How would I retain the files on the hdd, and can I use the same windows 7 key as I did with the initial instal?

So I got lazy and decided to turn off my PC with the power button. However now it does not load windows. When I turn on the system, everything powers on and the asus logo appears but then all I get is a blank screen. I looked in the bios and loaded the default settings but still, nothing happens. I looked at the boot order and the 1tb Wd drive is detected so I'm wondering what is wrong?

I'm considering getting gpu and my psu is 550watts. My budget is 250-500 AUD.The non reference 960's are $330 AUD. But a r9 285 is roughly 30-50 less. A 290 is roughly 100 more and a 970 is 150 more. I have an i3 4340 so will these cards get bottlenecked. Secondly I'm not going to go to 4k for a while , so should I get a 960/285 now or get a 970/290 and keep them for a longer period of time? Thanks for any help

So I recently revived one of the two dead laptops in my house. However when I used my windows 8 pro upgrade key I realized that the other dead laptop had windows 8 installed but it had a dead hdd. So I am not able to deactivate windows on the laptop. Anyone know how to recover the windows 8 key or a cheap way to get keys? Cheers

Here is a good build if you aren't doing heavily cpu intensive tasks. In normal web browsing/most games, better single thread performance is more relevant. The fx 6300 is slightly ovverated for gaming. So I have a good amount of money in my bank and I'm going to buy a new PC for general use/photo editing/Light to medium gaming. 1)I live in Australia and I don't mind shipping things if it's (include shipping)though local dealers like cpl and pccg are preferred 2)I need windows, an IPS monitor and a keyboard and mouse preferably gaming. 3)If it can be fit I do like the look of the nzxt h440. So I was looking at steam os and got interested. Is this a tempting alternative to the consoles PS4,XB1 considering that the XB1 is $599 with titanfall and forza 5. Surely by now Intel would have seen how much praise that the 6300 is receiving.Would they think about making a new processor, bring an ivy bridge CPU to the 1150 socket or just cut the i3's prices?

Curious to know when the more powerful varaints will hit stores. Will they come before the end of this year? if so I might be able to build a system at the end of the year before my studies start. I guess AMD won't bring anything but price cuts this year?

If were to opt for the 6300 is the stock cooler good enough to handle a small over clock or will it be like a jet engine (sound level). Since Newegg ships to Australia now what is the cheapest motherboard to do light oc'ing

Wondering if the fx 6300 is worth the extra 10 bucks. Which one would be better for light gaming and normal web surfing (including 20 tabs on chrome). Also which one would be more future proof for heavier gaming 2 years later

So i was browsing dell's deals and one one of them was the alienware x51. Just out of curiosity I looked at some of the options when I found this option for a 760ti. I believe there is no 760ti available so is this just a mixup of the 780 ti?
