  1. As long as he don't see much struggle in migrating the OS or maybe even reinstalling it. By the way, a heads up that I have in the past looked into buying an Intel 600p but been adviced not to, as it has issues with the cache config, slowing it down significantly. Look it up. EDIT: Will his usage benefit from NVMe storage? If not, then regular SATA SSD's are more than enough
  2. Works great here too. If you could spare some extra money you could add in a boot SSD, even just a 128GB one - it will make a night and day difference.
  3. Asking for a friend, who has an R9 390 and he wants to give it some overclocking. I don't have any experience owning AMD graphics cards, so I don't know how high you can go with the voltage. I know on Nvidia cards the max voltage is hard capped, so you just shove the overvolt to the max and then start dialing in the overclock. However how does it work with AMD cards? Do they also have a hard cap in a safe enough region, or is there a max voltage not to exceed for everyday use? Assuming thermals are good that is.
  4. What kind of music production are you into? Are we talking numerous recorded stems, tonnes of thick MIDI progressions, Kontakt libraries, long plugin chains, etc? Do you have other use case intentions for the PC aside from music production?
  5. Have I misunderstood the software, or do you create a full profile for every fan you want a fan curve on, i.e one profile per fan? What if I want to switch the overall audio level from the fans from my standard mode to a night mode if it needs to be running during the night in my room, how would I set that up? In AI Suite 3 you created one full profile covering all fans, so when I wanted to for instance switch to the night mode I only had to load one profile.
  6. Now I got the next problem, I restarted the PC, and now the fan curve won't apply ever since the restart. I've even manually launched the software and unchecked and then checked the Automatic Fan Speed -box. EDIT: It even says in SpeedFan that the fans are spinning with the fan curve, but you clearly hear it's not working. EDIT#2: I forgot to enable Remember in the Advanced tab - solved.
  7. For now I've successfully managed setting up my own fan curve in SpeedFan, but I really want a different software ASAP, this one is pretty inferior to Fan Xpert in AI Suite 3.
  8. I figured it out - I forgot to set the fan to Manual in the Advanced tab
  9. I've been able to control that one fan in the past when I had AI Suite 3. It's PWM, so if it's constantly running 12V shouldn't affect speed right? I have Asus X99-A, and I think there is a CPU_OPT fan header next to the CPU_FAN header, which I think is meant for the pump, but this fan is plugged in on a header at the bottom left corner of the board.
  10. I'm currently setting up SpeedFan, and I've discovered that all fans but one respond to fan load changes. The one not responding is a Noctua chassi fan running in PWM mode. All other fans are either DC controlled chassi fans, or the PWM controlled fan on the CPU aircooler (also Noctua). How do I access control of this last fan?
  11. - Can't find any way to control the fans in Corsair Link - I tried reinstalling AI Suite 3 to see if the program was the one causing a specific crash. Then nothing works when I installed it again, and I found out later it's because it currently collides somehow with Creators Update. So if you ever reinstall AI Suite 3, you're likely to encounter this issue as well. Basically everything slows down to the point where the PC ís unusable and you're forced to uninstall AI Suite 3 for now. - If I'd need help with SpeedFan I'd look up a tutorial, I'm more just frustrated that this program is my only option at the moment (since I don't like it at all)... unless I find any other program.
  12. Sadly I had to remove AI Suite 3 due to glitches, on which I really loved the fan controller as it was so simple and user friendly. Now I'm sitting here with SpeedFan, scratching my head and simply have a horrible experience, wishing I could go back to AI Suite 3 again... Is there any fan control software out there that are more or less just as user friendly as the one in AI Suite 3?
  13. I personally always leave Vsync off until I see screen tearing. The additional input lag from the in-game Vsync is obvious to my experience. Not saying it's a general game killer as you eventually would get used to it in non competitive games and learn to compensate for it, but I can imagine it being in the way to a valid degree in games like PUBG. EDIT: You could experiment with Nvidia's native Vsync alternative (or AMD's if it has one) but it hasn't worked for me at least, still getting tearing with it turned on.
  14. It goes down to what games you play. Check YouTube gameplays with your desired games at standard 16:9 1080p and 1440p, and guess your 21:9 performance somewhere between them (don't dare to say exactly where in between) - unless you find actual gameplays with 2560x1080 of course. I'm an owner of of a GTX 970 OC'd gaming @72Hz, and depending on the game it works perfectly fine, maybe with plenty of overhead, or is somewhat below (50-55 'ish FPS). I would guess GTX 970 with that resolution is a decent choice if you're into e-sport games, but I wouldn't recommend it for pre-optimized early access games or AAA-titles. As for sync technology, I'm not personally interested in G-Sync or Freesync at that refresh rate, I just stick to V-Sync off until I see tearing, where i bite the bullet and enable it - mostly I get away with no sync enabled at all.
  15. I have some softwares of which I want to prevent autostart, however I only know how to do it inside task manager, and they don't show up there under the autostart tab. Is it possible to do it elsewhere on the PC?
  16. Earlier this week I disabled Samsung RAPID mode to get more memory available for various reasons. However, since then I've had 2 system related BSODs, both with different stop codes. Before I've only had BSODs caused by overclock stability errors, or when a GPU driver has been bad. As for GPU drivers, the last update was a while ago, and there are no new drivers out, so I can probably rule out that. As for overclocks, they have all been stable for quite a long time now, so it would unlikely be that causing it in terms of overclock stability. The last stop code was: System Thread Exception Was Not Handled The first one I can't remember, but it was related to memory when I googled the stop code. In both scenarios, the PC had been turned on for a while and haven't been rebooted for at least 1-2 hours, and I've had applications running, in both instances Google Chrome as well as a game (this last time I had only just launched it) aside from other lighter programs.
  17. An Audio Interface has a soundcard inside, aside from the additional features. We're referring to the same gadget I believe.
  18. Rendering MIDI is done by a processor, either by the CPU inside the PC, or by a processor in music equipment such as a MIDI controller. The soundcard you refer to only acts as a hub where info passes by, converts A/D or D/A, etc.
  19. I regret buying a condenser mic for voice recording, I wish I'd grabbed a lapel microphone instead. The massive thing just gets in the way. However I only talk into the microphone - nothing musical. What type of voice recording is the mic for?
  20. I haven't used that specific one, but I've used WeTransfer a few times. PS. Your text is nearly invisible in night theme
  21. When enabling Samsung RAPID mode on my PC, will the SSD reserve some of the RAM, meaning I only have 12 GB RAM left to be used as system memory - or does it only utilize the specified amount of memory, meaning I still have a total of 16 GB of RAM usable, but just higher RAM usage when reading large files? The reason why I'm asking is because I'm hosting a non-dedicated server in a game with my friend with long tethering distance, and my total RAM usage peaks at 13-14 GB for short periods of time, and I don't know if I should disable RAPID mode or if I'm still good to go.
  22. I could instead do a full backup once a week, and then a differential the rest of the days... they won't be as small as when doing incremental, but still not as large as full backups.
