  1. Hi, I upgraded to a 5800X around Christmas and have been having a strange issue where Windows will sort of freeze up, the time freezes for example, but some programs that I would assume are mostly loaded into RAM still kinda work. For example, I was watching a YouTube video at the time a freeze happened and the video continued playing, it wasn't until I tried to load a new video that I noticed it had occurred again. It also happened during a zoom lecture, I could still hear the lecturer talking but the video had frozen so I sat there with no video until the end. The cursor can still be moved around and the start menu can be loaded but it can't find any programs, I can't even press restart, it just hangs. The problem is a bit strange and hard to properly explain but I'm really not sure what it could be. I have a video of a time that the error occurred if that helps. https://youtu.be/VwQY8nqiZ5g My system is: Ryzen 7 5800X Asus ROG Strix X570-E (Tried BIOS versions 2816, 3001, 3202, 3405) G.SKILL Trident Z Neo 32GB (2x16GB) CL18 3600MHz Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB Corsair RM850 NZXT Kraken x52 Samsung 970 Evo 500GB for OS (Currently using an Samsung 850 Evo 250GB which I will explain below) Samsung 970 Evo 1TB for Games Seagate Barracuda 1TB for general storage Seagate Barracuda 2TB for Games When upgrading my PC, I upgraded the CPU, Mobo, RAM, PSU and added the 1TB SSD, other drives and GPU were the same as before. I'm listing everything because I genuinely don't know what the issue could be at all at the moment. I have tried: Removing all OC's Updating to newest BIOS and tried beta versions Reverted back to stable BIOS I asked on tech support reddit and one person suggested it may be a failure mode of NVMe SSDs, so I troubleshooted my boot drive. I tried: Updating SSD's firmware Uninstalling and reinstalling Samsung NVMe driver Just uninstalling the Samsung NVMe driver and leaving it unistalled Forcing the M.2 slots to run at Gen 3 Making sure the temperatures of the drives would fine Optimising the drive Uninstalling Samsung Magician Reinstalling Windows After the problem was still there after reinstalling Windows, I installed Windows to my old 850 Evo and RMA'd my drive since I've only had it for 2 years maybe. Haven't had any issues for over a week but it's just happened again. I didn't try removing the second SSD which I should have probably also tested but I didn't think it would be to do with that drive if Windows was unresponsive. Sorry for the kinda long post and not very descriptive title, the problem is a bit hard to put into words. Edit: I forgot to mention, the system started with Trident Z Neo CL18 3600MHz 16GB but I switched it for 32GB of the same speed because I was using all my RAM when hosting modded minecraft servers for my friends. The first time it happened was overnight while running that server, but I can't remember if that was before or after changing the RAM.
  2. I would likely upgrade at the end of the year so I suppose I'll wait to see how the zen 3 launch goes to decide.
  3. I do want to use Christmas as an excuse to upgrade, so I may honestly just look at getting a 3800X or something, it's only a year old anyway and I'm pretty sure I'd be happy with that upgrade from a 4690K lol. Edit: and look at GPUs later down the line.
  4. I mean going back to a system that doesn't have an SSD is infuriating to me lol. Everything is just slow, waiting for the start menu to pop up is slow. It's also that I paid the extra for an NVMe drive but don't get the speed benefit of having it, so currently it was a bit of a waste. I've seen benchmarks of people getting faster than what I'm getting so I think it might be how the PCIe lanes are setup on this board or something.
  5. I mean I don't honestly neeed it but it would be nice for the few situations it hangs up. I do want M.2, I upgraded to a second hand Asus Z97-AR to get M.2 but I'm not sure if it's running at full speed.
  6. I currently have an i5 4690K @ 4.4GHz with a GTX 1060 6GB. Had the 4690K for around 5 years and the 1060 for around 4 now. I'm looking to upgrade to keep up with the times and to get some more performance for the things that need it. I mostly play eSport titles but there are some more intensive games I play like Rust or even the new Call of Duty that I'd wanna try that might not run great. I do also use my PC for some 3D modelling, some video editing, some programming and occasionally running game servers for my friends to play on (mostly minecraft). Some actions in Fusion 360 take a loooonnggg time to complete sometimes but it's not that often, and for the servers depending on what we've got setup on the server, it can be running 5+ seconds behind constantly. Now that I've given some information on what I use it for, I'll explain what I'm really asking. I had been looking at something like a 2070 a few months back to just have a better GPU but thought my CPU might cause a bottleneck(?) so I held off. I then began thinking about upgrading my CPU, looking at Zen2 so I'd have to buy new motherboard, RAM and CPU, expensive upgrades. So I also held off for longer on that hoping that Zen3 may come before the end of the year but not so sure about that anymore, was also a bit worried about initial launch problems with AMD that may potentially make the upgrade a headache. I would now want to look at the 3070 maybe, but maybe just the FE. Would I need to upgrade my CPU before GPU to get the best of newer GPUs? If so, should I just get Zen2 at this point or wait for Zen3 still?
  7. I got a new monitor for my birthday a few months ago and for some reason with that monitor connected it won't let me boot to BIOS, nothing happens if I press delete when booting. If I connect a different monitor as a second monitor it lets me boot to BIOS with 2 connected. I'm not sure where the issue lies but I will list some relevant specs below. This monitor behaves differently than the previous monitor I used, changing input on the monitor acts like the monitor is completely disconnected from my PC which causes the monitors to briefly go black as if it was just connected. Previous monitor did not do this. If it's just a quirk that I can't fix, I can live with unplugging it to get to BIOS. Motherboard: Asus Z97-AR CPU: i5 4690K GPU: GTX 1060 6GB Monitor 1: Asus VG248QE connected over DVI-Dual Link (also set as primary monitor) Monitor 2: Asus MG28U (Problem monitor) connected over HDMI 2.0 Thanks in advance!
  8. If I just googled audio source switcher or something similar instead I would have found more of what I wanted... welp
  9. That switching box seems to be what I would be after. But I kinda want the opposite of the splitters functionality of the splitters, unless they have potential of running in reverse?
  10. I have a set of speakers going through a CD changer thing because I was just given them by a neighbour. I usually have my chromecast audio plugged into them but sometimes I like to plug them into my PC for sim racing and sometimes watching videos. How would I go about connecting both my PC and chromecast audio to the speakers at the same time? I googled it and mostly found people asking to use both inputs simultaneously, which is not what I want. How would I go about this? I wouldn't be opposed to a different amp for the speakers if its smaller than the current CD changer.
  11. I'm completing a college project on autonomous vehicles and have created a short questionnaire to provide some primary data to write about. If anyone could spare 2 minutes to complete my questionnaire that would be much appreciated. http://bit.ly/2OtXjr9 Thankss
  12. Hmm I was given average core of 83 pfff Edit: Actually says that the dominant limiter is power, handy, but I figured that anyway.
  13. Don't really know why I didn't realise that I'm probably crashing occasionally in time spy cus the core clock is slightly too high rather than the memory clock causing. I couldn't find the auto oc thing so I changed my skin and I'm currently running that.
  14. Btw does 3DMark read half the memory clock because it's DDR?
