  1. Update: Unresolved threads are always bad, so I hope if anyone has a problem with their R9 290 Black Screening in the future, and their google hunt will hopefully lead them here to what helped me. I contacted Sapphire Support and after going through the basic steps of "Are the cabled plugged in", they sent me a guide and info on updating my Graphics Card BIOS. After doing this, I had not had a single Black Screen, or related issue. I have been playing Evolve for many hours. This is the GPU-Z info of my Old vBIOS that did not work: http://puu.sh/fOwBd/046c6060c1.png This is the new GPU-Z Info which seems to work: http://puu.sh/fOwDz/1cf7819961.png I hope anyone having issues in the future can stumble across this thread and find this information helpful.
  2. Thanks, I will look into this tomorrow. Rather burnt out and frustrated with the situation right now. Cables work fine in the R9 270, and I have had the R9 290 in and out so many times, I should have been able to connect the cables properly at least once.
  3. I have had the card in and out, in both PCI-E slots etc. Connections seemed to be fine to me.
  4. Specs: i5-3570k R9 270 (old GPU R9 290 (New GPU) Asus P8z77-v Pro Mobo 530W BeQuiet PSU Problem: With my R9 270, I can game fine. Only problem is I seem to need to use Boot Override to my SSD from BIOS when I start my PC, but this has always worked fine. Else, I will get to the Loading Windows screen, and then it is just black after that. I have recently purchased a new R9 290, but the issue persists that I could not reach windows without Boot Override, but...Boot Override didn't work either. I would still end up with a black screen and not reach windows. I installed an old driver (14.4 - which I read somewhere the internet worked), and it did, for a while. I was playing Dying Light for hours, took a break and then boom. Black Screen the second I open dying light. I have scoured the internet, and see a fair few posts about these issues with AMD cards, but I don't seem to see any fix/solution. I have taken out my R9 290, and currently using my R9 270 again - because it actually works (even with the newest AMD Drivers, which the R9 290 didn't seem to like at all). Can anyone please help me with what is wrong? If anything needs clarified, or additional info let me know and I will do my best to give it. Any help and advice is much appreciated. Edit: Solution seems to have been found. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/302558-amd-drivercard-issues-not-reaching-windows-without-boot-override-if-at-all/?p=4199947
  5. I have a problem with my PC, I was using an R9 270. When I installed Windows 8.1 I would get just a black screen after the Starting Windows splash screen (Just before I need to enter my Password) I found to bypass this, I needed to go into my boot options in the Bios, and force it to boot from my SSD. That seemed to make it work. Now, I have just got a R9 290, with the same issue, except the boot option thing no longer works. I just seem to always land on the black screen. If I just run the PC off the iGPU on my i5, it seems to work fine. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest AMD drivers but that didn't seem to fix it. What am I missing? Help is appreciated! Mobo is a Asus Z77-V Pro
  6. Buying a monitor, comes with no cables. Monitor has DVI or VGA out, and GPU has 1 DVI which is uses and 2 HDMI open Yeah, I don't use the sound from my monitor and it's only 60Hz
  7. Hey, Can I replace a DVI Cable with a HDMI cable and the monitor will still work as intended? I know there are adapters available, but what about just a straight up cable change?
  8. Any other ways to test the PSU? I have no meter, and am not really electric-savvy.
  9. Ok, turns out that weird buzz noise comes from my PSU
  10. Would the PSU be the same thing making my GPU run so hot as well as possible coil noise? The buzzing is more like a grinding/vibration noise I think, just before the fans gradually ramp up in speed. It does not last long at all before just hardcore fan blowing air noise. There is no whine though, which is good I guess.
  11. My computer is about 4-5 months old, there is very little dust in my case
  12. There is a bit of noise coming from the PSU, but I do not really notice it unless my ear is close to the supply. I did not see anything physically wrong with the GPU cooler. The temperature worries me more than the noise. I am scared to play anything when it just ramps up the heat like that. Everything is really quite silent and cool running until I get into a game with high graphics. I have only tried Borderlands and LoL with this GPU, but I might try others.
  13. No idea, I am from Scotland so its never that hot in my room
