  1. alright, seriously this is getting nowhere and going far off topic to what the post is intended for. I said I didn't want to go with AMD and yes I can go into detail on the experiences I have had and you will still have a response, but the thing is I'm still going to choose Intel for my build. Call me a fanboy or whatever and yes you do still get dodgy hardware whichever brand you go. Maybe I have just gotten really lucky with Intel/ Nvidia products and all my friends have had the same luck, but isn't it enough to just say all experience aside i want to waste my money on a trashy intel processor and be done with it because of faith that i won't have issues however biased or not it is. If you have something constructive to comment on the other parts of the build im all ears but can i just go with my own preference on getting an intel processor.
  2. And yet the thing is me and so many friends have been burnt by amd products and their drivers so many times now I'm honestly sick of hearing the whole AMD speech I have heard time and time again. The whole reason i originally went with amd stuff was that it was cheaper and the thing is each time I have had drivers fuck me over for many months and endless support chats with amd directly only to find out we don't know what the issue is because it should be working normally, replace the part and im out of warranty. Not to mention the hours of forum scrolling to find similar issues other people are having. I then go to an Intel system and to date i have not had anywhere near the number of issues or even having to worry about warranty. Yes, i would pay for something overpriced if i don't have to worry about whether my entire system or programs aren't going to work because amd drivers or hardware crashed them. Maybe i have been that open person that has just gotten bad product after bad product but when i can pay more and have a working product more or less guaranteed from my own experiences would i choose that for all the waste time trying to fix something that should just work.
  3. So the thing I thought that the 9700k is just a refresh of the 8700k that removes hyperthreading for a bit more single threading performance? The 9900k and 8700k still retain hyperthreading. Is there really any point in trying to go with a 9700k as i sort of came to the conclusion that the 8700k is still a better option than the 9700k but i then have to go back to an 8th gen motherboard to run an 8700k, which in Australia are on the way out. I want hyperthreading as I will use a shit ton of programs at the same time (endnote, Microsoft word, 20+ crome tabs for papers and big pdf documents).
  4. So going off your recommendations then: PSU: Is there much point in going higher than gold certification on the psu? i went with the titanium rating as I'm already spending a fair bit on hardware, but if the higher certification won't be much use and warranties are identical than that's no issue in going for a cheaper psu. Hard drives: if i wanted to i can still use the 2 old drives out of my current computer (840 evo 250 gb around 5 years old, m.2 960 evo 250gb, 2 years old and 1 tb wd black 7200rpm). I need extra storage so the 4tb drive is a minimum and had thought the WD red drive was aimed at long term storage. what does the Gold get you over the red? What is the benefits of going ot the hybrid barracuda drives over a tradition drive do they last as long? MOBO: what would I be loosing going for a model or two down the in gigabyte range? Case: The 750d has always been a solid option due to how nice they are to build with but are there more alternatives out there that are worth considering?
  5. I did say that im going to be doing more than just gaming otherwise i wouldnt bother with the i9. Although the idea of going with the i9 is that it should be on par with the top end i7 in the next intel generation and i dont really want to wait for 2020 to build a pc. Id rather over estimate on what i need rather than find out that i should have just gone with the extra investment down the line. Sure it is over kill for gaming but i also wont be upgrading this for atleast 6 or 7 years like my previous computers.
  6. Those things being said, i did say that i want to keep this an intel build. This may purely be a preference for Intel but i have had my fair share of amd products and driver issues and do not want to feature them in my build this time around. Is there any comments to be made on things that aren't cpu related as it will be an Intel build. Won't be doing anything till July at least with the pc so hopefully, intel will drop some prices or hints on cannon lake by that point.
