  1. Black screen followed by reboot after changing resolution in any game. - TL;DR: "Faulty" component: MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X (purchased an year ago but barely used) Whenever changing resolution in Full screen games the screen goes black and the computer reboots. In games that were previously configured in fullscreen, the same thing happens as soon as I land in the menu screen. - List of things I've already tried to try to fix it: • Running games over a different external drive. • Running games over the internal drive. • Reinstalling the NVIDIA drivers(latest version and older versions from before the problem started) • Clean installation of the drivers using DDU • Clean installation of Windows 10 Pro 64bits • Changing to a display of different resolution. • Removing the internal drive and using a different drive with a completely separate installation of Windows that is proved to be(and currently is) working on my other computer. • Clean installing the drivers on the aforementioned working drive using DDU. *I also did a test using only the integrated GPU and that did not show any problems, therefore the issue is most likely with my dedicated GPU. - Full story: Maybe one or two weeks ago I started having a problem with my PC, sometimes when I would turn it on it wouldn't show anything on the monitor after getting through the boot screen. It didn't happen frequently and I wasn't having other problems so I ignored it for a bit since pressing the reset button would "fix" the issue. So one of these days, as I was playing Warframe, the game froze and soon after my computer rebooted. As I'm quite familiar with the game I know it isn't the most stable out there hek it crashes on startup 100% of the time if I have MSI AfterBurner running... Therefore I dismissed it as myself forgetting to close AfterBurner or the game just bugging out. In the following days the issue started to worsen a lot, sometimes I'd play for hours and it wouldn't crash and sometimes it would crash on my first session. Anyways, I was just thinking it was a "bad patch" or something until I tried to play Dishonored 2... Again, not the staple for "great PC port" but I had tested it before and it ran like a charm. But this time when starting the game, even though all my "recommended settings" were set to "Ultra/Highest", my resolution was set to 1280x720 and as I changed it... Boom! The same bug as Warframe had, a freeze followed by a black screen and rebooting soon after. So I decided to investigate, started up Warframe, changed the resolution and that happened again... Then as I tried to enter the game again it would give me the same "bug" as soon as I reached the login screen. I tried multiple benchmarks(Uniengine Valley and Haven), games that I considered very stable before, like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of Mordor etc. And these, which were before set to 1080p, gave me the black screen as soon as they landed in the menu. As I mentioned in the list above, I tried multiple things and alleged solutions that I already knew about to no avail. The issue is pretty much isolated to the Dedicated GPU since I tested it with the integrated GPU and the "bug" didn't happen whatsoever. I really can't see other solutions beside trying to flash my Bios, which was something I've never done before and therefore wouldn't really like to do in case I really end up having to RMA it(would rather send it over with the "factory" bios since I never updated it) Regarding that there is a single update available and it was mostly for safety regarding the "micron" memory issue which plagued mostly EVGA cards last year... If anyone could see another thing that I maybe haven't tried I'd love to hear it but right now the only thing I can think of besides flashing the bios is just sending it back for RMA...
  2. wait it out, way too small of an upgrade to be worth it when we're so close to another GPU launch
  3. If you want a little bit more data to look around for, keep in mind that the 960m is pretty much a 750ti which is a fairly popular card so you can find a lot about it. Speaking from experience, the 960m will handle BF1 on ultra presets at around 30fps.
  4. **Shameless Bump** Sorry for this guys but we're already at 86 answers, just a few more to go...
  5. Just a quick update: We're already at 66 answers, only one third to go guys! Thanks to everyone that is participating! It helps us a lot!
  6. Yeah, I posted the right one. Let me clarify this a little bit better, this survey is not something that is supposed to be directly aimed at the problem/solution we're trying to create, this is just the initial "proof of concept" of one of the first parts of the project. It is not by any means something that will come even close to be used as reliable data, it is just something needed for the initial presentation of the project. The actual survey that will be conducted will have a completely different set of questions and can't even run outside the college itself, it needs a lot of data from the participants including name, cellphone, mail etc. So that they can be contacted again at a later date for further information in different stages of the product development. This survey itself was elaborated by the teacher that is supervising the project, it is supposed to get generic answers and, in words from his mouth "make it easier for you guys to get lots of answers, because its quite short and dumb". Now if you ask me how satisfied i was with his designation to watch over our project, I wasn't that happy, he is more of a software guy and it really shows as he wasn't really fully aware of what we were talking about, which might even have generated this overly generic questions. Anyway, I hope this finally calms you down And before you ask, no, I couldn't change the questions, I asked for a revision and he sent me the same questions back. As the project is obviously gonna be banked by the College I thought it was better not to go against him for now. Thanks for your attention, answers and criticism.
  7. Well schmuck on an internet forum, that idea is not what we're currently developing but it is a good one nonetheless. Thanks for your thoughts
  8. Just a small update: We're 1/3 of the way!(32 answers so far) thank you to everyone that's answering the form. You guys are great.
  9. Ok you won haha! Btw frying CPU's is something I'm trying to make harder for you guys
  10. I damaged the hard drive on my notebook once in a field trip. Said it suddenly stopped working and mostly pretended i didn't know sh*t about the subject. They got everything from it back for free and sent me a new HD
  11. Thank you to everyone that is answering the form, you're being of great help!
  12. The changes wouldn't have negative effects and some questions, even though they seem obvious, are necessary. As for the specific changes I cannot disclose yet since it is a College project with patent creation in mind. Thanks for you answer.
  13. Google Form So, this is a small form regarding a new idea that makes some small changes to the LGA socket standard. The changes are aimed at making it harder to damage the pins on the socket. This research need to be made for a college project and I need... well, at least 100 people to answer to it... If you could help by answering to it i'd be really thankful for it. There are only 4 yes/no questions so the form can be completed in a few seconds. Thank you for your attention.
  14. Most if not all motherboard manufacturers don't cover bent pins under their warranty, usually they take very high resolution pics of each motherboard after they've already been tested and validated and this pictures can then be traced back to it through it's serial number. That means that they will assume you were the one who bent the pins once they check that photo, which means that if the retailer is smart enough to check with the manufacturer they will never refund it. To be honest i see this as a huge problem mostly for Mobo's that don't come with any type of seal on their boxes as anyone could open that box and purposely damage the pins after the validation process.
