  1. Hi guys, I picked up a Lenovo Legion 5 with an R7 5800U and RTX 3070 to replace my 5 year old desktop. I do wish to reuse my monitors along with all the other peripherals that I've used with my desktop: - Keyboard --> USB A - Mouse --> USB A - Microphone --> USB A - Camera --> USB A - Dualsense --> USB A - Headphones --> 3.5mm audio - Monitor 1 --> DP/HDMI - Monitor 2 --> DP/HDMI I'm looking into picking up a dock for it, however I'm wondering whether my two monitors will work over the single USB C connection to the laptop since it doesn't support Thunderbolt. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Docking-Station-Multiport-Ethernet-Transfer-14-1/dp/B09152N23V Does anyone know whether the monitors will work via the dock without Thunderbolt?
  2. Cheers. I had a look at the ZBook Create last night which is £3000, way out of budget. XPS is looking like the best option here
  3. Hey all, Looking for some advice here. I'm planning to buy a laptop for college - mechanical engineering. I plan to take my PC, but I also plan to get a laptop for when I'm mobile. I've not bought a laptop since 2013 so wondering where I should start? The laptop needs to be able to run Inventor Pro, AutoCAD, Fusion 360 (not that hard to run anyway), Maya, Rhino etc. Ideally with a dedicated GPU and a decent processor. Maybe a bit of Rocket League every once in a while but gaming is absolutely not the core focus - that's what my PC is for. Budget is around £1500 GBP but of course less is better. Since I've got my PC for gaming, I really don't want a "gaming" laptop with RGB lights, sharp edges and that gamer aesthetic. Something tame and non-descript would be pretty ideal, a mor professional understated design rather than big and bold. I like the look of HP ZBooks since we use them at work but I'm not a huge fan of HP. Any advice guys?
  4. No, my motherboard does not support overclocking. In regards to the bottlenecking, I've constantly seen my CPU reaching full load whilst the GPU sits in the 30% range in titles such as GTAV and Deus Ex Mankind Divided. So it'd be better just outright buying a new CPU/Mobo combo?
  5. I've been running an i5 6400 since I built my PC and run it along side a 1060 6GB. I run all my games at 1080p and do a lot of CAD. I don't plan to buy an entirely new PC until DDR5 RAM and AMD releases their 5nm CPUs since I don't think it's worth buying a new PC in the current climate. The weakest part of my PC, the CPU, could do with an upgrade though. I've found an i7 7700k for £175. Would it be worth it? This way it's not too expensive and I can also keep my same motherboard and cooler. Thanks!
  6. Yeah, I just give prices in USD since it's pretty universal. I'm going to get a 7700k used. Easy job and should be good.
  7. I'm in the market for a new CPU. Currently rocking an i5 6400 with 1060 6GB. My GPU is bottlenecked massively by my CPU. My current motherboard only supports Kaby Lake and Skylake. Prices for the i7 7700, used, are extrodinarily high right now, around $250 USD. I'm sure a Ryzen and a new motherboard would be cheaper as well as outperform it. What suggestions do you guys have? Current build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/AgentL3r/saved/YZ3t6h
  8. Thanks! Yeah I'm trying to keep costs down, so I'd probably keep my motherboard.
  9. I built my current PC back in 2016 and have slowly been upgrading it since. Here are the current specs: PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel Core i5-6400 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Processor CPU Cooler ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO CPU Cooler Motherboard Asus H170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Memory Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Memory Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Storage SanDisk SSD PLUS 240 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive £38.00 @ Amazon UK Storage Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive £36.97 @ CCL Computers Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6 GB SC GAMING Video Card Case Corsair SPEC-02 ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply SeaSonic PRIME Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit £99.00 @ Amazon UK Monitor AOC G2460VQ6 24.0" 1920x1080 75 Hz Monitor £142.99 @ Amazon UK Monitor AOC G2460VQ6 24.0" 1920x1080 75 Hz Monitor £142.99 @ Amazon UK Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total £459.95 Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-05-04 16:27 BST+0100 It seems that the system is severely bottlenecked by the CPU, so I thought it would be worth upgrading. It doesn't seem worth getting a new motherboard since I'm on a budget and was going to buy a used CPU. What do you guys think will be worth it? I'm thinking a 6700. The motherboard is not OC compatible. Thanks!
