, the graphics card was detected so I installed the driver. After installing the driver my system is failing. Windows attempts to boot, hangs on the loading screen and then my server reboots with the message "Alert! System fatal error during previous boot" looking at the logs I get "CPU 1 machine check error detected." and "CPU 2 machine check error detected.". I then tested both cpu's and memory and all tests passed. I decided to boot back into my hypervisor to see if the same thing would happen in a virtual machine. The hypervisor booted fine and the virtual machine with the GPU booted fine as well. However, there is a problem. 2D mode seems to work but when entering a game I can play fine for about 1 minute before both audio and video start to stutter. I checked the temps and they are rather low. Only about 50 degrees Celsius when they used to be around 80. CPU usage is around the same as before (20%). I reinstalled windows in the vm and used DDU to remove to drivers to no avail. I have no idea what happened here. Does this sound like a GPU failure or could something else be wrong?
  2. My main focus would be gaming. The system is an older Dell server that I use for homelab stuff that I also use for gaming so I wouldn't have to spend more money on a desktop. Electricity costs a lot over here and it would cost too much to have 2 power hungry systems around. Currently I'm using a 1050ti but it really struggles as it basically gets no decent airflow and it has to take care of in home streaming as well. CPU usage seems to be about 30% when the GPU is maxed out with the 1050ti.
  3. Hi! Just ordered a Gigabyte RX 5700 XT gaming oc and I'm worried about bottlenecks at the moment. Before I made the purchase I looked things up and it seemed like it would be fine but I'm kind of having doubts. I have 2 Xeon E5-2680v2's running at 2.8ghz (turbo 3.6ghz) for a total of 20 cores and 40 threads. I also have 128gb DDR3 ECC memory running at 1600mhz. Everything will probably be fine but the older hardware and slower memory worries me a bit. Would I be able to fully utilise the RX 5700 XT with this setup?
  4. Hi there! I'm looking to upgrade the GPU in my Dell R620 server with something more powerful. I was looking into getting an RX 5700 XT since it would work better with virtualisation as nvidia cards would throw error 43. I currently have a single slot 75W 1050ti that's starting to struggle. There are 2 problems with this though... The GPU will have to be mounted outside of the case and the 2x 1100W power supplies I have are practically worthless as the R620 has absolutely no pci power connectors on the board. I will have to externally power the GPU with a different power supply. I did some research and basically found 2 options: Using a mean well 250W power adaptor that uses a C6P connector for the output. (Link) Using a generic ATX power supply The problem with option 1 is that it's quite expensive and only provides about 250W which is relatively close to the 225W requirement for the RX 5700 XT. The problem with option 2 is that while it's cheap, I'm not sure I'm a fan of having to manually bridge 2 pins on the power supply as that could potentially be a fire hazard and I would like to keep things safe. Neither solution is perfect and I would prefer to go with the standard ATX power supply as it's much cheaper. But only if there was a way to safely turn the unit on without having to manually bridge 2 pins with a wire. Has anyone done something like this before that is willing to give some advice on how to proceed? Thanks!
  5. Hi! I just ordered a 1050ti that I'm planning on using in a Windows 10 VM running on an ESXI server. I'm going to be using it for steam in home streaming mostly and after reading a few posts online it seems like I need a screen connected to the GPU or Windows will not utilize the card at all. Is this at all true? I've wanted to get a HDMI dummy plug but I'd rather not waste money if it turns out to be unnecessary.
  6. Unfortunately, I just found out that the unused connector on the board is actually for backplane power. It can probably supply enough power but the connector is different. I'm hoping I can find some sort of adapter cable.
  7. Mine basically does everything, I got it running ESXI at the moment. It has pfsense, a synology nas, an ad domain controller (windows server 2016) and a windows 10 vm for development stuff running on it at the moment (this will be a gaming vm too with steam streaming). The card I wanted to get seems to draw roughly 230W according to a site I found, hopefully that'll be fine.
  8. I’m pretty sure it would work. The only thing I’m a little afraid of is burning out the board by pulling too much power from the 8 pin connector. According to the nvidia site, the founders edition 2070 uses about 180W with a single 8-pin power connector. The card I wanted to get uses rougly 230W with 1 8-pin and 1 6-pin. Is there a risk of burning it out or should it be fine?
  9. Hi there! I have a Dell R620 server equipped with 2 Xeon E5-2680v2's and 64 gigs of RAM and 2 1100W PSU's. I would like to add a graphics card to this thing for video editing/gaming and was planning on going with a GTX 1070 or RTX 2070. The cpu's should be powerful enough. I checked the insides of my R620 and it has 1 8-pin power connector unused. I have the 2 riser version, riser 1 has 1 x8 low profile half length slot and 1 x16 low profile half length slot. Riser 3 has 1 x16 low profile half length slot. The obvious problem is is that it's a 1U server so there is no way a gpu of this class would fit inside of the case. My idea was to mount the gpu outside of the case (securely ofc) and feed a pci-e extension cable from one of the x16 slots through the back to connect to the card. Then get a 8-pin to 8 + 6 pin power cable and hook that up as well. Is this at all a viable option? Has anyone ever tried this?
