  1. Hey all, Looking to purchase an air cooler and start up some overclockling on my rig. Definitely not looking to build a custom loop, and kind of apprehensive about have having any water cooling in the computer. I'm essentially looking for any suggestions of high-end air cooling that could fit inside 20cm wide case. This would be for an i7-6700k on a Z170 board btw. Also, got my eye on three coolers in a shop near my place: the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Led, the Arctic Freezer I30 (both air coolers), and the Kuhler H2O K120 (AiO water-cooler). Any proposals/suggestions for a starting overclocker? Thx all
  2. Hey all, I'm currently on the market for a new laptop and have landed on these three - the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin, the Aero 15X by Gigabyte, and the New Razer Blade 15. All 1080p 144hz at 15.6in, thin bezels, with GTX-1070 and i7-7700... My question is, which one should I take? As they are all extremely comparably in specs and build, I'm having trouble deciding. I am also open to any other suggestion of laptops (any price range, as long as decent battery life, high refresh rate 1080p screen, and capable of gaming). Harold
  3. The fact it's hot is not a problem, and the concession on battery life is worth it for the 144hz. And I heard the build quality is great except on the top keyboard fan plate (too much flex as you said). Pretty certain I'm gonna get this one, it's literally got everything I'm looking for except the azerty keyboard
  4. Aware that it runs quite warm, not a problem. My old laptop, was very hot, I'm used to it. And I never use the laptop on my lap anyway. Oh and I'm not willing to go in and do an LM repaste anyway. So it's looking like it's going to be an MSI for me again!
  5. OK, was just about to go on and purchase it - and then MSI decided to unveil this beauty! Any opinions? At face-value it seems perfect, the high refresh-rate display at 1080p, amazing specs, less professional look than the Aero 15X but not too bad in that regard either. It even has a sick battery! Advertised at 8h, dunno about that, most reviews/tests I see say 6h, but that's still amazing! Linus in his video from yesterday also added 2.5h in gaming usage. All that for 2000$, which isn't necessarily cheap, but certainly for such a beast and under my max budget, i feel it's worth it. Edit: Also, because I know you're probably going to list the downsides of this choice, here's the ones I'm aware of: bad internal temps; extremely hot laptop while gaming, will sound like a jet engine while gaming - aware of these and am still willing to get it
  6. Hmm, well to be honest, I can't really afford to wait for the new model, and after looking at the Aero 15X for a while, it seems really great. So I think I'd be willing to compromise on the higher resolution and refresh rate. I'll do some more research into it and other possible alternatives and get back to you! But so far it looks really great, thank you
  7. My old laptop was only 2kg, having one slightly heavier is not a problem, but 4kg would be the upper limit Screen size, probably 15". Thickness, around or less than 2cm. Thanks a lot for all the help!
  8. No it wasn't actually - might have been, though i'd seen on msi softwares that other laptops had been having this same problem. I think it was software-side, but could have been the paste. I would rather choose more portability over greater power, definitely, I have my tower for proper gaming. However, I do travel a lot, so it'd be good to have a laptop that can sustain my hobby when I'm abroad. With regards to weight, under 4kg would be great
  9. So, I'm from Belgium, but am currently living in the US (and will be until August) which allows me to enjoy the more affordable american prices. My budget would be anything under 2500-3000$. In terms of battery, I don't need anything crazy really, 5-6h of autonomy on constant internet use (non-gaming) is great sounding right now. Just don't want it dying after 2-3h of use like the one I had before. In terms of specs, i'm looking for a GTX 1060 at minimum, with either a 1080p display & high refresh rate (120/144hz), or 1440p/4k at 60hz. You remind me actually, in terms of special requirements, it would be great if it could have an AZERTY keyboard (the french language keyboard standard), but if it is impossible to find this side of the pond then I'll give up on it. Edit: Oh and, I know that's asking for a lot, considering I want a thin gaming laptop, but if it could not sound like a jet engine on normal use, it would be wonderful (I don't care if it's loud while gaming). My old MSI had a problem with its fan curve, in that it would often just turn on and off every couple of seconds, going from max fan speed to complete silence succesively, even on normal use (watching videos, using word); that was really annoying.
