I am currently looking to upgrade my graphics card form a gtx 970 to a gtx 1080. However after some research I came across this video:
He clearly states that a good 980 ti(ex: 980 ti lighting from msi) is only about 3% slower than a stock 1080. So I look for more reviews of both cards and these two show the biggest issue clearly:

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_rog_strix_geforce_gtx_1080_review,20.html
Here there is a minimum of 20 fps difference between the two cards on the same game with same resolution. Other reviews mark similar differences( usually around 20 fps). Ex:

My question is if I can get a msi lighting for $500 or a asus strix gtx 1080 for $720, which one is the better buy?
