  1. I've done a fair amount of research into this recently.... Disclaimer: My statements are based solely on research, and off the top of my head so excuse any errors. First of all, only the dell is an IPS. Why are you using gaming displays for color work? TN panels are notoriously bad for color reproduction as well as calibration. I've read that every time you run in on a TN you will get different results. That said. It depends. It doesn't sound like you need a truly professional solution. I personalty just ordered the Color Monkey Display. It is a high quality unit with an ambient sensor and can use aftermarket calibration software to take it to the next(professional) level if you so desire. The next step up would be the i1D3 or a step down would be the Spyder5Express(has ambient sensor but disabled).
  2. OMG, G-Sync is awesome... I'm not even hitting 144 in ESO and its so much more smooth than on my 120hz. And that color!!! IPS 4 LIFE SON! I can't say about the res yet as I went from 1080 to 4k back to 1080 and now 1440. So all I can say is this is nicer than the 1080 but not sure how I feel compared to 4k. Gonna let this thread die now, as I have started another thread for my new monitor but for anyone wanting to know I'm happy I went with this over the X34.
  3. My thread might help http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/529541-4k-ultra-wide-or-144hz-do-i-even-want-g-sync/ You are basically deciding between Ultrawide and Refresh rate, which do you want more? Also there is a $500 price difference. PS> Until yesterday you couldn't even preorder the x34 because of previous recalls. I got a notice that Amazon is now taking pre orders for 1-2months estimate. That said, My order for my XB1 said Feb 28th, and 2 days later was updated to Jan 29th, and it arrived today(Jan 27th)
  4. So! Got my new display today and wanting to make sure I test everything out while I can still send it back to Amazon. So far I've found one pixel that stays red on a white screen but not on a black screen. It looks like its green and blue sub pixels are dead. Is there a way to fix this? I've read you can only fix stuck ones. As far as Bleed and Glow.... On a black screen I notice some on the lower left edge and a lager(but less bright) area in the lower right corner. I adjusted the ISO on my phone cam to take pics that represent the most what I actually see with my eye, the auto-iso captured much more than I can actually see. Do you guys think I should re-roll or just go with it ??
  5. I was in love with it for 2 reasons, productivity on one monitor(use 3 for work currently) and for games like Star Citizen especially. The reasons I ruled it out(after being so in love with it).... 1. Because I'm getting a Rift(or depending on the VIVE price, canceling that preorder and getting a VIVE, lol) 2. I use several apps with several windows across 3(sometimes 4 screens.) VS2015, Unity(multiple windows), couple of browser tabs, etc. And on ultra wide, I could still only really snap 2 windows on the screen next to each other, they were just a bit wider. Side note: 4K was amazing for coding and unity and browser windows. But I was using 150% scaling to make things usable without eye strain, so this is part of the reason I went to 1440. The same real estate as 4k at 150%. Correct it was the newer 'E' model. And I don't think it was going to 30hz, but maybe. I google Samsung 4k flicker issue and a bunch of stuff came up so I just assumed that was it and immediately requested the return, lol. PS> My first* PC monitor was a Samsung and so was my first* HDTV. I absolutely love the brand and they are both really old now and still work great. I just wish they had a g-sync option. *that I bought myself
  6. I was running Fallout 4 at 4k on 2 980s(not its) and it was totally playable with some fps issues with the gforce optimal settings. Which are far from maxed out on 4k. I believe fallout's biggest issue is shadows and fullscreen shaders/effects(always an issue on 4k) and at the time I decided to lower settings even more to maintain. I don't have the 4k anymore so cant tell you for sure, but here are the optimized settings currently for DSR 4k:
  7. OK well I figured it out. I had considered it was my mouse, but was getting smooth courser moment so I dismissed it. I noticed in the video that all mouse movement seemed a little off so I dug out another mouse and tried it and instant fix. I REALLY feel like a dumbass because it's a new mouse and I should have tried that sooner but I thought I knew better, lol. Anyway, it's the new Mamba and like my Naga(out for RMA, reason I have the new mouse) it works wired or wireless. Well it appears the wireless on the Mamba is what's doing it. Gonna do more testing but I think its also doing it some in wired mode, albeit MUCH less, because I have my other mouse at the same DPI and it seems smoother. But maybe I'm just moving it smoother because I like the grip better , lol.
  8. Small back story.... I bought a 4k display and was not happy at 60fps. I returned it and have a 1440p/144hz on order. I'm messing around with optimizing some games using my 1080p/120hz for when it arrives. I have been tweaking ESO and got things really nice then I noticed terrible stuttering when moving the mouse while strafing. I tested in TF2 and Fallout 4 and sure enough its doing the same thing. I've played with settings(res, vsync, etc), although not extensively yet, and nothing seems to change it. I did do some small global things suggested for optimizing ESO on reddit.... I used a utility to "unpark" my cpu. I made some changes in the global Nvida settings which I reverted with the "Restore" button. The only changes I went back to where to add some DSR factors and change DSR smoothing to 15%. 2x SLI 980s, 4790k stock turbo
  9. Yea that's the one. I've never been super into or read up on display tech so I might be wrong about the actual issues I had. On a dark screen, you could see about a 5-10mm boarder around the edge of the screen. From what I've read I assume that is BLB. I also see this on the TN I'm on now but much less so. Also, if I were to use Unity or a webpage with a grayish background, it would "flicker" really bad. I tried all sorts of settings to no avail.
  10. Samsung UE590 by chance? Shipped mine back today. I had terrible BLB and flicker issues. As for waiting it out, I probably wont get new cards for a year or more. And I've never really had a good display. I'd rather get more monitor at a lower res for the same money, if that makes sense. I think the 1440 144 ips a good choice for me at this time. I can't seem to find any info on them supporting freesync.
  11. Right, I was just saying, and this is all obvious, but I noticed a huge diff going form 4k to 1080. I'm hoping that the 1440 is "better enough" for me. ;-)
  12. So yea, boxed up my 4k samsung for return to amazon and hooked my gen1 3d vis monitor. At first I didn't notice a dif in windows on 120 vs 60 but I think something was wrong. Because I disabled my other displays and noticed it was set back to 60 so I set it to 120 again and windows seems smoother than on 60 for sure. I ran a game and right away noticed the clarity difference. It looks like 4k without AA is better than 1080p with AA. And I am noticing the higher frame rate slightly but its not as dramatic as the res difference. I'm obviously gonna reserve judgment until I get my new one but I'm sort of worried I'll end up wanting to go back to 4k. I can always return again I suppose, lol. ANYWAY, I have a 271HU on pre-order with Amazon. Fingers crossed I get a good one, and that I am satisfied with it over 4k.
  13. Well, I wouldn't go with the x34 as Amazon is only selling though 3rd party, newegg isn't selling it at all, and it was recalled from stores. But correct, at first I was in love with ultra wide then my practical side plus testing in games on this 60hz 4k. Once I was thinking about it, I could really see where the 144hz would come into play. Which is mainly when you move your mouse around a lot, lol. And I decided I'd rather be able to crank the settings and have a really smooth image. It's sort of like an SOE effect but not uncomfortable or jarring because it's in a 3d environment where you don't expect the "cinematic" look from 2d content. On that note, I am actually currently able to rock really high settings and stay solid 60 on 4k, but not always and I just don't wanna have to fiddle with shit to crank out the pixels fast enough.
  14. These are in my top two as well. I read somewhere the Acer has a "better panel retention method" and I also prefer it's looks to the Asus so probably going with the 271 myself.
