  1. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about using OpenCL with particular graphics cards. I'm building a new system, and will be doing some class work using OpenCL, so I want to know which graphics cards would be the best to put in my system. Thanks Wadeford.
  2. Hey all, I'm helping a friend build a new system, and he wants to run Virtualbox. I've never used it so I'm not sure what the system requirements are, so if anyone can help me out re: hardware specifications that would be awesome Wadeford PS. I totally know he should dual boot, but he doesn't want to, so... yeah.
  3. Thanks guys, that cleared that up! Now I just need to hunt down the cable My house is such a mess!
  4. Hi, I recently purchased an LG 27" FreeSync capable monitor, plus an R9 Nano. I'm currently using the HDMI cable included with the monitor, but I'm still experiencing tearing during some gaming. One, will FreeSync work if I use the HDMI ports on both the monitor and the graphics card, and two, if I were to instead use the mini DisplayPort port on the monitor and full DisplayPort port on the Nano, would it work then? Basically, do I absolutely need to use the DisplayPort ports on both monitor and card, or will FreeSync work with some other cable/port combination? Thanks all, Wadeford.
  5. I guess that would be 'avoid'?
  6. So clearly this is a PG version coz the real version would be inappropriate. Kiss, Marry, Avoid. Choose from the Linus Media Group hunks. Ok... go!
  7. That *would* negate the need for an additional hard drive to store media, which means I could use the extra space for a larger form factor graphics card. Interesting. Thanks! I'll look into it
  8. I've already got one in my gaming rig. If I get another one, it'll probably be next year when they drop in price so I can put it in crossfire with my current one It'd be cool to have another one NOW though.
  9. Actually, I don't know if the APU is doable. It's not super easy tracking down an appropriate form factor motherboard that supports one (where I live mind you), at least not without ordering from an overseas source. I'd consider a 1151 CPU perhaps, I can easily get a mini ITX board for one of those. How would you say the i5 6400 stacks up against comparable A10s?
  10. True. I've just fished out seven hundred dollars (Australian) for a Nano, so I'm trying to do this on the cheap I don't mind spending the cash on a good case and motherboard mind you. @papapoi, I hadn't thought about going with an APU, that's not a bad idea. To be honest I haven't spent much time looking into them, as for the last few months I've had an FX-8350 sitting on my desk waiting to go into my new gaming rig, so I've exclusively been focused on discrete graphics cards. But in the interest of space saving, it's worth looking into. Actually, if I can save money by not buying a graphics card, maybe I can get a better motherboard (I'd been considering the Asrock N3700 just to save a few dollars).
  11. Hey all, So I'm thinking about putting together a HTPC using one of Silverstone's slim cases (either one of the Raven's, but most likely the ML08). I want to put a HDD in to hold my media, but that doesn't leave me much room for a graphics card. I don't want to spend loads on one - this will exclusively be a HTPC as I already have a gaming rig - so with that in mind, what would you all recommend in terms of a small form factor graphics card which would fit into one of the above cases, leaving room for my HDD? Thanks Wadeford.
  12. Hey. Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the Gigabyte 970 motherboard when it comes to fast Ethernet connections. I just put one in a system and its as slow as all hell when it comes to downloading things from the Web. Specifically, I'm curious to know whether you've also noticed this issue in conjunction with a Windows 7 installation. I'm wondering if the Windows 7 drivers are the issue. Cheers. Wade
  13. Haha no that's not the download speed, i mean that 650 kilobytes have been downloaded, total.
