  1. Hello everyone, I want to build (or buy prebuilt) a nice desktop to power a VR headset (HTC vive) I'm not really sure what I need, I want it to run flawlessly and not be too taxing on the hardware, I dont want anything to be overclocks at all, I want everything to be running at stock speeds. but I'm not planning on doing any super heavy-duty tasks, if it could be used for 4k gaming that would be cool but not required, I'm mostly interested in being able to run VR, Also I would like a minimum of 32GB memory, could anyone recommend anything?
  2. is the 1700x or 1800x as good as the 6900k?
  3. I will also be playing some Vive games, will the 1700 do alright powering the htc vive? (single gtx 1080)
  4. Im not planning on any OC, mostly productive stuff, so I should get the 1700?
  5. other than the slightly faster clock speed, what are the benefits, it seems like the 1700 would be the best because of the significantly lower power consumption, but its also the cheapest. not sure what to get
  6. Alright, 2k budget, you guys went way way over-kill. Also, a few things now that I see your insane builds 1TB SSD (only storage) 32gb memory one video card
  7. 1. Budget & Location US, not too worried about budget, dont want to be wasteful 2. Aim HTC vive and AAA titles of the future 3. Monitors still up for debate, either dual 4k, or tripple 4k 4. Peripherals don't need 5. Why are you upgrading? Don't currently have a PC for this and I want one, I also want the case/internals to be color coordinated (I like red)
  8. most memory is being used by Intellij, java, SQL and Chrome
  9. on a laptop I use, there are 8gb of memory, when I open up resource monitor, there are generally 6 or 7gb "in use" and the rest in "standby" and generally under 0.1gb in "free" how much memory should be in use for general operation of a computer ? do I need more memory?
  10. thanks, that was useful information. makes me feel better about my new memory set-up
  11. I was having some issues with the memory in my laptop and to get it to boot and run normally I had to seriously lower the performance of my memory. am I going to see any noticable difference between running 1333 single channel compared to the 1600 dual channel that I had running before? I understand in benchmarks there will be a difference, but what about in practical applications such as compiling code, image-resizing and SQL jobs?
  12. I just noticed that the 850 EVO now goes up to 4TB, why would anyone need a 4TB SSD?
  13. That is quite a bit, but I suppose I expected as much. thanks for taking the time to walk through that
