  1. Helo guys, I've been having plenty of trouble try to get this to work. I explain to you the situation. I have four drives in my system SSD-Windows HDD1-Windows file programs etc. HDD2-Linux(hopefully) I've been tring to instal linux on a completly different drive but it just doesnt work. The whole process is full of errors. I have tried disabling the safeboot and fastboot and the sata is booting in AHCI mode. I have tried with 32 and 64 bit OS (mine is 64). I get to a point in the install were I get a black screen(I tried nomodeset which get me a bit further). I cant start it in UEFI mode because Windows is installed in Legacy therefore I should have to make sure that Linux also is in Legacy mode. If i try on UEFi in the install process i get this error. "Force UEFI Installation? This machines's firmware has started this installer in UEFI mode but it looks like there maybe existing operating systems already installed using BIOS compatibility mode, If you continue to install Debian in UEFI mode,it might be difficult to reboot into any BIOS-mode operating system." I have tried to instal with the drives inpulgged both the sata and the pwoer leaving on the drive I want but that doesnt help either. I would apreciate some help I'm out of ideas. Thanks Bob
  2. Changed the motherboard and the processor. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/nf3HBP
  3. I will change the CPU to a Intel i5 4690 (no k). I dont plan on any overclocking. What do you guys think about the dimensions of the stuff?
  4. Hello, I finaly got the cash and the guts to actually build a PC. These are the pieces. I'm most worried about the things fitting in the case and the compatibility. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/hbyV7h Many thanks for checking. Also please tell me about any particualy things I might need for building up the rig.(Is the anti static strap really necessary?) Bob
  5. Helo, I was anxious for the 16.04 LTS release. I managed to upgrade from 15.10 successfully. Nevertheless, once upgraded I found that many of the programs I frequently are not supported in 16.04. I would like to ask you guys if you know any reliable substitutes for Bitmask. This program is used to run a VPN which in my case is provided by online provider. Furthermore, I also could not find Play on Linux. If these arent out yet could you guys tell me when they will be? Thanks, Bob
  6. Hello, So after you guys have selected your components and have them in front of you how do you go about building up the computer?(Also, How did you check that they were compatible and that they fit inside the case?) What tools do you use? Thanks Bob
  7. Helo, Although I'm not new to computers I do feel there are great gaps in my knowledge and would like to learn more about PC Building and Components. Do you guys have any suggested web pages or books? Thanks Bob
  8. Hello, I have heard that 80mm fans are notoriously loud. However, I would like to know if there are any exceptions as I would like to add these fans to a Corsair 240 case. Thanks Bob
  9. Thanks for answering. I've seen the corsair forum http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133256&page=2 in which they talk about several graphics cards would you think that a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Gaming G1 WindForce OC 4GB GDDR5 would be a appropriate choice?do you have any other suggestions? I really do not want to risk it with the MSI R9 390 because of the dimensions I don’t doubt its performance. I'm impressed with the community of this forum many thanks to all. Thanks Bob
  10. Thanks for this suggestion it actually seems to me to be a much better build than my very own . The only question is if all the stuff fits well into the case I’ve seen this picture https://imgur.com/yjcJlxT in which it shows that the card does fit but the cables don’t. It appears that a Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X OC 3GB GDDR5 (Rev 2.0) does fit in this build https://pcpartpicker.com/b/djr7YJ .If it doesn’t fit would there be any similar cards that would. I also wonder if I need any additional cooler for the CPU. Thanks Bob
  11. Thanks guys for your prompt reply. The only doubt I have is if everything is compatible. I do know that most of the components fit into the case. However, I don’t know if there any bottlenecks or incompatibilities. Also about the liquid cooler how long do they last? Thanks Bob
  12. Helo, I'm new to these forums and would like to thank you guys in advance for the support. As of now I’ve been 7 years with the same desktop. I have a Intel Core Duo, a ASUS P5K-E and a NVIDIA card with 512 internal memory. So I thought it was time for a upgrade. I do know a little both computers but I am quite limited. I would like to know your opinion on the following build and see if you guys could catch any incompatible parts or stupidity on my part. Its purpose would be gaming but not with very recent titles and everyday use. I live in Europe and would like to not exceed the 1000 euro price tag.
