  1. Thank you, I know I am in the danger zone by looking to buy during the release week, how long do you think it will take before these problems will be discovered? Would it be fine to simply "wait a week" and see? (I will do that either way probably just to read the reviews)
  2. No worries - won't come screaming back in case it doesn't From all the times I had bought PCs, it seems like there is never a good time buying one... Thank you! Thanks for the comment, have there been any problems using software like Unraid or Linux dist. on new CPUs before? I haven't tracked that before.
  3. Thanks, I think I will have to use linux to handle all the parts, but I am sure I will find an alternative to spanned volumes there too! I guess transcoding will be needed for some devices, but most of the content will be 1080p or lower, I don't expect 4K downscalling all the time and if needed, it's okay to limit the other functionality for that time. It's good to know that the i5 should be enough, I will try to fit the i7 in if the budget allows. I will look up if there is a major power consumption difference between those. With going with the new CPUs, should I consider DDR5 or is it too OP for my use-cases? Looks great, thanks! I forgot they had new models, the "boxed" HDD cage could also help with soundproofing by the looks of it. Will read more about it. Space is not an issue, so I am not considering HTCP or anything like that.
  4. Thank you all for the comments! RAID: Thanks, definitely will consider it. I am planning full backup periodically on seperate device + random offsite backups, so I am trying to just eliminate technical failiure here. RAID: Thanks you, same comment as above. Do you think maybe I don't need to use RAID at all? CPU: I would say 2x 1080p or 1x 4K ocassionally max. But the camera streams (1080p 2x) could also add to that. Case: Yes, great point. I think with Fractal R5 + some Noctuas the loudest things would be the HDDs. Do you have any better tip? ECC: Thanks, I won't pursue that then.
  5. Budget (including currency): 1500 USD (excluding storage HDD) Country: US links are fine Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Media server, storage server, Smart Home Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hello everyone! I am looking to build a home server with several use-cases: 1) Media server probably using Plex to stream across devices 2) Storage server for backups (Will probably add 2x6 TB in RAID 1 or 3x6 TB in RAID 5) 3) Some smart home & work scripts, which should run continously, but should be too load-heavy. I expect 1GB of RAM tops 4) Camera monitoring, I liked the recent LTT video which uses Google Coral to do people recognition etc. Might add that later. I am mainly looking for CPU recommendation, I was waiting for the new Intel CPUs, but wanted to confirm that they are suitable for my use case. CPU should have integrated graphics so I can connect it to TV, if that's not totally stupid idea. Should I consider ECC RAM? Am I missing something important? I don't want to rack mount it at the moment so normal PC case is fine. (Probably Fractal R5) Thank you for your help and please let me know if I missed anything!
  6. Hi! Budget (including currency): 1000 USD Country: Czechia / I can check availability myself Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Clip Studio Paint, old games like Life is Strange, streaming drawing Other details - Complete build - I am considering buying without GPU and adding it later when prices drop. Would iGPU handle my requirements? - WiFi either on board or external - No overclocking - No need for RGB - If there is a good reason I can increase the budget Let me know if there is anything that I have missed and thank you!
  7. @Pangea2017 Okay, thanks for info. Do you remember what library did you use? I would give it a try.
  8. @Pangea2017 Sorry, pasted the wrong tutorial, could you please take a look at the correct one, I could make that one work because the python script had some issues with matplotlib. (I didn't forget to install it ) Thanks for help. I will be running some sort of server on it later, and I also don't have anything else.. Here is a screenshot of output:
  9. Hi, I am trying to control my windows sun blinds using RPi and 433MHz transmitter and receiver. This is the controller provided by manufacturer: http://www.simu.com/en/products/product-sheet/?id=2007348 On the page it says: Radio Frequency 433.42 So I used the information and followed this tutorial: http://www.instructables.com/id/RF-433-MHZ-Raspberry-Pi/ The managed to get many received values, but nothing appeared when I tried to capture the value from controller. Did I make some wrong assumptions, or is it just some weird error? Thanks for help.
  10. Hi, what do you think is best/funniest LTT ad? Intro, outro, WAN show sponsors, sponsored video, anything... Thank you for tips.
  11. Thank you. I found http://www.benq.us/product/monitor/pd2700q, what do say about it please?
  12. Thanks for that info, I don't play games much, but I don't know if I want this kind of discomfort when I play them. Do you have please any other tips?
