mb2k got a reaction from looney in How to: Install and setup FlexRAID on your windows storage system.
No worries about the recycle bin. Good thing about this being a software RAID I can start from scratch without worrying about losing any data. I got a feeling copy and pasting Terabytes of data would take quite a while. As I'm still in trial and error mode, I tried this:

Stopped the pool, assigned 1 drive a letter in Disk Mgmt, renamed the affected folders, removed the drive letter, double checked the pool in Drive Manager, then restarted the pool. All the BDs are now in 1 folder, and all the MKV's are in 1 folder. My music was already on 1 hard drive so no worries there. My plan is to do an update overnight and hopefully the parity info will have reflected the changes.

Next challenge: I ran into the issue of the default folders needed to be reconstructed, now I need to figure out how to (without copy/pasting) use my existing default folders as the ones the dashboard sees.

    Fun times... :D

I decided to build a home file server after completing my first gaming/workstation PC build. I enjoyed the process of building a computer too much that I just needed another project. I got sick of storing my media collection on external HDD's trying to keep track of where everything was and trying to have everything backed up across multiple drives.

I have this file server set up using a RAID 5 configuration using 5x3TB drives which gives me a total of 12TB usable storage space (10.8TB's formatted). The purpose of this server is to back up all the PC's in the house, as well serve as a single location for all my media so I don't have to keep track of everything across multiple PC's and external HDD's.

If you would like to check out my other build log it's named 'SilentCure' and is pinned under the 'Build logs of the week' section of 'Build logs'.

Any Q's please feel free to ask. Thanks for checking it out!

    RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600 Mhz
    RAID CARD: LSI 9271-8i
    SSD: Samsung 840 250gb

My main array consists of 6 3TB drives in RAID 6, so I end up with 12TB of actual useable space.

    Usage:
I use the storage for movies, series, pictures, music and important documents. I am also running Serviio as a media server
to stream my content all around the house. It is also for backing up my computers.

    Additional info:
The server is connected with a 2Gbps connection to a Netgear Switch.
