  1. Huh - glad I'm not the only one who goes through that. Last year I had a REALLY good logitech headset, it was USB, and well first the microphone died (and at the time I was really into youtube video creating) so I started using a playstation eye to compensate (Hard to believe THEY work as microphones on Windows 8+), then the right ear died. It was the ear where the wire was going into, and here's ANOTHER kicker - the left ear was fine. Guess the speaker blew on me, but I had similar "random fixes" where I would bend the wire in a certain way and the right ear would pop back into existence and start working... thank god the mic was mounted there so I could use it as a way to hold the wire... those headphones are now FULLY dead and I have a new pair now.
  2. I was googling "shiftos c#" to test if my website's SEO was working properly and I came across this on the second page of results. Anyways to add onto "playing shiftos at school", I showed some people it on the last day of school (even a teacher) on my home PC with teamviewer and they actually were interested in the game. One of the people who liked it actually created a piece of content to put in the game, in the form of an enemy hacker network using in-game developer tools. Because he's not a programmer and he's never played the game before I had to explain a few things to him but after that it was as simple as "Here's what you can use in your network, tell me which one you want to put where, and I'll put it there." Then I showed him how it takes the network we designed (it's literally just placing green squares with health indicators in a black box) and generates JSON that I can stick in the game's resources and how I use the very same workflow to add actual enemy networks to the game. It was a cool experience and probably something I'll never get a chance to do again at school, so it's something I'll probably never forget. That network's still in the game a week later btw... it's in the latest source code. I let him enter the network's description and it says it's a cancer research company (he didn't know it was generating a network you had to destroy) so I'll have to change that description a wee bit... but it's still there.
  3. Ummm... perhaps there's a recovery partition on your drive about the size (or even bigger) of a windows ISO? I know there's something like that on my Toshiba Satellite that contains a full Vista image.
  4. ...Meh. I've played ShiftOS at school, even with the hijackscreen and everything during Art Class and with speakers on and no headset. No one batted a single eye. Teacher didn't even hear the loud beeping But it must've done something as the C:\ShiftOS folder was created but couldn't be accessed outside of the game (that's not intended behaviour. I can access my save outside the game at home.)
  5. I know that, but I mean, instead of just showing a button that will then show it, maybe just automatically show the reply while playing the sound?
  6. Well, I mean, it's not too difficult for me now that I know where the notification pops up, and I'm in no means forcing you to change it, but it's just a bit awkward at first for those who may not notice the little box appearing at the bottom, even though they hear the sound of a new notification. Maybe you could try something like what the Discourse forum software does, where it doesn't require you to manually refresh the page when there's a new reply. I mean, if the site can tell you there's a new reply without even refreshing the page than why not display it and play the sound instead of just saying "Hey! New reply over here! Refresh to see it!" Again, you don't have to do it. Just a suggestion.
  7. Alright, forgive me for being stupid. But I use a magnifier on my PC. Shows in full-screen, and I prefer it that way. Whenever I hear the little 'ding' of this site showing I have a notification, my first instinct is to go where? Hmmm... maybe to that notification menu at the top. But then I see there's nothing there! Instead the notification appears at the exact opposite spot on the page, which isn't visible through my magnifier's focus, so thinking I have no new notifications and the sound was just a glitch, I instantly go back to doing what I was doing in another program and never even notice the little box at the bottom of the screen. It'd be a bit more user-friendly for those who also use full-screen magnifiers and possibly for those who like things in one convenient menu to put that notification (as well as other notifications that appear in that bottom corner) in the top notification box. And maybe you could add the ability to selectively delete notifications to prevent clutter.
  8. Trust me... it just says it's formatting. All it does is add a C:\ShiftOS folder where it stores savedata and stuff. And by the time the format screen comes up it's already done saving the game so it's not doing anything
  9. First off, forgive me if I'm breakin' any rules here... Not trying to advertise or anything, but I figured I'd share something I'm working on here because why not. Basically, this game I'm making... ShiftOS... doubles as a game and a prank application. Basically it scares the user by saying they've been hijacked and involuntarily selected to try an experimental operating system called ShiftOS. Their hard drive gets formatted in the process. That'd be funny as a prank, as it requires no administrator privileges (unless it's a school PC or something) which means, well, if this post gets popular and one of the guys at the LTT office sees this and decides to do a ChannelSuperFun video about it... let's just say, I'd imagine an unsuspecting victim would probably get real scared real quick. Especially if they're editing a video for LTT and all of the sudden their PC gets hijacked, and their hard drive formatted. It doesn't really get formatted. But yeah. Anyways if you're interested... http://playshiftos.ml/...