  7. So my build at the moment is as follows: Core i9 9900k Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Thermal Grease 1.5ml Corsair Hydro Series H150i Pro 360mm Liquid CPU Cooler Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master Motherboard G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3200C14D-16GTZR 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2080 Aorus Xtreme 8GB Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium 850W Power Supply Samsung 970 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 512GB Western Digital WD Red 4TB WD40EFRX Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow Edition Case with Window My friend recently built his system with these specs and I'm pretty keen to upgrade my pc after 5 years of good use. Interested in going high end because I have the money to do this kind of build and be able to hold the gold medal of most powerful pc for people I know IRL for a month or so before my friend overclocks his pc to assert dominance lol. I am looking or advice on what I could do differently with the case and want to hear what other hardware suggestions people have as this is a copy paste build and I can't really find fault with it. The main thing is I want to keep the Intel brand as I haven't exactly had a great track record with amd stuff in my pc or pc's I have owned and at the moment I'm not really interested in going amd at the moment. While I will be using it for gaming I'm also planning on doing stats crunching and some other science/ data analysis program workloads (no idea what programs) for a bit as I'm a science honours student. Long term I really just want to build something powerful that I can hang onto for a long time like my current pc. Looking for recommendations on a 1440p 144hz IPS screen as well because why have something that powerful and not have a screen that can utilise it. I also do a fair bit of typing (science papers urgh) requiring a bit of screen real estate to have multiple pages open at the 1 time as I currently have 2 1080p 24-inch monitors (1 144hz benq and 1 60hz benq). Edit: For the sake of getting what im after im not going with an AMD cpu or GPU with this build. If you want to continue your AMD verse Intel arguments make a different thread and go nuts, but its not going in my build as i have already said this is an Intel build. Im all for waiting for the price drops when AMD introduces their new cpu which im waiting for regardless.
  8. ended up trying a bios flash and seems to have solved the issue thanks for the responses.
  9. alright so ill edit the main post and add this that i have tried a different power plug and to no a vale. So the pc when it boots up the fans all spin up and have ld no stuttering or flashing of the led in the fans to indicate the voltage dropping. and the pc when it boosts is running fine. ill run a bios update or try updating it if it is a bios issue and when booting during the trouble shooting it was saying it was having a bios reading issue but booted fine when defaulting to original settings. Also the video above i was using as a comparison it isnt my pc in the video and when i get time after work ill submit a video to get a clearer picture of whats going on. thanks for the interest and fast response times
  10. yeah alright ill try swapping the outlets as i dont have a spare psu around at the moment. although the thing is iwould have though if it was the psu it wouldnt boot up and work under load at all instead of sometimes booting and some times not.
  11. Hey guys Alright so the other night my pc started acting up and it blue screened and then instantly crashed a second after the BSOD and Started making a clicking noise from the Mobo speaker similar to the one in the video here So i though time to crack open the case and have a look and try removing parts to see if i had a dead piece of hardware or hard drive crashed and was dead. so far i have removed and tried different ram all the hard drives as i have 2 in my current rig to see if one was preventing it from posting, removing the gpu and network card down to just having the mobo ram and psu plugged in. problem is it was randomly posting some times and when trying to replicate the issue it ether would post twice and then not post making the clicking noise or not post making the clicking noise. I have come down to to be able to turn it on and use it i need to remove one of my 2 8gb sticks which both seem to be working fine to post it then if i shut it down i need to remove it to post and again if i shut it down put a stick back in to make it past the posting. So im thinking that it may be my motherboard being the issue and currently my pc seems to be fine if i dont turn it off not a long term solution however due to my windows 10 bsod frequently and need a second opinion. Build Specs i5 4670k with a corsair h75 all in one cooler and a clock speed of 4.2 ghz r9 290 windforce (being replaced with a 980 when it comes that was ordered the morning the issues started *sigh*) with base clock speeds mother board is a gigabyte h97-d3h 2 8GB cvorsair vengeance ddr 3 ram running at a 1333 mhz clock cause for some reason windows 10 wont let me change it to the 1666 speed corsair ccs 750m pwoer supply 1 samsung evo 840 250gb ssd 1 western digital black caviare 1tb drive
