  1. Hmmm, how can I find about the connector? I guess it'd be more appropriate if I had asked at the Lenovo support huh? I can't expect people here to know about every damn laptop
  2. Greetings people! A friend of mine bought a screen for his laptop because his sister broke it, and this gave me an idea. Is it possible to upgrade an HD laptop screen to a Full HD one? I'm fairly certain that my laptop (Lenovo G50-80, i5-5200u, Intel HD 5500) comes with both screen resolutions. I happen to have the 1366x768 and was thinking whether I could buy a Full HD replacement and just change it. Your thoughts?
  3. I really don't know how to address this "issue", I'll try my best to explain and perhaps we'll come to a conclusion... I've an old PC and so I have an HD monitor (1366x768). It's a LG 19EN33 LED, I got it around 80 euro 3-4 years ago. A friend of mine has a LG 22M35 LED which is FHD, and I borrowed it because he doesn't use it. This one is old too, he got it ~110 euro couple of years ago. Both of these monitors are VGA and I plug them to my graphics card with a DVI adapter (no VGA there). When I first plugged in the FHD monitor, I was amazed by the resolution and all-around screen real estate. I used it a bit but when I scrolled in pages or watched movies, it's a bit blurry, fuzzy. My first reaction was that my graphics card can't power a FHD monitor (totally wrong but anyway) so I connected it to my laptop (Intel HD 5500) and again it's somewhat fuzzy in videos. Back to my desktop, I tried Minecraft to see what happens (I definitely cannot handle FHD resolution in games). Great movement in my HD monitor, fuzziness in the FHD. So, I'm leaning towards the FHD monitor being a total bust. I know it's a pretty basic FHD monitor but I didn't expect to be that much worse than my HD one. They're both of the same brand and they're both LED monitors. Could it be a monitor issue or do I need time to adjust myself to a bigger resolution?
  4. It's an HP 250 G3 with a Celeron CPU. I was under the impression that laptops are more picky than desktops when it comes to memory...
  5. I really need to upgrade the RAM in my father's laptop, 2GB doesn't cut it. I'm not sure if I got the specs right so I'd like your help to ensure compatibility. According to the attached screenshots, I need to get a 1600MHz (PC3-12800) stick with 9-9-9-24 and 1.35V. I have found two sticks, this one is 9-9-9-28 (I guess it will work?) and this one doesn't mention the last timing. Am I good to go? Have I overlooked something? I'm kind of out of the loop nowadays with hardware...
  6. Right now I have a 128GB Samsung EVO 850 as my main drive for my OS and programs. I took out the DVD drive and put the 500GB HDD as a secondary storage for, well storage and to keep my project files and application server, occasionally I'll download stuff or keep a movie to watch etc. I know SSDs nowadays don't crash and burn easily, many programmers use the same drive to code and it's heavily used for compiling all the time, redeploying apps etc. So I'm thinking of switching the HDD for an SSD for the obvious benefits. I believe two SSDs will have better behaviour to my battery and certainly will give off less heat. Besides, I'll probably get a 840 EVO from a friend of mine. I don't really want to use a single drive, mainly in case my OS crashes and I don't feel like losing everything. Thoughts?
  7. Well no freaking wonder my card was idling at 80 degrees Celsius. The thermal paste was rock solid and the heatsink had accumulated so much dust I could stuff a wee pillow! Now it sits at a cool 52 degrees and I'm happy
  8. Like what? I'm really out of the loop when it comes to hardware to be honest. I too think there's not much I can do with this system, it got me pretty well all these years.
  9. Given my current system; would it make a difference if I upgraded the GPU to a 1GB one? I don't play that many games and certainly not triple A ones, but I wouldn't mind bumping the graphics on the ones I do play. I got this system from a friend of mine and he had told me that the GPU is quite a good one (for its age) with GDDR5, and I don't plan on getting a new computer any time soon. I don't have a 1080p monitor, current one is 1366X768 and I'm happy for now. So, is getting a 1GB GPU a viable option or is it money down the drain?
  10. I get the same info with Afterburner. Well OK then, I'll change the paste and see what happens. Hadn't thought of that before. I don't game much and when I do it's not demanding titles, so I don't think it would get a lot higher. Especially since I play in 1366x768
  11. I checked with HW Monitor. The fan is definitely spinning (if it wasn't it would shutdown my system - happened to me a couple of years ago when I forgot to connect the cable lol) It says the Graphics speed is 250MHz and the Memory one 800MHz.
  12. Hey everyone. I finally thought of asking here simply because it's weird and I cannot seem to find a solution. In the attached image you will see my desktop. My graphics card is idling at 82 oC. I know it's high because the card is supposed to idle at around 40-50 oC or something. Right now, it's quite hot here (I live in Greece) any my room's ambient temperature is over 30 degrees. Even during the winter (room's temperature is 20-23 degrees) the card idles at 79-80 degrees. Obviously still quite high. I've never had any problems with the temperatures though, my system runs perfectly, the other temperatures seem fine... the thing that baffles me is why the card runs hot like this. Even if I dust the tower and clean it, still the same story. Any ideas?
