  1. So, I currently own an Acer Nitro 5 from 2018, it's rocking an i5-8300H and a GTX 1050 inside. I made some personal upgrades due to my university course and personal needs. I upgraded the ram to 16 GB and changed the 1TB HDD to a 1TB SSD. Even though I upgraded a few things, there are still things I can no longer deal with. The first one being the puny battery life, and the second is thermal. Normal laptop usage in just writing in Microsoft word and just watching YouTube videos, this laptop barely last 4-5 hours. I always have to constantly deal with bringing a charger with the already heavy laptop, which both weighs around a total of 3.5 kg. The thermal on the other hand, I just took my laptop for a cleaning in a computer store as I lack the tools to do so myself. Even after the cleaning, while doing some light internet browsing and watching YouTube videos, its hottest core temperature is still 88 degrees Celsius. I wanna find a new laptop just for university work. I mainly code and deal with some somewhat large data sets. I use PyCharm, intelliJ, and R studio. I don't intend to game on this laptop and the main things I want in this laptop is for it to be light, have a longer battery life, and not thermal throttle. I was hoping you guys could recommend me a laptop that is around a thousand USD with what I mentioned. I'm currently looking at the Acer Swift 5 but I am wondering if there are any better offerings that you guys can recommend me such as 6 core Ryzen at this price point. I wanna remain optimistic for what I can find at this price point without going into XPS level. Hope you can help me out, thanks in advance.
  2. So I had a pair of speakers died out on me after 10 years of usage, they were the sonic gear Evo 5. I need a new pair of speakers that will sound decent for around 100 USD. I was looking at the sonic gear Evo 5 pro, but I wasn't sure if there are any better offerings out there since I'm still new with all these things in audiophile land. Do you guys have any recommendations that won't break the bank.
  3. I was thinking of just getting the iPhone 12 when it comes out. Always getting some sort of problems on the software side of android. The repair cost for the battery would just be shy of 25 USD.
  4. Currently contemplating whether I should just get a new phone. I am on my Huawei Mate 10 pro as of today. It was great when I first got it. However, a lot of problems are arising. The microphone works in other applications except for in calls and in discord. I was thinking that a hard reset would fix the problem, but I haven't gotten to it since I had a lot of things to back up. Asides from that, the battery is not as great as it used to be and the device does not last as long anymore, as well as the fact that the battery is bulging so much that it is pushing my screen out. Should I just get a new phone altogether or should I just hard reset it and get a new battery.
  5. So I just did a new fresh install on my laptop SSD. I replaced the whole HDD with an SSD and I believe I had already updated my sound drivers to the latest version. However, the laptop won't recognise the speakers in my secondary monitor when I connect it via HDMI. I tried rebooting, unplugging and plugging back in and don't know what else to do.
  6. Sorry for the spam, but I just installed a fresh copy of windows 10 on my laptop which is an Acer Nitro 5, I went to the product page to download some stuffs that I needed. However, I was bombarded with quite a few drivers and BiOS/ firmware downloads on the page and was not sure what to install. For anyone that is curious, this is the page https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/7605?b=1&pn=NH.Q3RAA.002
  7. So I just changed the HDD in my system with an SSD. I did a clean windows install and I currently am installing all my programs. However, I wanted to do some light browsing while downloading all of my things like all my files that I backed up on google drive, pycharm, IDLE, Anaconda, some games, and etc. but the thing is that my laptop seems to prioritizes those downloads and therefore making it impossible for me to use anything else that requires an internet connection. Is there any way to fix this?
  8. Alright, thanks for the help. Saved me a lot of trouble
  9. Thank you, I assume that link also works for laptops right? Thanks for the help
  10. So I just got my new SSD, and I want to completely replace my hard drive with it inside my laptop. I know i need to back up all of my important stuff onto some other external storage. However, the thing that I am facing problem with is how do I go around downloading the operating system onto the SSD for the very first time. I know I need to download the file from the Microsoft website and put it into a pen drive. However, where do I go from there, I also don't want to lose the free utilities that Acer has provided like the free video editing software as well as the "Nitro" program which lets me to adjust my fan speed. Is there a way I can get the whole operating system with these apps like I first did when I got the laptop for the very first time. Also, is there anything else that I need to know before getting into this, or am I just better off bringing this to a computer shop to get it settled.
  11. Thank you so much for the help, I have been trying to surf the web to find the same scenario as mine and your really helped me. Thanks
  12. So I want to replace the old seagate 5400rpm HDD with an Adata SU630 960 GB SSD. The thing is, I am not much of a tech wizard and was wondering how do I go around doing this as the HDD is the only drive in my system. How do I reinstall the OS, and do I need to pay for a new windows 10 key. Also, side question, Is the SSD that I chose reliable for everyday use? Just using it for some programming with Jupyter notebook, pycharm, and IDLE as well as some gaming from time to time.
  13. Any recommendations for those two things you recommended?
  14. Yeah, need it for WiFi. 4250 square feet house. Not too sure about standards, never gotten too into this stuff. Not really looking for any other feature since I'm just an average user. Just need a recommendation for something that's not too fancy and doesn't break the bank
  15. I need a recommendation for a somewhat decently priced router that can saturate the 300 Mbps download I have. Current router I have barely gives me 30-50 Mbps. Any choices that won't break the bank?
  16. I'll give it a try and see if that fixes the problem, it's really random for me.
  17. Not really. Most laptops if not all have custom sizes, so it's almost impossible to find a different motherboard for your laptop.
  18. So it's been less than 6 months since I got my Huawei mate 10 pro. It's brand new, but I've noticed something recently that kinda annoys me. It's battery is draining randomly and it gets a little warm and toasty when I'm not using it. I used to be able to use this for a full day with 40±% when I'm done with the day but it's barely getting me throughout the day now. I turned off Google location and the issue is still there. Is there anything I can do or should I just back up my important data and just reset the phone?
  19. So, I bought a nitro 5 some time ago around a month ago, and only started playing games on it recently as I've got some free time. I tried to charge it and play assassin's creed unity at the same time, but it won't. It'll only start charging once I close the game. Anyway I can fix this, or is there nothing I can do at all?
  20. currently planning on building one and need something that would fit an ATX motherboard as well as a hyper 212 evo and a 2060
  21. I kinda need a new suggestion for a case. I want a case that doesn't break the bank but also one that would make cable management a little bit easier. I mainly care about functions like how many drives it can fit and fans as well. I decided to turn to the community because there were too many choices. Aesthetics is a bonus, but just not as prioritized. I want something maybe below 100 dollars if possible
  22. Thats my main problem here, i have 8 gigabytes worth of ram but 4gb of it is already being consumed by background processes. I have seen videos where they say to just uninstall everything that came with it.
  23. So, i bought the nitro 5, the i5 variant with the 1050(non ti) variant about less than 2 weeks ago. I have installed my gpu driver and microsoft office. I noticed that there are a lot of background processes as well as window processes, should i shut them all down? cuz there are some background apps like windows defender that eats up my memory and other which accumulate to large amount.
