  1. Hi everyone, I just bought a 980 from Jet.com using the 15% off promo code (shopwith15 [max of $50 off]). I know that the big knock on the 980 has been the price point but given that I picked up an EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 for 420 (a little cheaper than a 390x at the time) and there are a few other solid options around the same price point with custom PCBs and after market coolers I thought this might be of interest to some of you. 2. I don't know if the same policy is effective in canada, but if it is part of the black November deals newegg has a price guarantee that if it appears for a lower price anytime through cyber monday they will refund you the difference.
  3. Hello I've been looking at a new graphics card and stumbled across this deal on an Acer 2560x1440 monitor. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16824009728 The problem is that buying the new monitor and a the graphics card I had originally planned on will most likely break my budget unless black friday really cuts prices on the 980. So instead of going for a 980 as originally planned I am thinking of going for a 970 Strix which is on super sale (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814121899). Will this be enough to power a 1440p for gaming? Any Advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Thanks for the advice. I was looking at the 390x from the red team, but I don't know if the 8gb of vram ("future proofing") would be worth the drop in performance.
  6. Hi everybody, I am upgrading from my 780 to a 900 series card and was looking for some advice. I am considering the below cards but I'm not sure the 980ti is worth the extra for me. I currently game on a 2560x1440 with a 40 in 1920x1080 as my second monitor. Mostly RPGs with mods cranked up or the occasional shooter. Thanks in advance. 8. Thanks for the quick responses. I was looking at a 27" 1920x1080 monitor because sadly my budget is about $400 not $700+. In the end I might go with something with a better pixel density like the new asus MX series or the Dell P series. I am leaning toward the Asus because of the bezelless design. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236310 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260059
  9. Hi guys, I'm looking at upgrading my graphics (either adding another 580 or going to a 770) but I'm also looking at upgrading my monitor. Right now I've got a 2 23" monitors (one IPS one not, both 1920x1080). I'm looking at upgrading to a pair of 27" monitors, but if I do I won't be able to do the graphics card upgrade for a while. So what do you guys recommend graphics upgrade or Monitor upgrade first?
  10. Well, I'd love to stick up for Microsoft as Bill Gates and the Microsoft were instrumental in creating the information age that relatively young people such as myself often take for granted. However, the truth is there isn't alot of innovation that Microsoft has to do. They own a 90% share of the OS market and frankly apple and linux will never make a dent in that, there is no need for microsoft to innovate in the OS market. As far as the console market they got over confident last generation with the Xbox 360 dominating the PS3 for the vast majority of generation and figured that domination would continue. Also things like DRM were solid ideas, however the implementation was so poorly done that it didn't matter. My biggest problem with Microsoft is the same problem I have with every company like Microsoft. When you beat all your competitors soundly and becoming king of the market in which you operate there is no longer any reason to continue to innovate until a competitor comes in to challenge. Our best hope for the future is Google continuing push Microsoft in core business components like Office and OS.
  11. I have looked at the define XL, I just wish it had a window (cable management on the back is terrible, in the front it's actually pretty good). I'd like to keep my next case for quite a while and eventually I'm going to try my hand at a custom loop, which I will want to show off. I will keep it in mind though, as a case window could be a relatively easy first case mod attempt.
  12. Hi everyone, I just upgraded to haswell, and am considering also getting a new case with usb 3.0 headers to take advantage. I have an original HAF 932 (The version with a bare metal interior, Bought it 3+ years ago) which I bought because it is easy for someone with big hands to work in and it had one of the better cable management systems around. I know cases have come a long way since I bought the 932, so what cases do you guys think are the easiest to work in? Either full or mid tower. I've considered the Fractal Define R4 with the window (its a real disappointment the XL doesn't come with a window) but I worry about going down to a mid tower case (My cable management is bad enough already :D )
  13. Most hated part in my rig... The rig itself. I just did a big update to Haswell from a 1366 platform (basically everything but my GTX 580). However my old HAF 932 (one of the old ones before black powder coated interior) remains as my case. Its a great case, however with usb 3.0 and the innovations brought to computer cases definitely stands out as the one piece of my rig that needs an update. (I want to update, but I can't really justify going to a smaller case (I already have enough difficulty doing cable Management in this beast) and something like the 900D or 800D is alot to spend just to get USB 3.0 support on the front pannel. Side Note: I'd also like to replace my monitor (LG 23" IPS that has a purple line of stuck pixels) with a 27" panel.
  14. Hey everyone thanks for the help diagnosing everything. I just got off the phone with Corsair and they said that the noise is likely the relay in the power supply which they added to get the HX series to 80+ Gold. The guy I spoke with experiences the same thing with his power supply (Peripherals dropping power for a half second) and that it is a "normal" thing. I appreciate everyone taking the time to help out the n00b. Special thanks to LED and YOYO for the help identifying the noise.
  15. Since I don't know what that refers to I'm guessing not. Edit. Thanks LED. I don't have one, It is just on a surge protector.
