  1. Slightly different yes...but the random performance is two to three times worse off!
  2. Ok so I finally installed my HP S700 500GB SSD (non Pro version). I put it through the paces on CDM...but when I compare to the benchmark reviews of the exact same model...performance seems to be worse off in 2 of the 4 CDM areas. Comparison made against: https://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/hp_s700_ssd/4.htm The SeqQ32T1 Read/Write and Seq Read/Write readings are fairly comparable...but the 4K Q32T1 Read/Write (review 299/329 vs mine 201/107) and 4K Read/Write (35/135 vs 19/64.5) readings are pretty far off! Can somebody please make sense of these numbers and are they in any way indicative of a defective SSD? I'd rather send it in for a replacement if indeed that is the case. If these numbers are normal...then can somebody please explain such a large difference in my performance experience versus that of the benchmark in the review?   3. What are the biggest downsides of cloning vs fresh installing? Will data on the original HDD be compromised?
  4. I'm thinking of a fresh install but there are so many apps/programs that I cannot be fully aware of installed on my PC. For instance, graphics drivers, Canon printer, phone softwares. DAMN! Would it really be so bad to just copy over C: to my SSD? What's the SIMPLEST method?
  5. I got the HP S700 500GB SSD and want to move my OS install to the SSD from the HDD on my current PC, but also retain the HDD for music/photos. My HDD is partitioned as such: C drive for Windows and apps/programs, D drive for photos/music and E drive for games. C drive takes up about 100GB space. Basically I just want to have a simple way to install it such that Windows 10 boots from my OS. Problem is, HP does not provide a cloning tool. What options do I have? Basically my PC is a Dell Inspiron 660. I believe it can support an SSD. I would also need help to identify which SATA port is SaTA 3.0 on my mobo. The PC came with Windows 8 (or was it W7...I can't remember!) and I upgraded to Windows 10 for free during that period. What possible complications could arise if I do not have a CD key available for the W10 copy? Thanks!
  6. The i5 3330 is rated at 77W, the i7 3770 is similarly rated at 77W. When put under maximum load, my i5 3330 CPU goes to about 70-72C. It's only got basic cooling and I'm comfortable with these max temps as they're well within the operating limits. Both the i5 3330 and i7 3770 CPUs have absolute stock cooling and run in stock configuration. The reason I ask is because I've been thinking of upgrading my PC - if I upgrade the CPU to a i5 8400 or something along those lines (which on its own is great value), I have to upgrade my mobo and RAM as well and that makes the whole thing rather expensive. However I came across an i7 3770 for $80, which should greatly improve my PC's performance for a fraction of the cost and I'm considering going down this route. The only thing is, I'm worried about the temps. To me it doesn't make sense for a CPU that offers over 50% improved performance on the same Intel Core series is rated at the same TDP of 77W. I know higher power consumption leads to more heat produced. Long story short, ALL THINGS KEPT CONSTANT, will a stock i7 3770 run hotter than a stock i5 3330 under maximum loads? Thanks!
  7. I just got myself a HP S700 500GB SSD for $100. I thought it was a decent price. Anyway, the SSD is DRAM-less version, which is slightly slower than SSDs with DRAM. Beyond this though, what are the drawbacks/disadvantages of DRAM-less SSDs? Do they have a shorter lifespans? Are they more prone to failure? Anything at all? Thanks!

  10. Ok guys, I actually just bit the bullet and got a $100 500GB SSD off Amazon. It's this one: HP S700 500GB SSD https://www.amazon.com/HP-500GB-Internal-2DP99AA-ABC/dp/B072FL48XR/ I know enough about a PC to have upgraded my stock Dell build with a new PSU and also swapped in a proper GPU (GTX 1060) into there. But SSD is a new thing for me. It arrives on Friday. I hope you could tell me the basics. Basically if the OS installation can be moved relatively easily, I'd be up for it. Basically I just use the PC for regular apps (MS Office suite), Internet browsing and some gaming. Don't transfer files on/off the drive often, except for games that I download and delete once done. How long can I expect a basic SSD such as the one I bought to last? I know it's not the best, but as far as value for money is concerned, I thought it was a decent deal.
  11. I have been told minimum framerates will definitely increase in large open world games where the texture sizes are large and VRAM usage is heavy. I mean, unless I have been wrongly informed.
  12. I would love to run Windows but I'm just afraid it will require a complicated setup and eventually I lose my W10 license and my important files/apps.
  13. With all due respect, I know how fast an SSD boots up. I had a first gen Lenovo U300s Ultrabook back in 2011 and it used to boot in 11 seconds. To me it doesn't matter if it is 11 or 60 seconds, I only boot up my PC at most once a day, and often just leave it to sleep overnight.
  14. I have a standard 1TB WD 7200RPM SSD. To be really honest, in daily tasks such as MS Office and opening 30 tabs on Firefox and watching videos etc, there is basically nothing that feels slow. Even my PC boots up in under 60 seconds. However, in gaming...I start feeling it. Larger games takes long time to load, and sometimes open world games experience "hitching" when I max out my textures. I have a 6GB GTX 1060...the VRAM is more than sufficient. But it seems like the textures cannot be streamed fast enough from the HDD and cause hitching. For this reason I want to get a SSD for my games. But my OS etc work just fine...I want to leave it as is. Will that be possible? Will I still reap the benefits of a faster SSD if my primary drive is a HDD? Thanks!
