  1. I am trying to DIY a 5TB mobile drive and I have a question. I have found a mobile hard drive enclosure that supports both USB 3.1 type-c and 15mm hard drive. Seagate Backup Plus Portable has a 5TB model that uses ST5000LM000 drive which is 2.5 inch 15mm thick drive. What I am trying to do is to buy a raw ST5000LM000 hard drive and put it into the hard drive enclosure. I don't want to buy a pre-built Seagate Backup Plus Portable because it does not use USB type-c connector. Here is the question: Do I need an external power adapter to power the drive? According to Seagate data sheet, ST5000LM000 has a startup current of 1.2A at 5V which exceeds USB 3.0 power delivery (5V 1A). However, the pre-built Seagate Backup Plus Portable 5TB model does not need a power adapter so I am confused. Maybe I can power this drive only with USB cable? Is it possible?
  2. Titan V requires tensor core to reach 100T which use cases are limited to deep learning. The card is only about 25% faster than Titan Xp in normal usage.
  3. I concur. Due to the fact that Tensor cores are useless to most people, I think the claim of peak performance of 100 TFlops is snake oil. The benefits are clear, however - 1. Single card has better power effciency 2. Single card has no downsides of SLI 3. Can spare one PCIE slot I have decided that none of above benefits are worth spending $2999. I shall wait for flagship gamer cards which should be a lot cheaper.
  4. I have two Titan X Pascal loaded in SLI and Nvidia just release their latest Titan V. I want to switch SLI config to single Titan V because I think it will games better. Is it correct? My CPU is Intel 6900K and my display works at 3440x1440 with 100FPS refresh rate. Please, I welcome any advice. Thanks.
  5. Here is the problem: My company has two old computers running on Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and they have very vital Honeywell industrial control system installed. Recently, the two computers became a little unstable. I want to migrate the two old computers into VirtualBox which runs on a new server. Any ideas ?
  6. I have a ASUS ROG Rampage V Edition 10 motherboard and I have some questions about it. There is a "EZ_PLUG" on the bottom of the motherboard. In the manual, it says "connect the 4-pin EZ_PLUG power plugs to ensure sufficient power when you install multiple graphics cards". I plan to install two pascal-based titan x in two-way SLI. My questions: 1. On the motherboard, EZ plug is a molex connector. What kind of molex cable should I use? Should I use a 4-pin to molex cable or a 6-pin to molex cable? 2. Where should I plug molex cable into the PSU ? I think I should plug the pin-end into PCIE power. Is that correct? 3. Is it really necessary to use a EZ plug to run SLI? The graphic cards already have 8pin+6pin power supply. Why on earth does ASUS make me to connect a EZ plug?
  7. I got it. U.2 port is a SAS port but there is no SAS controller on the motherboard. It seems that U.2 can only be used to connect NVMe SSD for just being a connector of PCIe lane.
  8. I heard that the U.2 port is actually a mini-SAS port (SFF-8639). Does it mean that U.2 port can be used to connect SAS hard drive except NVMe SSD?

  10. I would like to own a VR headset that can play 3D movies and I wonder if Oculus Rift can be used as a personal home theater. That is to say, if Oculus Rift can display both left-right and up-down formatted movies content. I use MPC-HC to play both video and audio stream. I also wonder if playing 3D enabled movies requires any special software.
