I have an i5-8400 and a GTX 1070 TI. I ordered a 1440p 144hz monitor on Amazon, and it will arrive next week. Do you have any suggestion on if I should set games to 1080p and take advantage of the 144hz, or 1440p and probably a lower frame rate? I doubt I can run games at 1440p 144hz. I mostly play single player games like The Witcher 3 and strategy games like Tropico 6.

I also have the option of throwing the drives into my main rig and making a FreeNAS VM. I have a i5-8400 with 16 gigs of ram. Which do you think would work better?

Would I be better off keeping this processor and buying a x79 motherboard or switching to a different platform?

I was given a LGA 2011 Xeon workstation, with 16 gigs of pc3-14900 server ram, but it’s looking like the motherboard is dead. Any suggestions on replacements? I would want something less than $150 or so. I am going to use it as a FreeNAS box.

Hi everyone, Thank you for the responses. Just to followup, I wanted to let you know that I installed 2 extra exhaust fans on the top of my machine to see if that would help. Unfortunately, it did not. I believe that the thermal paste hardened up in the GPU which is causing the temps. I've had the card for a little while now (I only paid $100 for it) and I have decided to upgrade to an EVGA GTX 1070 TI SC. Thank you all for your input. Warmest Regards

I've been thinking of upgrading to a 1070 ti, would the performance increase be worth it over a 970?

Hello, In my computer, I have a GTX 970. At idle, the temp is about 30C. While playing games, it can sometimes reach about 83C (Mostly during House Flipper). Is this anything to worry about? It is not overclocked, and I set my fan curve to to be 100% at 80C, but below that, to be 1:1 between temp and fan speed. Thank You.

Is the motherboard listed in this build good? I was recommended this one, and I like the fact that it has a debug LED, but the only thing worrying me is the NIC. DO any of you know anything about it? Also, what do you guys think about the rest of the build? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RgcHVn

I am going to be building a pc soon, and was wondering if GPU sag should be something I should be worried about. This is the GPU I'm going to be using. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127872&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

It might seem superficial, but I really like the aesthetics of this case. Do you have any recommendations of cases that are both easy to build in and have some unique character?

I have never built a pc before, but I am going to do one soon. I was wondering if the Corsair C70 would be a good case for a beginner to build in. Any tips would also be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I edited the list to include a 390x instead of a 970. Also, I change from 16 gigs of RAM to 8. What are your thoughts now? http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ngvandyke/saved/Rhnbt6