  10. Hi! I’m going to switch from pc gaming to console gaming as my gaming laptop is broken and my new laptop doesn’t run games all too well. I can’t decide which console I should get though, the PS4 pro or the Xbox One X. I am not going to play 4k on the console as I only have a 1080p tv, I’m getting one of these just for the better peformance (game I play the most is laggy one PS4 slim and Xbox One S). I just want something that can run games like friday the 13th and gta V + a few recent titles like ACO at max settings at higher than 30fps. I don’t care much about the ui or usability of the console. Since the PS4 pro is 150€ cheaper than the Xbox One X it really seems like a good deal but watching reviews showed me that the PS4 pro doesn’t perform all too wel. Can anyone help me decide by giving arguments on why I should pick a specific console?
  11. Hey guys! I'm having some issues with my Asus gaming laptop. It is connected to a tv to use as sort of a console, it has no battery and is connected to an outlet that can be turned on and off with a remote (bios configured to turn on after power loss). It's becoming increasingly harder to get it to power on, the lights will come on and the fan will start spinning before turning off again. I tried turning it on without RAM and a hard drive. It has just enough time to signal that theres no RAM in any of the slots before turning off again. The power supply is not dead as it does the same thing with just the battery in it. Sometimes it will make i through and boot up and work completely fine but 90% of the time it will just shut off before completing post. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Thanks!
  12. Hey Guys! I just recently bought a macbook pro after owning an asus laptop (I7-6700HQ, gtx960m 4gb) for about a year. I'm still using this laptop hooked up to my tv with steam in big picture mode (Internal display, speakers, wireless all disconnected). After gaming on this thing for a couple of months now, performance has started to decrease gradually to a point where I have to lower the settings on the few games I actually play up to a point where my macbook will often run games better than this system despite the fact that the radeon pro 560 should be worse than the 960m (but I can't really use my macbook since it's my main computer and I don't feel like hooking it up to the monitor since I often use it whilst gaming on the other system). I tore it apart and cleaned out the fan just in case but it really makes no difference. When I compare my system to a similar one mine always performs much worse than others for some reason. Since I really only play two games, that being GTA V and Friday The 13th + the occasional new game like the evil within 2 (Friday the 13th runs terribly on low settings @ 20fps and GTA V still runs pretty decent on high @ 40-50fps and the evil within 2 is just a nightmare: I've seen people with a 960m hit 30fps while I'm struggling with about 12fps on low!). I don't know what I should do with this thing. Should I try to fix it up, get a basic pc (which specs would you recommend?) or just get a console. If I was an actual gamer that played tons of games the choice wouldn't be too difficult to make but since I'm only really playing two games and for only about one hour each day, I don't feel like spending too much money on it. Can you guys give me some tips on what to do? Thanks!
  13. Hey! I just decided to downgrade my skylake gaming laptop from Windows 10 to Windows 7, everything seems to be working but my wireless (with dongle) xbox one controller does not work. The Problem: The official xbox one controller driver (XINPUT Compatible HID Device) for Windows 7 is UNSIGNED so Windows will install it, the controller will pair but it's completely unresponsive (Error 52: Windows cannot verify the digital signature). A Fix: A fix for this is to disable driver signature enforcement but here's the kicker: The games I play (Watch Dogs 2/Friday The 13th) use the "easy anti-cheat" launcher software which will throw an error saying "Driver signature enforcement is disabled" and the games refuse to start... Enabling driver signature enforcement will simply break the controller again... Does anyone know what I can do about this?
  14. Hi! I'm having a weird issue with one of my laptops where it thinks the CPU is extremely hot but I don't think it actually is. Laptop is using a I7-6700HQ. The idle temps of the laptop are around 40°C which I guess is normal but the temps for core 1 and core 3 sometimes randomly go up to 100°C for no reason at all. Using HWINFO64 I noticed that even at idle, the clock speeds and voltage are constantly jumping around near max all the time which is weird. I made sure Windows and the BIOS weren't the issue and proceeded to take apart the laptop to find that there was nothing wrong with the heatsink. Besides, cold air was blowing out the vent whereas I was used to it burning my hand when gaming. I'm starting to think it's not reading the temperature correctly, if it just misread the temperature there wouldn't be an issue but it's also throttling al the way down to 1.2Ghz which makes it almost unusable. Any ideas on what's wrong?
  15. Hi! Yesterday I sort of raged at my old laptop (the one I use for gaming) by hitting the keyboard and the entire screen glitched out and it also looks like that when you take out the ram on a running pc (I've done that on old broken laptops). I rebooted the laptop by holding the power button and it refused to turn on, I immediately tore it apart and reseated the RAM. It still wouldn't turn on. I checked both RAM slots and it seems like the laptop refuses to post when there is RAM in slot 1... (slot 2 still works fine and both sticks work in slot 2). I tore it apart completely and there is no apparent physical damage (it is al very well shielded on the bottom side of the board under the ram slots) and nothing seemed to be missing. Did I manage to kill one of the CPU's memory channels? Because it will only post if there is nothing inserted into slot 1.
