TL;DR;
Is the Dell an all round better monitor? Or should I opt for the higher resolution monitor, if so, is the differencein price (~$500 AUD) between the 25in and 29in worth it for the 4 extra inches? Hence decreasing the pixel density. Keep in mind, I'll be buying 3 of my selected monitor and price plays a big factor in my decision.
So I'm struggling to lock in a decision and need some advice, here's where I stand:
It'll be a multi-monitor setup so I'll be buying 3 of my chosen monitor.
Prices:
Dell U2414H - $335 * 3 = $1010 AUD
LG 25UM57-P $225 * 3 = $675 AUD
LG 29UM57-P $399 * 3 = $1197 AUD
What I do (in order of priority):
University Work/Software Development/Auto cad/Engineering Stuff
A LOT of Multitasking
Gaming (Although multi-monitor gaming will be messed around with, it is not the purpose and one monitor will be used most the time.)
Ideal Target Specs/Goals:
Must have IPS
Must have VESA
Must Be able to hook 3 of the monitor up to my GPU (which has 2x Dual Link DVI, 1x HDMI and 1x DP1.2 as outputs) without losing quality.
Ultrathin Bezels (The thinner the better)
Higher resolution is preferable
Price is important, lower is better
Dell:
Pros:
- Covers everything on check list except price and higher resolution.
- Really good reviews.
- Highly adjustable stand.
- Very aesthetically pleasing.
- Daisy chaining capable.
- Better all round monitor.
Cons:
- Rumored amongst users (no mention in the reviews) to have problems running with DP.
- Price, won't be able to buy all 3 monitors at once, will have to stagger purchase.
LG 25:
Pros:
- Covers everything on the check list.
- Price is really cheap considering it's features.
- Price. Again. Deserves mentioning twice since I'll be able to buy all 3 monitors at once if I choose this option.
Cons:
- Not many reviews.
- Bezel is slightly thicker than the dell.
- Apparently the high pixel density caused by the low panel size to high resolution ratio is not desirable.
LG 29:
Pros:
- Solves the pixel density problem of the LG 25
Cons:
- Most expensive option, not really wanting to spend that much, but if it comes highly recommended, and given the resolution, I might consider.
In summary, I'm leaning towards the LG 25, but am still considering the Dell, I probably won't go the LG 29 unless someone can sell me on it.
If you've made it this far, thank you for your time and advice!
