  1. thanks man, just sad I lost my USB with Windows 8.1, now I only have 8... #firstworldproblems
  2. Jesus all mighty; how did you manage that? (pm me your config ) I have my 2 R9290's running at around 860kh/s, not sure how much more I can push them.
  3. Depends on your colour scheme, Red: MSI Twin Frozr or Asus DCUII Black: Gigabyte Windforce, PNY, Palitt, Gainward Greyish: EVGA White: Galaxy HOF They all perform much the same but it all depends on what you're aesthetic preferences are; or if that doesn't bother you; get the cheapest one you can.
  4. Sorry for trying to stop people who were about to call me stupid before they could No offence intended, simply a comedic jest
  5. Hey Everyone, So this morning my PC started startup repair when I booted it, odd. Next thing it restarts and after it boots (it ran the "Diagnosing" screen) I was greeted with a blue screen with two options: 1. Troubleshoot 2. Restart Now any idiot knows "worst comes to worst I'll restore from a previous point", but the thing is, I cant use any of the troubleshooting devices whatsoever because all my user profiles are gone. So I don't have admin access and there are seemingly no user profiles on the machine either. i plugged my HDD into another pc, all my files, user profiles, everything is there- so what the hell is going on? Is my OS corrupt? I'm backing up all the files right now but I really really dont want to reformat again. Any idea whats wrong and I how I can fix it? Thanks guys
  6. Have you tried mining on them fella? its a completely different story I can totally vouch for what @heinygoat has said
  7. Let me just say the LTC rig I built over the weekend is in the same room as me, its got 2 290's in it and they're both running at about 90%. I can literally hear it from anywhere in my entire house. But hey, I doubt you'll ever need to get to 100% on the fan when you're gaming, they are truly awesome cards- noise, heat and all. If its really a big concern, get the Asus DCUII, its coming out soon.... Bitch.
  8. I'm sorry, I just don't know how to reply to this. Is anyone else confused out of their minds? I'm not saying 770 SLI is bad, simply that I'd rather have the equivalent single gpu config- this is universally agreed upon- its not some pathetic opinion of mine.
  9. Hey Everyone, So I took the plunge today and ordered 2 R9 290's (yes not the 280x, I changed my mind!) they both come with Battlefield 4 and seeing that I and my friends all ready have the game is there somewhere I can sell it for LTC? I'm sure I remember I link on this very forum a few days ago to a reddit page or somesuch where there was an open LTC for games (and vice versa) market, any ideas? Thanks
  10. I believe your name speaks for your post I have never head of a 770 using more than 2.8gb's of its VRAM- because it simply cant. Secondly, I agree that most games for the forseeable future won't need more than 2GB's of VRAM at 1080p; common knowledge. Yes 770 SLI is a beast for the money, yes if its cheaper than the 780ti in your country by a large margin its a better deal, however, In most country's its marginally more expensive and it makes much more sense to get one card instead of two. Any builder worth his salt knows that single-card solutions are better than the equivalent dual one every time, 10 times out of 10. 770 SLI is great, but paying an extra $50-80 for the 2GB of VRAM you cant even utilize is worthless. Look mate, I love my 770, and I love Nvidia. But you have to understand this stuff is numbers; facts Fanboyism can't clout your judgement.
  11. Absolutely, its a great deal. It's certainly more than enough for most modern 1080P games, SLI is a great option for later down the line (I'll be purchasing another one sometime in the next year), its an excellent card.
  12. Nope, nope nope. The extra 2GB wont help at all because the bus (256bit) is just too small, you may get 2.5 as opposed to 2, which will quite literally only help for a very select few games and it isn't worth the extra cash. Also you can SLI the 2GB version perfectly well, if you aren't going to switch to a higher res any time soon I'd even recommend it. And if you do have the money to SLI 2 of these guys in 4GB config, please god rather get a better (780, 290, 780ti) gpu in single-gpu configuration. As far as performance, I love my 770, runs all those games at ultra quite easily. With ENB's and such on skyrim my FPS does sometimes dip to sub 40 (around 30-35ish), but it really depends on your mods. BF4 plays phenomenally well, so does TW2 (installed it this week!)
  13. Well I've decided to go with the 280x's, should be here by wednesday. Think I might even do a build log... Also how do you get such high hash rates? I guess I'm in for a wild ride this weekend.
  14. I used the calculator but I had no idea thats how it really worked, I didn't think it was literally double. I'm actually rather considering 2 290's, if I'm guaranteed about 1800 kh/s then I should break even in just over 3 and a half months. Then again I think I'll go for 3 280x's off the bat, in 3-4 months I should pay off the machine, and by then I can sell them for a price and buy non-reference 290's (because even though it will be in a tempereture monitored server room the high temps don't excite me)
  15. I actually just rechecked my pricelists, 7950 is literally 4 Rand (40 us cents) cheaper than a 280x  The 7970's are closer to $500, the prices here are whack, especially since they haven't been skewed by the mining rush
