  1. In my opinion i would first reset the CMOS, by removing the battery, turning of the power supply waiting 5 seconds turning it on again wait 5 seconds then pop it back in.
  2. A dual node system would be great as I am looking to make an ssd nas for fast transfers during the day and then that information get's backed up to the hard drives over night either every day or every other day.
  3. Ok, I'll have a look. And I think that I am going to use an lsi raid controller to put the drives in RAID 0. I need about 10tb only in this server. But am looking to expand to having 20tb of useable storage as soon as I have tested and set up and am happy with the drives I chose, software etc. So could you guys recommend what capacity drives I should get and well how many of them.
  4. well that depends what games you want to play and what settings to be honest but probably a 1080ti and I would look at upgrading the CPU if you are going to take that route
  5. So I am going to build a gas in the very near future, I need it to be "fast and reliable". I do a lot of design work with lots of big files which I can't lose any of. I have been looking at this retired server that I found on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-ProLiant-4x-Xeon-Quad-Core-48GB-RAM-DL2000-G6-Blade-Node-Server-Rack-Server-/122549813689?hash=item1c8889c1b9:g:I5EAAOSwxBdZfyb~#viTabs_0 it doesn't come with the drive bays but I can source them from other locations. Admittedly the quantity of bays is overkill for my needs but it's nice to know the expansion is there is I need it. However something that made me reconsider this was the fact that they were 2.5 inch bays rather than 3.5 inch bays. I have been looking around and it seems that there aren't any good 2.5 inch has hard drives. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). I understand that the server I am looking at comes with 2 nodes. I look to replace their current processors with xeon x5650's and if I only need to use one node for then as then I am sure to make use of the other one for things like virtualisation, or as a router among other things (This server stuff interests me so I want to start my journey as it were). Any and all advise you may have is much appreciated.
  6. yeah no man i know for most use cases any old pc can be a good pfsense router. To be honest i would go for a quad or hex core older amd cpu over a pentium for a pfsense router and a basic home server nas
  7. Well i'm a software engineer and i need somewhere to store my data on this server and need to have quick access. My end goal is to get 10gigabit speeds across the network and then slow nightly or quaterly0 backups to my other server.
  8. what at 200mbps? And i want to play arround with different virtualization software and different raid's with different array's and stuff going up to 40tb and i want ecc ram because i have had a failiure in the past on a storage server that could have been prevented had i been using ecc registered ram
  9. I want my virtualization pc to run pfsense and also be able to run a basic nas server at the same time. I want it to be very upgradeable and cost isnt really a factor but the less i can spend the better.
  10. I am building a storage server soon to hold about 40TB of storage, I need ecc ram and would like it to be a good dedicated storage server. Also if you have any advice on RAID controllers that are 8 ports then that would be great, the hard drives i am using are the iron wolf pro 10tb drives with one extra for redundency. I am also looking to have an ssd cache but am still undecided whether to go m.2 and less storage capacity or pcie and less storage or the most storage but slower performance with sata interface (i know this is a rough description. There are more elements). If there are any good cheap rack mount server chassis that would also help.(2u-4u).
  11. Yeah sorry man i want 1440p or more in either a dual monitor or single ultrawide monitor setup. If its ultrawide i want it to be curved i dont need g sync but if it has it then thats a bonus.
  12. Fair enough thanks can u recommend any good ones around my price range?
  13. I am pairing it with a gtx 980 and i7 6850k system
  14. I have a £650 budget and want high resolution monitors in either a dual monitor configuration or one single ultrawide. What do you think is the best way to go. Should i go with 2x https://www.amazon.co.uk/AOC-inch-Monitor-Display-Q2781PQ/dp/B01GTOTV8C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1500471648&sr=8-2&keywords=27+inch+1440p+monitor or something similar or just one curved ultrawide monitor.
