  1. I went ahead and bought an e5-2660 v4 to try out and it does work. I assume you just need to make sure the bios is updated. I just wanted to post this Incase someone else was in the same position.
  2. Did you try updating the bios? I saw that your bios is on version 1.33 and looking at the bios version log it doesn't look like broadwell support was added until version 3.32. if you download the read me on Lenovo support page. I am in the same sport you are and wanted to ask before I got a v4 processor and it not work. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds102451-thinkserver-bios-update-bundle-file-thinkserver-rd350-rd450
  3. Unfortunately no, the company that created the software thought it would be a good idea to build it around MSSQL. If I had my way it would be on Linux and have MYSQL.
  4. Yea i am seeing that, and unfortunately we have to run the windows server and Microsoft SQL due to the software the business runs on, so those are unavoidable. The software is the only reason we are putting sql on there.
  5. yes it is the only server and they wouldn't be using it for the DC. When we picked it we did not know that essentials had to be a DC, and it was not something that Lenovo told us about when we bought it. I even asked if there would be issue with running SQL on it and they said no, but that's not here nor there. They are using a pc that has windows 7 and it is someones daily computer to run their server software, which is why they are making the move to a server. Their will only be maybe 9 people actively on the network it so i didn't see a reason to add something like a DC. if i would have know about it having to be a DC then i would have gotten the standard version. By your last statement it does not seem like it will work with what we need. i am hoping Lenovo will work with us to get an upgrade for it. we are hoping not to have to buy another full copy of windows server.
  6. We have recently got a server that has Windows server 2012 r2 essentials and we need to install Microsoft SQL Server 2012 standard on it, but have been running into some issues. Recently I looked and saw that Windows server 2012 r2 essentials has to be the domain controller and SQL server says it cannot be on the domain controller. Is there anyone that has been able to install it and it run fine? I did see someone on a Spiceworks forum where someone said that you couldn't, but I am hoping they are wrong. i tried asking Microsoft about it but they wanted $500 for a yes or no question. Sorry if this has been answered some where else on here, the searching kept failing.
  7. i will say you guys have been a lot more helpful than other forum i posted on.
  8. yea it does that regardless of what it is booting from. i attached a video, there is nothing on the screen until i moved my phone to it. im gonna try updating the bios and see if that helps. 20160318_171734.mp4
  9. did you go over the spec or set it manually to the spec?
  10. i have reset it before and that didn't change anything. i've been a little hesitant about updating the bios bc i was worried about bricking my mobo. yea i saw his video and that's kinda what drove me to look into it again. it will post without issue. it just turns on for a second or 2 then shutdown, does it again, and then it will starts up normally. it does that same thing every time. Also, oddly enough i believe the mobo i have is the AMD version that is in Jay's video, which made me wonder if it was a common issue with these mobos.
  11. I have a fx-6300 in a gigabyte mother board and i have had an issue for a while with it boot looping twice and then turning on without an issue. it does this every time consistently. Since it has been doing this i have change the PSU, Hard drive, PSU, and graphics card. After it does that it works fine so idk if I should even worry about it. if you have information that could help that would be great.
