  1. If anyone making his own research end up in this thread, nope dont get the toshiba. Big mistake. The drive is really noisy, fairly slow, lost 5% health by just copying less than a terabyte of data, and most importantly is not stable. When i stress it by extracting a rar file, and download games from steam at the same time it just freezes. The HDD goes completely silent, and everything that isn't installed in my SSD freeze. The drive also disappears from task manager. The only way to fix it?(other than restarting the pc). Removing the sata power connector and reconnecting it. I already dropped it at the store that i bought it from and they claim that the drive is fine and that i cannot get a refund or a replacement. Which is absolute bs because using the same cables and sata port, i tested 2 older hard drives and they are perfectly fine. Don't waste your money. Get something better.
  2. It always is. I'm just worried about reliability. Thanks guys. Going for the toshiba drive
  3. Hello guys. So i am in the need for some space, and i'm in the market for a hard drive. Right now in my country(Greece), i can get either a Seagate Barracuda 2TB (ST2000DM006), or a Toshiba 3TB (DT01ACA300) for almost the same price. I never had any toshiba drives, but two of my friends did (1TB drives), and they both failed about 6 months later. What do you guys think? Both drives come with a 2 year warranty.
  4. Hello guys. So i have a lot of old spare hardware, and i've been thinking of making a teamspeak server to use with my friends. I'm pretty sure that the hardware can handle a 5-6 slot server(p4 2.8ghz non ht, 512mb ram). So one of my problems is that i dont have a spare IDE HDD to use on the system, and if i had, i wouldnt want to use it because it would be noisy. I am going to place it somewhere near my router, without any monitor, mouse or keyboard. So i would like to have a way to control it from my main computer. So in a nutshell i would like to: 1)Be able to run the system from just a usb stick 2)Be able to control the system from my windows 10 pc 3)Of course run a teamspeak server 4)Configure the system in a way, that it will boot and start the server, and the remote control thingy, in case of a power outage My barely have any linux knowledge, so any help would be appreciated. I am thinking about puppy. What do you guys think?
  5. its already overclocked at 850mhz(stock freq is 725mhz). if you mean to oc when it gets stuck, i already have tried, and nothing happens. the clock just stays on 405mhz no matter what. increasing the voltage makes no change either
  6. Hello bois. So i have this gtx480, for about a year now. And it used to be fine. But for the last 3-4 months i have an issue. It will randomly get stuck on 2D clocks(405mhz, 968mvolt)! Launching a game changes nothing. It will just run on low clocks, and of course low fps. The only way to fix it, is to restart my PC. So i tried to reinstall the latest driver(used DDU to wipe the old driver), and i still have the same issue. I also tried to install an older driver(368.81), and issue is still here. I removed the card, cleaned it and applied fresh thermal paste(MX4), and also checked my PSU with a multimeter. Everything seems to be fine, and i dont understand why this is happening. Oh! And of course, i also tried to run it on stock clocks(OC 850Mhz, 1100mvolt). Still nothing. Hell i even tried run my CPU on stock clocks. Still nothing. Its so weird because it happens randomly. It might not happen for 6hours straight, it might happen 10mins after i turn my PC on. Any ideas? Thanks! ps. i forgot to say that the bios is the original by evga. i did NOT modify it.
  7. i know, but i cant afford anything right now. i will be getting a thermaltake toughpower 700watt(4x18A 12v rails), used from a friend(price is very good) in about 2 or 3 weeks. its a bit of overkill for my system, but its nice to have some spare power i just could not handle the old fan anymore, so i replaced it thanks for all the help guys
  8. Thanks for the replies guys. Yes i know how to discharge a power suply i would use a resistor to discharge the big caps, if i was about to remove the board. But i didnt anyway. I just opened the box, replaced the fan, blew the dust out, and close it back. The psu runs, as it was running before. The air coming from the exhaust is nice and cool(for a psu under heavy load), but the housing is kinda warm. I read that this is normal. To be fair, room temperature is about 34 to 35 degrees. @Quaker, the old one is capable of 97cfm, and the new one is capable of 58cfm(got those numbers from google) So, its ok to replace a psu fan with a lower current one?
  9. Hello. Yes i am aware how dangerous it is, to *** arround with psu's. I have an old Thermaltak TR2 550Watt Psu. It still runs like a dream, and i had no problems with it. Yesterday i decided to clean it for the first time, after so many years. I got the dust out, and i decided to replace the fan aswell(it was making some funny noises). I replaced it with a spare one i had laying arround, and it looks to be fine. But i have a question. The old fan was a 0.5A fan, and the ''new'' is only 0.21A. Is there going to be a problem? I didnt notice any kind of overheating, even on heavy loads edit: i also have a 0.3A fan laying arround. Should i use this one?
  10. Its not my 1st time opening a PSU box. I opened it and it looks fine. Nothing looks damaged. Maybe the damage is on the other side of the board. Cables are fine I actually checked the motherboard before i tested it. It looks fine. Capacitor are on a surprising good state(because its a pretty old mobo). The capacitors on the crapbox look fine. About the disclaimer now. 1st of all, i laughted so hard at that ending. Of course you are not responsible man. none here is. you just try to help. And i apreciate it
  11. @Darel Yeah thats what i heard. But i am still worried @DX my psu is this. yes i know its sooo old. Still better that a cheap 20$ firestarter. You guys think i should give it a try? i just want some opinions edit: @glitchmaster, yeah i thought of that too
  12. Hello there. A friend of my gave me an old motherboard(Asus M2N-E). He told me that he tested it, and it didnt work(even the fans where dead, he said) So i tried to make it post. I got a stick of ram, an old 8500GT and an Athlon 630 on and tried to make it post. Oh i forgot to say that i used an old noname 500watt psu. I used a screwdriver to power it on, and the fans where spinning. For a while(2-3 secs). Then everything stopped and i smelled something burning. No smoke or sounds. Just that awfull smell coming from the psu. So now the only PSU i have to use is the one i use in my main system(Thermaltake TR2 550Watt). Is there any posibility that the mobo fried the psu? I mean, its a pretty old noname crap, i expected it to happen soon(i used it only to test old parts) But still. He said that the fans didnt spin at all. So i am thinking if this mobo fried his psu, and then fried my psu. I want to make it post, but i am scared of frying my psu. And i cant afford a new one Is this possible? I didnt try to power on the old psu again. I guess i shouldnt
  13. Well i finally got a 5870 Vapor-X. It was pretty much the best i could get for my budget here in Greece(50Euros) Its not what i expected to be, but its a start. Next thing to do is a PCI-E Riser, and a carbon sticker And of course some cable managment. Its not great but its a start. I will post some pictures when done
  14. Well i may go for a used 6870. Atleast it will not be that underpowered Just one question. Is there any specific pci-e extender i need to use? Thanks again
  15. Well i guess you are right. Who cares about what everyone thinks. It will be something i made and like. Thank you. I guess i m gonna start in a few days
