  1. Hey all, Quite new to server building - got myself a cheap preowned rack which is the same as the following... ( http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?z=p&p=CHADNX1802 ) So its only 600x600mm and im not sure about the width of the rails and the like. Preowned enterprise servers like HP DL360's are pretty cheap but seem to be too long for this rack. Any ideas? P.S Im from New Zealand so anything local would be great! Many thanks Ayrton
  2. Hey all, So i've been thinking about buying a server to replace my Seagate business 4 bay NAS so i can get a better experience & also im interested in running a few VM's for various tasks but also a game server likely for myself and a couple friends. So im really looking to see how much i need to spend and if i need a xeon? im sure i could get away with a reasonable I5 or something but having a decent network card and a decent raid card would be nice, I live in New Zealand and was going to buy a second hand HP Rackmount such as this one due to seemingly good value for money compared to anything else around that price range. But do i really need something that big (racks take up quite a bit of space...) Well 600x600x980 is the size I was looking at. I've currently got a I7 3930k with 12gb of ram that im running a few VM's on as well as both a sickrage & couch potato bot which would be nice to move away from my main pc. Lastly how can you divvy up resources for folding? Seeing as if i end up getting the above rackmount how will i get it to use a specific amount of cpu/ram usage so it doesnt make too much noise. Thanks a lot Ayrton
  3. And this is accessed from the bootable usb (in my case) ?
  4. if thats the case, what does it get rid of?
  5. I was thinking the same... But i've only had the OS loaded for a couple weeks. (fresh install) Nah its a branded one, cant remember which but is WD or seagate i think 0_0 it had 16GB (when i bought it 8GB sticks were insanely expensive...) and i broke a slot on the mobo ;D Any other ideas? id rather not have to reset my PC again ... Im one of those guys who stuffs with things i shouldnt and have to reset due to compressing my main Hdd (have done that before) But nothing of the sort this time around.
  6. Hello, So here are my specs Current PC Specs: CPU: Intel I7 3930k 6 Core 3.2GHZ Ram: 12 GB ddr3 1600mhz Mobo:GIGABYTE GA-X79-UD3 LGA 2011 PSU: COOLER MASTER GX 750W ATX12V GPU: gtx 970 Strix SSD: Some IDEK 120gb OS: Windows 10 pro So my current resource usages are: CPU: 21% Memory: 68% Disk: 20% Network 61% So basically even with the above resource usages i get a fair amount of lag just switching from chrome to bluestacks or opening windows explorer can take 5-7 seconds. Baring in mind this pc was built 4 years ago with the addition of the 970 about 6 months ago. I do run quite a lot co-currently as ive got bittorrent, bluestacks, 16 chrome tabs, sickrage & steam. I can send you guys a process list if that helps? - System is using 1.3GB or ram funly enough Thanks
