I got an 850 Evo recently, and a SATA to USB adapter. I also got the lower end of the T580 ThinkPad and wanted to upgrade the 500GB HDD to a 1TB SSD.
So, I get a new 850 Evo, plug it in, and the system refuses to boot. OS is installed on a separate SSD in the WWAN slot, so I know it's not a lack of the SSD.
Symptoms include unable to boot the system, as in stuck on the preboot diagnostics screen if SSD is connected internally, trouble connecting the drive to the adapter, though I think it's more likely a bad plug on the SSD, as the HDD it replaces boots fine.
There is no warranty on the drive, so I tried opening it, thus probably voiding any warranty it could have had.
The curious thing is, if I plug and replug it in an external adapter, it eventually catches on and realises, thus allowing to access the contents of the drive.
So, I'm fairly certain that the connection points of the SSD are not 100%. But since I basically have no warranty on it, and that Samsung completely cannot find my S/N on their warranty page before I attempted the disassembly...
Are there any solutions you guys can suggest? Maybe if I send it in for repairs somehow somewhere? I don't have a good soldering kit so dead 850 Evos to replace the plug myself is out of the question.
If you guys can think of any other tests or scenarios I have not mentioned above, please ask, I'll try to respond ASAP to them.