  10. Hey everyone, I'm currently in the market looking for a new laptop as my old one has died. I was using an MSI GS60 GhostPro until now. In the same vein as the old one, I am looking for a thin gaming laptop, whose primary use will be for casual and professional usage (in university and for normal productivity tasks). Ideally, I would like for it to have a reasonable battery as my old laptop would die after a mere couple of hours of usage in class. I was thinking of maybe getting the Razer Blade Pro, but realized it has a quite a bit of competition this year. Any suggestions? My budget is fairly healthy and I should be able to afford any suggestion of thin gaming laptops currently on the market. Thanks all, Harold
  11. As i said, RAM clearance won't be a problem, but the side panel might very well be. Site says my case has a width of 21 cm and both the Cryorig R1 and Dark Rock Pro 3 have heights of 17cm, which I would expect to be too big; but then again, when I was shopping for my motherboard most of the info ascertained that it would be too big for my case and in the end it was a tight fit but perfect. Guess I could just buy one of those and then just return it if it's too big? PS: sidenote, but check out this beast jesus https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-RR-V8VC-16PR-R2-Heatpipe-Chamber-x/dp/B0160WQGBI/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1484228897&sr=8-18&keywords=cryorig+h7
  12. http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=704406&lan=uk That's my case, apparently it's got a width of 21 cm, and the dark rock pro 3 has a height of 17cm, but i still feel like it'd be too big. Do those measurements account for the motherboard etc ? Also I quite like the look of the cryorig r1 but how does it compare to the dark rock in performance? edit: nvm that last question, just saw this vid
  13. Budget - unlimited (considering im fine with paying up to 160$ dollars and i don't believe there any air coolers more expensive than that) I'll most likely be purchasing on amazon UK (based in the UK)
  14. Hey all, I intend to overclock my system very soon, and as a result, want to purchase a beefy air cooler. I have a 6700k which I've been cooling with an intel stock cooler so far (i know, i know... burn me at the stake), but I obviously don't want this situation to remain this way. My case is an Antec Six-Hundred V2 and has a 280mm fan on top and as a result, doesn't have the space for an AIO water cooling radiator meaning my only choice is an air cooler. Don't really have limits on my budget for it. Not interested in custom water cooling. Im using low-profile Corsair vengeance LPX RAM so it shouldn't be causing any clearance problem with the cooler and i'm running it all on an msi z170a gaming m5 motherboard. What would you recommend ? I've been thinking of the Dark Rock Pro 3 but wanted to ask around before making a definite decision. Obviously the Noctua nh-d15 is the best cooler around but it is just.. so.. ugly. Got a black and red theme going out for most of my case so would like the air cooler to fit that general style. Also if I could get any help making sure the clearance for the front panel works fine ? Thanks in advance!
  15. Hey all, In my rig I have an SSD which as I use as my boot drive and a 1TB hard drive. I recently decided to buy and install an additional 1 TB hard drive. I did, plugged it in as well as all the necessary cable but it wouldn't work or turn up inside the system. I then started playing 'find the problem' by turning on and off the computer with differentcables plugged in between my two hard drives which has shown that the problem does not lie with the SATA ports, SATA date cables, or either of the hard drives, but rather with the power cables. I even formatted the new HDD when i plugged it in using the cables i used for my older drive so it's ready for use. So clearly either I messed up with ordering the wrong cable for the SATA power, or they're simply not working. I bought two cables (as I'd ordered the wrong one the first time): - One PSU 6-pin connector to SATA power male - A 5x female SATA power splitter So i plugged the first into the PSU and into the second cable, which I plugged into the hard drive (I know, unnecessarily complicated but I couldn't be bothered with ordering another), and it's not working. Can someone tell me what I did wrong, and if I messed up with the cables, direct me to a link of the right cable to buy (live in the UK so if the link you use has delivery to the UK would be swell ^^) Thanks! Edit: I just realized after looking at my amazon order for the first cable, that it's a SATA power male to 6-Pin Pcie cable, so I imagine that's the problem no ?
