  1. I think i might be, my runs are super inconvenient. Presuming I did, what could I do to repeat the signal?
  2. So to be sure, if I go 100m (i have CAT6), only then would I need to repeat the signal, correct?
  3. I wanted to see if i could get some information about proper procedure when it comes to network repeating setups. I'm currently in the process of extending my networking to a new part of the house, which is gonna add a significant length of copper to my setup. My current setup is as follows: ISP Router > TP Link 100mbps switch > wireless router and computer. What I wanted to know was: At what point would I need to repeat my copper signal to maintain maximum speeds? If I needed to repeat the signal, does a router/switch act as a repeater or does that require special equipment? Thanks for helping out!
  4. I also wanna make sure there are no bottlenecks because if I'm spending this much, I need to get 100% out of it
  5. I have a decent budget, but I just wanna make sure I make the right choices. Also yeah, I'm a bit apprehensive about the current Threadripper because the Zen 2 launch is on the horizon and I'd be much more comfortable with 2nd generation product that 1st gen. It's basically why I'm more inclined towards Intel right now but they got their own problems, what with the exploits and things
  6. I'm just headed off to film school to study VFX and design and I've been told I need a little bit of a beast of a machine, as that machine is probably gonna last me in my professional career as well. I've basically been biting my nails over i9 vs i7 vs Xeon vs Ryzen vs Threadripper as I require great render times more than anything else. Nothing beats Threadripper but then I'd be giving up a lot of flexibility in regards to upgrading later on. I've already decided on 32 gigs of RAM and loads of storage but the heavy hitters have got me a little jittery. Also, about the graphics, RTX vs GTX? Is RTX recommended for creating more than gaming? Is GTX the way to go on that front? I would really like some advice
  7. Why does everyone call a computer case a "CPU"? IT'S ANNOYING! The CPU is inside the case, it IS NOT the case.....
  8. Recently, my hard disk drive went through a crash. After rebooting, I discovered that the boot order was wrong and I had to boot to the UEFI drive (which, incidently, was the one that crashed. I don't exactly know what a drive labelled "UEFI" entails). After booting, Windows started up Automatic Repair and took a while before i selected "Exit and boot into Windows 10". It booted fine, but it took nearly 10 minutes total. I can't remember what the error code was. I don't think it's a virus, so is my hard drive failing? Do I need to replace it with an SSD? I don't know what to do, I'm very unsure. Please help!
  9. I wanna know your opinion about game piracy, which was briefly discussed by Luke and Linus on the Jan 15th WAN show. I'm from India and if you take a look at the state of my currency (INR), you will understand why most people here who know how to pirate games do it. I agree that by pirating games, we are doing a BIG disservice to the development studios who make them and that's important (I know because I'm a game developer myself), but every AAA title these days costing along the lines of 60 USD, it's very difficult to actually buy these games on Steam or Origin or whatever other platform. To put it in perspective, as of today (Jan 16 2016 in India), 60 USD is about 4070 INR. Paying that kind of sum is not easy, especially as India is a pre-dominantly poor country (even though it's listed as a developing nation). Physical discs do cost less, but there have been instances where I have bought a retail copy of a game just to find that it gives me some sort of read error (a good example would be the 7-disc box for GTA 5 which is currently sitting on a shelf gathering dust and which I blew 3000 INR on). So I wanna know, what do you guys think about it?