  10. Realtek drivers. Nope, doesn't seem to have auto impedence.
  11. 8/100 on the Windows volume setting. Sorry, should have been clearer.
  12. I stripped and rebuilt my PC about a week ago along with wiping my SSD and HDD along with a fresh install of Windows 10. Now, I noticed that my audio is incredibly loud. Even on "8", my audio is super loud, whereas before I rebuilt it was comfortable. I'm using Sennheiser 598SRs with the adaptor to 3.5mm audio, and an Asus H170 Pro Gaming motherboard. Audio drivers are up to date. What's gone wrong here?
  13. 32GB RAM because I usually have a ton of stuff open, and I also do a lot of CAD/3D modelling/simulations, so it wouldn't hurt. A 1060 is enough? I've been playing a few games and I haven't been able to max out graphics and get a high FPS. GTA V, Watch Dogs 2, mainly open world sandboxes. Any modern title. I'll look into it, what's it's performance comparable to? Which games? I current have a GTX 1060 and an i5 6400 with 16GB RAM. Interesting.
  14. I was planning to use a 2080ti, but then realised that it's absurdly overpowered for 1080p. My monitors are 75hz, so I'd need to exceed 75 FPS consistantly at 1080p in all titles. I was planning on a 2070 Super. What others could I go for? I'll be using a 3600x with 32GB RAM.
  15. So I've been running the stock cooler for about 3 years now. Thought it might be time to give it an upgrade. My current build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/AgentL3r/saved/YZ3t6h I'd like something that's bang for the buck. Not too expensive, but will get the job done. Any advice?
  16. Every year I like to do a cleanup of my PC. Open it up, clean everything, wipe my drives and install Windows fresh. My usual method is to just use the "delete" option within the advanced section of the media creation tool when first setting up Windows. I just had a thought. Is this enough? Or is it worth doing a deeper clean. And if so, how do you recommend I do it?
  17. Hello guys, First of all I would like to say merry Christmas and hope you are all having a good time! So in 2020 I'm planning to build a new PC. My current PC is an i5 6400 with a GTX 1060 6GB. I'd like to upgrade to something significantly more powerful, and at that point I'd rather build an entirely new PC. Budget? £2000-£3000, no real budget. I'll be using it for gaming (games like Cyberpunk, Death Stranding), 3D Modelling, CAD, Rendering, VFX and CFM simulation work. I was thinking maybe Threadripper with a 2080ti? Not sure. I'll keep the same PSU - 650W Seasonic Prime. I'd also like it to be as silent and stealth as possible. No RGB, none of that fancy stuff. A nice, clean build that's silent. Where should I start? Or should I wait for new releases? Thank you!
  18. So my friend is studying Mathematics at university and she is looking for a new laptop. She was going to buy an iPad, but I ensured her not to as she would find a laptop more beneficial. These are her requirements: - Play lightweight videogames (mainly osu! and League of Legends) - Media consumption (k-dramas, anime, Netflix and movies) A touchscreen would also be quite useful. Budget is £1000. Any ideas guys?
  19. I'm an engineering student and a laptop would greatly help with school. I'm not too sure what to buy though. Of course, being a student, the budget is quite low at around £500. I'll mainly be doing CAD, watching media, using Discord and Spotify. I heard Lenovo was pretty good. Any ideas?
  20. Currently rocking the Motorolla Moto G5. I love this phone to bits but it's time that I upgrade. I was offered the choice of the OnePlus 6T or the Note 9, both for the same price. Which would you guys get and why? The phone will mainly be used for content consumption as well as media (as well as a lot of communication). Thanks.
