  1. Hello I seem to be having problems setting up Nvidia Surround for my two monitors. I have a Samsung U28E590D and an Asus VG248QE monitor both connected to my gtx 1080 graphics card with two display port cables. My Samsung monitor is setup as the left monitor and my Asus monitor is setup as the right monitor. I have both monitors set at a 1920x1080 resolution at 60hz. The monitors work fine together when I extend their displays and do web browsing and other things on one giant screen. However, I cannot do this when playing a game so I tried to configure a screen span in Nvidia Surround. I have the Samsung U28E59D setup as my primary monitor and to the left of my Asus VG248QE monitor. Despite the Samsung monitor being labeled as primary, my computer registers it as number '2'. Whenever I try to use the Nvidia Surround tool however, one of four things happens:1. When I have the screens setup as '1-2', the Samsung screen will lose it's connection through display port and the Asus monitor will appear as the 'left' monitor.2. When I have the screens setup as '2-1' in Nvidia surround, the Samsung monitor displays the 'right' screen and the Asus monitor displays the 'left' screen.3. Occasionally it won't detect either of my monitors and state "not enough displays for surround".4. Nvidia Surround CrashesI know that I could just use the '2-1' monitor setup and switch the positions of the two monitors, but I'm thinking about later buying another Asus VG248QE monitor to place to the left of my Samsung monitor for a triple monitor display with the biggest monitor in the center in addition to allowing my to easily play at 4k without moving displays. I also do not understand why the Samsung monitor is labeled as '2' by my computer. Even if I disconnect the Asus monitor and reconnect it, Samsung is still labeled as '2' and Asus is labeled as '1'.Does anyone have any suggestions of what could be the problem? Here are my PC specs if it helps: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/BNWilliams007/saved/Yg2CmGThank you for your time.
  2. Hello, I was just given this refurbished monitor as a gift: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-U28E590D-28-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00YD3DBOC/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1475027635&sr=1-1&keywords=samsung+4k+28+inch+monitor However, I wanted to be sure to test it as best as I can before I tear off the tape/stickers and throw away the receipt. I ran tests for dead pixels but I didn't see anything to be concerned about when I ran the tests. Besides dead pixels, is there anything else that I should be concerned about though? I took a look at the Blur Busters website but I don't even understand what exactly I should be looking for when I run the tests? I plan to use this monitor for gaming, artwork, and content creation. I'm also having trouble getting my new 4k monitor display to extend to my Asus VG248QE 1080p display. Both monitors are connected to my Gtx 1080 graphics card by their own displayport cable, but whenever I go into the 'Display Settings' and select extend displays, my display is instead duplicated and my mouse only appears on my 1080p monitor even when I lower the 4k monitor's resolution to 1080p. Am I doing something wrong? I also hope to add another Asus VG248QE monitor in the near future to make a triple monitor setup, this should be possible right? Here is a link to my PC specs if that helps: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/BNWilliams007/saved/Yg2CmG Thank you for your time.
  3. Thank you everyone for your responses I feel a little more relieved now knowing that once OC'd every card is pretty much in the same ballpark. I've decided that if the Gigabyte Xtreme isn't available by the end of this week then I'll just buy the EVGA FTW, Zotac Amp Extreme, or the Asus Strix, which ever becomes available the soonest. Oh I did have one more question, is the Asus Strix 1080 OC worth buying over the regular edition? I understand the OC just means that it was further overclocked at the factory of manufacture, but would it be better to just buy the regular version and OC it myself to save some money? Or is the OC'd version always ahead of the regular version?
  4. Hello, I plan to buy a gtx 1080 card soon since they are beginning to finally come in stock, however, with such a high price tag and so many models to choose from, I want to make sure that I get the best bang for my buck. With a gtx 1080, I hope to do VR and 4k gaming and am considering running an sli config down the road but for now I only can afford a single GPU. I was planning on waiting for the Gigabyte gtx 1080 Xtreme to come back into stock but it is taking forever and I'm beginning to lose my patience and may just end up buying another model. The reason why the Gigabyte gtx 1080 Xtreme is number 1 on my list is because I heard nothing but good things about the Gigabyte 980 ti Xtreme, in addition, the card comes with a 5.25" bay for VR headsets and a HB sli bridge which will come in handy if I want to sli in the future. If I couldn't get a Gigabyte 1080 Xtreme, then my next choice would the Zotac Amp Extreme, following the Asus Strix, and the EVGA FTW. Unfortunately though, there isn't all that much information about the Gigabytre Xtreme due to the low stock but I wanted to get other people's opinions if it's still worth waiting for Gigabyt, or if I should just get another card instead? EVGA has great customer service so I was tempted to buy their card, however, I have seen benchmarks where it lost to the Zotac Amp Extreme so I'm unsure of which card would be best for me. http:// My case should be large enough to fit any of these cards as I have a high tower case. I assume, the longer the card, the better the cooler and performance it has right? This would make the Gigabyte Xtreme or the Zotac Amp Extreme the winner right? I'm still a newbie to PC building and built my first rig a couple months ago, now all I need is a GPU but I'm unsure of which one to get. Here is my component list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/BNWilliams007/saved/Yg2CmG And I already took a look at this list: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3047729/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1000-series-megathread-faq-resources.html#17902597 Here I can see that the Zotac Amp Extreme has the highest clock speed but are there other areas that the other GPUs have over Zotac that I should be concerned with or am overlooking such as customer service, thermal throttling, sli scaling, etc? Thank you for your time.
