  1. I snagged one for $80usd, for better or worse. Not a bad idea though.
  2. Yeah replacing chipsets it's going to be beyond me. Not attached to the board just to having a functioning computer. Probably chance ordering a "new" LGA1150 board off Newegg and hope for the best. Thank you!
  3. Good evening, I think the motherboard on my rig just died on me. It's an asus rog maximus vii gene. Power on and all the fans spin up (including GPU), HDD spins up and sounds just like a normal boot but there is no output to display. Tested an old GPU, same result. Either GPU in a different PCIE slot is the same result. I've pulled CMOS and held power for 30 seconds a few times with no change. The cherry on top is when I remove all RAM it still powers up the same and throws no error codes. I've also reseated all power to the board, removed peripherals and other drives etc. I'm assuming the motherboard is a goner, just thought I'd see if anyone had other ideas. Really not in a position to upgrade so hoping there's something I can do to revive this thing.
  4. I don't think the Intel HD drivers are installed. If so it would show as a Display Adapter in device manager right? That has actually helped a bit with the video playback while gaming, not much effect on the FPS though.
  5. I've got a PC with an i7-4770 and GTK 1060 6GB (32GB RAM). It used to run both of my 1080p displays with no issues and get 50-70FPS in most games I played. A few months ago I started getting half that FPS with it having serious issues playing videos (youtube, netflix, etc) on one monitor with a game on the 2nd. Using DDU and doing a clean install of Nvidia drivers fixed the issue until a computer restart happened then the issue would resurface. I assumed it was driver issues and did a clean/fresh install of windows... now the performance is worse than before with the driver reinstall not having any effect. I'm guessing this means my GPU is on its way out, but does anyone have any suggestions before I look into a GPU upgrade?
  6. I saw that too and gave the inside a good dusting, but no luck. The clean driver install fixes it every time. 1060 6GB
  7. Having an issue with (what I assume is) my graphics drivers. If I DDU uninstall and clean reinstall the most current driver for my card I get good FPS (60+) in games. As soon as I restart my PC it drops back to 10-15 FPS. Doesnt matter how intense or easy the game is to run. Anyone run into this and have a solution other than doing a clean install of my GPU driver after every reboot?
  8. My only experience is Ubuntu so I'm open to try whatever would be best. I'm not sure on the storage setup yet, currently I've got an old 40GB Intel 320 series SSD that I was planning on install the OS on with a 1TB 5400 RPM drive for storage, but over time I would like to buy 6TB NAS drives (Maybe WD Reds) for storage and it would probably be good to get a better SSD for the OS. Any recommendations on storage? Ill probably keep the minecraft storage separate from all the video.
  9. I recently acquired a used Dell Vostro with an i5-3450 and I've got 16GB of DDR3 to put into it. I would like to host a minecraft server off it for ~5-6 players as well as a plex server for home media. Through some light googling it seems like Unraid might be a good OS FreeNAS or Ubuntu to go with and then use docker on top of that, I've got some minor linux experience (basic stuff). I'm sure that plenty of people have done this already, are there any guides you would recommend? Is the hardware going to be sufficient? Edited: Not going the Unraid route.
  10. Looking for any advice/recommendations for a server host. The goal is to be able to host a Minecraft server for a couple friends to play on and a Rust server simultaneously. Is this a bad idea?
  11. Did you ever find a solution to this? Im having the exact same issue.
  12. For anyone who wants a conclusion, this is what I ended up getting approved and will order/build: PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Gh34HN Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Gh34HN/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel - Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($319.88 @ OutletPC) CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.89 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: MSI - Z270-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($99.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory ($148.98 @ Amazon) Storage: SanDisk - Ultra II 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($129.99 @ Best Buy) Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($66.88 @ OutletPC) Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Video Card ($154.99 @ B&H) Case: Corsair - 270R ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.11 @ Amazon) Power Supply: SeaSonic - G 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($68.59 @ SuperBiiz) Case Fan: CRYORIG - QF120 Silent 44.0 CFM 120mm Fan ($12.89 @ OutletPC) Case Fan: CRYORIG - QF120 Silent 44.0 CFM 120mm Fan ($12.89 @ OutletPC) Monitor: Asus - VP239H-P 23.0" 1920x1080 60Hz Monitor ($124.99 @ B&H) Total: $1234.07 The only thing that MIGHT change, is I want to try and get the 8700k and a Z370 board. Just cannot find them in stock anywhere in the US any leads?
  13. Definitely ready to buy, I've gotta take advantage of the opportunity before he changes his mind ha. If I can find the 8700k and a ~$100 mobo somewhere in stock I will order that. Thats good info on photoshop. I was thinking a 960 might actually be good to save a few bucks but maybe a 1050ti is a better option. The GPU is mostly to give me enough ports for 3 monitors and to help with Premiere. I'll make some adjustments to the PSU and less expensive RAM. My brother-in-law used a mac pro for years for his video business, told me he was going to upgrade and how much he was going to spend... convinced him to try out windows and save the $2500. He loves it, didnt have too hard of a time adjusting from mac to windows if you are worried about that at all. Good idea going with a smaller/cheaper SSD. It really only needs the OS and a handful of applications on it.
  14. I'd like to use the 8700k but what are the chances I can find a CPU or mobo in stock for a while ha.
  15. My boss finally agreed to let me replace the old iMac he's had me working on (hallelujah!) Going to go with a windows box. I dont have an exact budget but I'm going to try for $1,000 USD. Main uses of the system are heavy photoshop and illustrator, occasional premiere, and always 20-30 open tabs because a lot of my job is fixing our cloud based software and web design/coding. For aesthetics I just want to use a simple black case with no windows, glass or fancy lights. I've been looking for non-gaming branded hardware to save money. I also run 3 1080p monitors. I would like to use an i7 (i've been using an i7-2600k since it was released and its still going strong,) but considering AMD. Here is what I have so far, need to cut out about $300: PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TGwr4C Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TGwr4C/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel - Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($319.88 @ OutletPC) CPU Cooler: CRYORIG - H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.89 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: MSI - Z270-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($99.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($159.89 @ OutletPC) Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($169.88 @ OutletPC) Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($66.88 @ OutletPC) Video Card: EVGA - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB SC GAMING Video Card ($269.89 @ B&H) Case: Corsair - 270R ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.11 @ Amazon) Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.99 @ Amazon) Total: $1270.40 I'm going to try and find an itx case, motherboard, and low profile air cooler. I don't plan to overclock until I need to down the road.