  5. I just checked the Asus z170 Deluxe webpage and it does in fact have fan controlling software called Fan Xpert 3. I'll do some research on this software right now, from the looks of it, I probably won't have to buy a NXZT fan controller after all. Thank you again for your feedback everyone.
  6. Oh ok, I'll have to read and learn what a fan curve is. I assume Asus's software would probably function better than Speedfan though?
  7. Thank you for your feedback everyone. I'll check out the Speedfan software since it sounds ideal for setting up before podcasts. Although regarding controlling fans in the bios, is it normally not possible to change the fan settings after I've tweaked them in the bios once I've already booted into Windows? For example, if I booted into bios and put the fan speed to 3000 rpm for maximum cooling when gaming and then if I wanted to record a small podcast and lower my fan rpm to reduce fan noise, would I have to restart my computer and boot back into the bios and lower the rpm, or is there a simpler way with the bios method?
  8. Hello, I wish to make a build with 7 noctua rpm 3000 fans to assure maximum cooling performance. However, I understand that this would result in loud fan noises which is why I would like to connect them to a fan controller. I don't really care about dealing with loud fan noise when I'm gaming or doing content creation, but I would like my computer to be as quiet as possible when I'm using my microphone in tasks such as podcasts. My problem however are the pin connectors. From my understanding, the Noctua fans that I'm looking at have a 4-pin connection while the NZXT Sentry 3 controller has a 3-pin connection. In addition to this, I want to have 7 fans while the Sentry only has 5 connectors. This would mean that I would have to buy a 4pinx3pin cable splitter right? Would either of these two cables work? I would like to find a "y" cable spliter where I can connect at least two fans to a single connector on the fan controller.http://www.amazon.com/Phobya-4-Pin-Molex-Connector-Conn...http://www.microcenter.com/product/341752/Akasa_PWM_3-w...Here is a link to my planned build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XKs7rH Also, is the NZXT Sentry 3 generally better than the NZXT Sentry LX? Thank you for your time.
  9. I've used less than 100gb on my HDD so hypothetically would I still be able to clone my HDD to my SSD or would it still be better just to back up my HDD and SSD, format the drives, and reinstall Windows 10 on one of my SSDs? Also, do people normally say that raid 0 is never a good idea because you may lose all you data if the drive fails? Is that the worst that could happen? Is there still any speed improvement in raid 0?
  10. Hello I'm planning on installing two Samsung 840 pro 256gb SSD drives into my new desktop PC in order to improve it's boot time. I have two SSD drives in my laptop that are just a little over a year old and thought that they would be better used in my desktop. The first drive is about half way full. The second drive is empty. My desktop already has a 1TB HDD that I plan to demote to a storage drive. My questions: 1) Would it be possible to clone my HDD to my first SSD without removing all the content on the SSD? Or will I have to format and delete everything on my SSD if I want to use it on my desktop? If the former, would this tool come in handy? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HJZJI84?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 2) Since I have two SSD drives, would it be a good idea to use them in Raid 0? I've been asking around and have been receiving mixed answers of whether or not it will be beneficial. Some say it will increase PC performance, others say I'll receive no increased performance and that it is not recommended. And I understand that if one drive fails then the data will be lost on both drives, but I regularly backup my files on an external hard drive so this isn't a big risk to me. 3) I also had a quick off topic question, when cleaning out dust inside of a computer, is it safe to use a toolkit brush as an alternative if you don't have a compressed air can? I just ordered a toolkit to help me start working on my computers. The brush that I'll be using appears at 3:09 in this video https://youtu.be/t23494l6ZOA?t=3m9s Here is my desktop PC and partlist if it'll help: http://www.frys.com/product/8524889 http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MhLpf7 Thank you for your time.
